BSA Troop 399 Visited Historical Sites In Philadelphia

On the weekend of April 1st, BSA Troop 399 visited historical sites in Philadelphia. The troop learned about the history of the United States by touring museums and sites of historical significance such as the National Constitution Center, the Independence National Historic Park, the Liberty Bell Center, and others. The youth led an historical walking tour that included the site of Ben Franklin’s Philadelphia home. Attendees had an opportunity to see the room where the Declaration of Independence and the

Constitution were signed by the founding fathers at Independence Hall and learn about these momentous events from a knowledgeable park ranger. The trip culminated in a hike through Valley Forge Historical National Park, George Washington’s Continental Army winter encampment, 1777-1778, where youth and parents went inside the dwellings of revolutionary soldiers, stood under the National Arch, and visited other notable sites.

Boy Scout Troop histor399 is a Boy Scout Troop based in North

Babylon, NY, and a member of the Sagtikos District of the Boy Scouts of America’s Suffolk County Council. Troop 399 is sponsored by the North Babylon Lions Club. Originally chartered in 1975, Troop 399 has offered scouting opportunities and taught boys to become leaders and serve their community for over 40 years. NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING, BUDGET VOTE AND ELECTION BABYLON UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF THE TOWN OF BABYLON, SUFFOLK COUNTY, NEW YORK

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that a public hearing of the qualified voters of the Babylon Union Free School District of the Town of Babylon, Suffolk County, New York will be held in the library of the Babylon Junior-Senior High School, 50 Railroad Avenue, Babylon, New York, in said District on Monday, May 8, 2023 at 7:30 p.m., prevailing time, for the transaction of business as authorized by the Education Law, including the following items:

(b) the cumulative amount expected to be received from recipients of each type of exemption as payments in lieu of taxes or other payments for municipal services; and

(c) the cumulative impact of all exemptions granted.  The exemption report shall be posted on any bulletin board maintained by the District for public notices and on any website maintained by the District.

AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that petitions nominating candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education shall be filed with the Clerk of said School District at her office, located at 50 Railroad Avenue, Babylon, New York, not later than April 17, 2023 between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., prevailing time. Vacancies on the Board of Education are not considered separate, specific offices; candidates run at large.

Nominating petitions shall not describe any specific vacancy upon the Board for which the candidate is nominated; must be directed to the Clerk of the District; must be signed by at least 25 qualified voters of the District (representing the greater of 25 qualified voters or 2% of the number of voters who voted in the previous annual election); must state the name and residence of each signer, and, must state the name and residence of the

IS HEREBY GIVEN, that applications for absentee ballots will be obtainable during school business hours from the District Clerk beginning April 3, 2023; completed applications may not be received by the District Clerk earlier than April 17, 2023, and must be received by the District Clerk at least seven (7) days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election, if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter, or to the agent named in the absentee ballot application. IS HEREBY GIVEN, that personal registration of voters is required either pursuant to §2014 of the Education Law or pursuant to Article 5 of the Election Law. The Charity of the Month for May is LI Music & Entertainment Hall of Fame

Neighbor Pets’ Place

The Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame is a 501(c) (3) organization dedicated to the idea that Long Island’s musical heritage is an important resource to be celebrated and preserved for future generations. The organization, which encompasses New York State’s Nassau, Su olk, Queens, and Kings (Brooklyn) Counties, was created as a place of community that inspires and explores Long Island music in all its forms. To date, the organization has inducted more than 100 musicians and music industry executives, and also o ers education programs and scholarships to Long Island students, sponsors the Long Island Sound Award, and features traveling educational exhibits, including a state-of-the-art mobile museum.

Last year, the organization opened its doors to their new awe-inspiring 8,800 Sq Ft facility in Stony Brook, NY, which features a large exhibition area, theater, performance area and an o cial “Hall of Fame Museum.”

All entry tickets include free parking and access to all their location has to o er. As a non-profit, your admission fee and donations help to support their Education Scholarship program for high school students and their Health and Harmony program, bringing musicians and entertainers to senior centers, hospitals and other places of need.

“For over a decade, the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame has been delighted to distribute tens of thousands of dollars for scholarships, providing support to numerous aspiring professional musicians and music teachers,” said Tom Needham, LIMEHOF Education Committee Chairman.

The Hall of Fame is now accepting applications for their 2023 Student Scholarship program, where they will award $500 scholarships to graduating students. These scholarships will provide funding for eligible graduating high school students from Nassau, Su olk, Brooklyn, Queens, or Kings (Brooklyn) Counties who have shown an interest in pursuing a career in music.

5:00 de la tarde, hora vigente, se debe tipear o escribir en imprenta en el idioma inglés, debe dirigirse a la secretaria del Distrito Escolar; debe estar firmado por al menos noventa y nueve (99) votantes cualificados del Distrito (99 representa el 10% del número de votantes en la elección anual anterior); y debe indicar el nombre de cada firmante. Runner Jasmine Parreno Lets Nothing Stand In Her Way

Jasmine Parreno was an avid runner, and it was a huge part of her day-to-day life. Unfortunately, this passion of hers came under fire when she was diagnosed with COVID-19 in 2021.

She battled a serious case of double pneumonia and both her lungs became severely damaged as a result. It was in those moments where she truly questioned if she would ever get the chance to run again. Persistent long haulers proceeded to present its symptoms with acute respiratory failure. Still, slowly but surely, she began to recooperate and has since recovered– despite some mild symptoms.

According to Jasmine, it was time for her to get back on her feet. She decided to challenge herself and hit the pavement once again. She ran her first 5K with OG Training Academy in Lindenhurst.

She hopes that her story would serve as a means to spread motivation and hope to those that are struggling with any illness, whether it be mentally or physically. “Do not let an illness, of any kind, convince you that something is impossible,” Jasmine said. “It doesn’t mean that it will be easy, but definitely worth trying!”

Currently, Jasmine has signed up for her first Sprint Triathalon with New York Triathalon at Rockaway Beach and will continue her running career, letting nothing stand in her way!
