Free Narcan Training

New York State Assemblyman Michael Durso, in partnership with Town of Babylon Councilman Terence McSweeney, Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey, Village of Babylon Mayor Mary Adams, and Suffolk County Sheriff Errol Toulon, will be holding a free Narcan Training on Thursday, May 4, 2023 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Babylon Village Hall - Board Room, 153 W Main Street, Babylon.

A trained specialist from the Suffolk County Sheriff’s office will discuss signs of an opiate overdose, overdose risk

factors, recognizing and responding to an overdose, and the administration of Naloxone (Narcan). Each registered participant will receive a free Narcan kit at the completion of the training.

“We encourage all community members to attend this free, lifesaving program,” said Assemblyman Durso.

“With record high overdose deaths occurring last year from Fentanyl and other opioids, it’s crucial that everyone

“We’ve seen in recent years that Narcan is the quickest way to restore normal breathing and save the life of a person who is overdosing on opioids,” said Babylon Town Councilman Terence McSweeney. “Narcan can be administered by anyone who is properly trained to do so, and with the recent rise in overdoses, it is imperative that we educate the public so we can all aid our first responders in saving lives,” he added.

The Charity of the Month for April is Rebuilding Together Long Island

Rebuilding Together

Long Island (RTLI) is a nonprofit organization, headquartered in Farmingdale, serving Nassau County and most of Su olk County. As an a liate of the national organization, Rebuilding Together, their mission is repairing homes, revitalizing communities and rebuilding lives.

To accomplish their vision of safe and healthy homes for everyone, they provide free essential home safety repairs and modifications for economicallydisadvantaged homeowners, whether they are older adults, veterans, families or persons with a disability or limited mobility.

Recent studies have shown that for people 65 and older, falls account for approximately 60 percent of all injury-related emergency department visits and over 50 percent of injuryrelated deaths annually. Also, up to 80 percent of falls in the home occur in the bathroom. RTLI can install grab bars and ADA height toilets, widens doorways where possible and can even have bathtubs converted to walk-in showers. Wheelchair ramps are one of their most requested modifications and can be constructed in two days. So how can you help?

Primarily a volunteer organization, they are neighbors helping neighbors and there is never a charge. From minor to sometimes major repairs, they improve the safety, health and well-being of every household. From handyman type repairs to modifications for our aging population and those with physical limitations, they’re ready to lend a hand.
