BABYLON UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF THE TOWN OF BABYLON, SUFFOLK COUNTY, NEW YORK
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that a public hearing of the qualified voters of the Babylon Union Free School District of the Town of Babylon, Suffolk County, New York will be held in the library of the Babylon Junior-Senior High School, 50 Railroad Avenue, Babylon, New York, in said District on Monday, May 13, 2024 at 7:30 p.m., prevailing time, for the transaction of business as authorized by the Education Law, including the following items:
1. To present to the voters a detailed statement (proposed budget) of the amount of money which will be required for the 2024-2025 fiscal year.

Said exemption report, which will also become part of the final budget, will show how much of the total assessed value on the final assessment roll used in the budgetary process is exempt from taxation, list every type of exemption granted, identified by statutory authority, and show: (a) the cumulative impact of each type of exemption expressed either as a dollar amount of assessed value or as a percentage of the total assessed value on the roll; (b) the cumulative amount expected to be received from recipients of each type of exemption as payments in lieu of taxes or other payments for municipal services; and (c) the cumulative impact of all exemptions granted. The exemption report shall be posted on any bulletin board maintained by the District for public notices and on any website maintained by the District.
AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that petitions nominating candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education shall be filed with the Clerk of said School District at her office, located at 50 Railroad Avenue, Babylon, New York, not later than April 22, 2024 between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., prevailing time. Vacancies on the Board of Education are not considered separate, specific offices; candidates run at large. Nominating petitions shall not describe any specific vacancy upon the Board for which the candidate is nominated; must be directed to the Clerk of the District; must be signed by at least 33 qualified voters of the District (representing the greater of 25 qualified voters or 2% of the number of voters who voted in the previous annual election); must state the name and residence of each signer, and, must state the name and residence of the candidate.

IS HEREBY GIVEN that applications for absentee and early mail ballots will be obtainable during school business hours at the office of the District Clerk beginning April 22, 2024. In accordance with Education Law §§ 2018a and 2018-e, completed absentee and early mail ballot applications may not be received by the District Clerk earlier than 30 days prior to the election, and must be received by the District Clerk at least seven (7) days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election, if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter or to the agent named in the absentee or early mail ballot application. Absentee and early mail ballots must be received by the District Clerk not later than 5:00 p.m., prevailing time, on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.
A list of persons to whom absentee ballots shall have been issued, and a list of all persons whom early mail voter’s ballots have been issued, will be available to qualified voters of the District for inspection in the Office of the District Clerk on and after Thursday, May 16, 2024 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on weekdays prior to the day set for the annual election and on May 21, 2024, the day set for the election. Any qualified voter may, upon examination of such list, file a written challenge of the qualifications as a voter of any person whose name appears on such list, stating the reasons for such challenge. Any such written challenge shall be transmitted by the District Clerk or a designee of the Board of Education to the inspectors of election on election day.

If a voter has heretofore registered pursuant to §2014 of the Education Law and has voted at an annual or special district meeting within the last four (4) calendar years, he or she is eligible to vote at this election; if a voter is registered and eligible to vote under Article 5 of the Election Law, he or she is also eligible to vote at this election. Registration will be conducted up to and including May 9, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on days when school is in session at the Office of the District Clerk, located at 50 Railroad Avenue, Babylon, New York. The register so prepared pursuant to §2014
of the Education Law will be filed in the Office of the Clerk of the School District, located at 50 Railroad Avenue, Babylon, New York, and will be open for inspection by any qualified voter of the District beginning on May 16, 2024, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., prevailing time, on weekdays, and each day prior to the day set for the election, except Sunday, and between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2024, and at the polling place(s) on the day of the vote.

ADEMÁS SE AVISA que las solicitudes de boletas de voto en ausencia y de votación anticipada por correo se podrán obtener durante el horario escolar en la oficina de la secretaria del Distrito a partir del 22 de abril de 2024. De acuerdo con la Ley de Educación, secciones 2018a y 2018-e, la Secretaria del Distrito no puede recibir las solicitudes completadas de boleta de voto en ausencia y de votación anticipada por correo más temprano que los 30 días antes de la elección, y deben ser recibidas por la secretaria del Distrito al menos siete (7) días antes de la elección si la boleta se va a enviar por correo al votante o el día antes de la elección, si la boleta debe entregarse personalmente al votante o al agente nombrado en la solicitud de boleta de voto en ausencia o de votación anticipada por correo. Dispite the blustery cool morning many attended and anxiously awaited as the festivities commenced at 10:00 a.m. when “Patty Cottontail” was accompanied by Mayor Mary Adams as they commenced the Easter Bunny Parade around Argyle Lake as some donned Easter Bonnets.
Patty Cottontail stopped to high-five a young bunny eared bystander.
All participated in the festivities, family and friends.

Afterward, Patty Cottontail took photos with the picturesque background of Argyle Lake with all that joined the parade. By this time, Patty Cottontail was hungry and needed a nap.

Environmental Scholarships Offered
The South Shore Audubon Society is offering two $1,000 scholarships for College juniors, seniors, or graduate students earning a degree in the areas of biological or environmental science. This includes wildlife management, forestry, animal behavior, ecology, marine biology, oceanography, mammalogy, ornithology or the field of sustainable and renewable energy. Previous winners have used their scholarships to help purchase books, to pay for travel expenses to field sites, for specialized equipment or other educational needs.
To be eligible for the Scholarships, applicants must be residents of one of the areas listed at www. ssaudubon.org/areas-weserve.asp and/or attend

Bayview Elementary School kicks off PARP with “Dr. Seuss.” PARP is a NYS PTA program and stands for Pick A Reading Partner. The PARP program is designed to promote the love of reading in children and encourages reading partners to read with their children for at least 15 minutes per day. Bayview’s PTA organized two weeks of PARP events for the students to enjoy. The students walked into “Bayviewville” as the school magically transformed into various Dr. Seuss books for PARPCat in The Hat, Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You?, The Grinch, The Lorax, Horton Hears a Who, ABC’s, One Fish Two Fish, Ten Apples Up on Top, Oh, The Places You’ll Go, Happy Birthday to You, Fox in Socks, and Green Eggs and Ham Students were invited back to school for a pajama night.
