America’s Boating Courses Being Offered To The Public

BRIANNA’S LAW has passed and is being implemented in five annual stages that began on January 1, 2020 – depending on the age of the boat captain. All power boat operators will be required to obtain a NASBLA approved Safe Boating Certificate by January, 2025, regardless of age. So, now is the time to sign up for a Safe Boating Course to fulfill this requirement and to keep you, your friends, and family, as well as other boaters safe on our great

waterways.

Don’t delay… get your certificate for the upcoming boating season! Offered by America’s Boating Club of the Great South Bay, you may register for one of these “America’s Boating Courses” on Saturday, April 15, 2023 from 9:30am to 12:30pm, April 22, 2023 from 9:30am to 12:30pm, and April 29, 2023 from 9:30am to 1:30pm. All classes will be held at the West Islip Library, 3 Higbie Lane, West Islip, NY 11795,

and is available for adults and youth who are at least a 7th Grade reading level.

The basic boating knowledge topics include:

Many Boat Insurance companies will offer discounts on boating insurance to boaters who

Upon completing the test at the end of the three session course, you will receive your NASBLA approved Laminated United States Power Squadrons America’s Boating Course Certificate, which is

recognized nationally and never expires.

Registration for the course is required in advance of the course and subject to availabilities. The cost of the America’s Boating Course is $30., payable in advance by credit card or Pay Pal. Fast forward to today, McSweeney is all things public safety. Last year he partnered with the American Red Cross to

offer free of charge to every home, sufficient coverage of smoke detectors for the entire home. The program was successful but not as much as he would have liked. This year, with what seems to be Covid-19 deep in the rearview mirror he said the program has been much more successful, keeping the American Red Cross busy and both partners in this program couldn’t be happier. “Day in and day out, it is the Town board’s mission to keep our residents safe. Smoke

detectors save lives by providing an early warning sign that something is wrong.
