BABYLON FIREFIGHTERS RECEIVE HIGH HONORS

The Babylon Fire Department was honored at this years Suffolk County REMSCO CPR awards for their heroic action on Easter Sunday in 2023. Babylon FD, was dispatched to a cardiac arrest patient. The patient was visiting the home of one of the Babylon Village volunteer firefighters when he suddenly went into cardiac arrest. High quality CPR was immediately started by firefighters Giuseppe Pergolotti and Richard Nixon, as well as Giuseppe’s wife April, who is a nurse. L to R: Councilman Terence McSweeney, 3rd Asst. Legislator Donnelly And County Office For The Aging Announce Babylon Winter Senior Advocate Schedule

Suffolk Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park) is pleased to inform Babylon residents about the local Suffolk County Office for the Aging Winter 2024 Senior Advocate Schedule. Senior advocates are County representatives who come out into the community and assist seniors with information gathering, completion of eligibility or recertification applications and referrals to appropriate community agencies.

“This is an excellent chance for senior citizens to get the assistance and information they need by connecting with the County’s senior advocates right in their own communities,” said Legislator Donnelly. “I

hope all those interested in the services that the Suffolk County Office for the Aging provides will take advantage of this opportunity.”

Senior Advocates will be visiting the following locations in the Town of Babylon:

• North Amityville Nutrition Center, 48-C Cedar Road, Amityville:

Wednesday, March 20, 10 am – 1 pm

• West Babylon Library, 211 Route 109, West

Babylon: Thursday, March 28, 10 am – 12 pm Advocates assist with the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP –formerly known as food stamps), Medicare Savings Program and Heating Emergency

Assistance Program (HEAP) applications. They also can provide information on Medicare, answer questions and make recommendations and referrals. For more information about available services or directions to any of these locations, please call the Suffolk County Office for the Aging at (631) 8538200.

Town Of Babylon Boosts Local Business Cybersecurity

Councilman Anthony Manetta Hosts Event To Assist Local Small Businesses And Not-For-Profit Organizations

Babylon Town Councilman and Small Business Committee Chair Anthony Manetta recently hosted an event to enhance the cybersecurity of local small businesses and notfor-profit organizations.

The Town of Babylon was joined by U.S. Congressman Andrew Garbarino, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney, President of LISTnet Paul Trapani and

Department of Homeland Security and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) cybersecurity advisor Stan Lyzak to convey this crucial information to protect the finances and information of local businesses and organizations and their customers.

“Cybersecurity is a pressing issue,” said Councilman Manetta. “Small businesses and not-

for-profit organizations— cornerstones of our community—are often left vulnerable to cyberattacks and can be irreparably damaged by them if they do not take the necessary steps ahead of time. Our event provided these local entities with valuable training, resources, tips and strategies to help them safeguard against cyber threats.”

The Town of Babylon’s

event bridged the cybersecurity gap small businesses and not-forprofits often experience due to a lack of resources and attention. Congressman Garbarino stressed to attendees the importance of cybersecurity, and District Attorney Tierney explained the legal system’s role in combating cybercrime. Paul Trapani and Stan Lyzak provided practical

knowledge and actionable steps for those in attendance to protect their businesses’ and organizations’ valuable data, finances and reputations from hackers.

“The victim pool is widening,” said Paul Trapani. “Initially, large businesses were targeted because they have deep pockets, but many of these hacking tools are now automated. Someone can run scripts

and find vulnerabilities and, unfortunately, target businesses of all sizes.”

The Town of Babylon’s cybersecurity event worked to combat these news cybercrime trends and provide small businesses and not-for-profit organizations with the resources, training and attention they require to continue thriving and serving the community.
