Town Receives County Grant For Shark Prevention Tools At Town Beaches

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino, Nassau County Legislator James Kennedy, Legislator Rose Walker, and Legislator Samantha Goetz, in partnership with County Executive Bruce Blakeman, announced today that the Town of Oyster Bay will receive a Community Revitalization Program Grant from Nassau County for shark prevention equipment at Town beaches. Through this grant, the Town will receive funds to purchase vital equipment such as water base drones, shark shields, and shark bands, as well as watercraft and watercraft prevention equipment to ensure the safety of beachgoers and all who enjoy the Town’s many waterways.

Supervisor Saladino stated, “The safety and protection of our residents is top priority as shark sightings continue to rise off our shores. We are grateful to Legislator Kennedy, Legislator Walker, Legislator Goetz, and County Executive Blakeman, as our exceptional beach staff will have the ability to utilize even more tools and equipment to safeguard beachgoers with

this grant.”

Legislator Kennedy added, “While it may be unnerving to hear about shark sightings, it’s important to understand that sharks are naturally found in waters off Long Island. Remember to stay safe and listen to the guidance of beach and lifeguard staff. We share our waters with some amazing sea life, and we must make sure we do so safely and appropriately.”

While shark sightings off the coast of Long

Island have increased in recent years, shark bites and attacks remain extremely rare. Officials emphasize that ongoing and enhanced monitoring, as well as beach safety protocols ensure the safety of swimmers while supporting marine life.

Legislator Walker said, “Keeping our beaches safe for families and visitors is a top priority, and this grant will provide the Town of Oyster Bay with additional resources to enhance public safety along our shoreline. This funding will help ensure that our beach personnel have the tools they need to respond quickly and effectively, giving residents and

visitors greater peace of mind as they enjoy our beautiful waterfront.”

Legislator Goetz added, “As shark sightings become more frequent in our waters, it is important that we continue investing in proactive safety measures that protect everyone who visits our beaches. This grant will provide the Town of Oyster Bay with advanced shark detection and prevention equipment, helping lifeguards and emergency personnel keep beachgoers safe while preserving access to the incredible natural resources that make our South Shore so special.”

Supervisor Saladino stated, “While his accomplishments on the ice are impressive, perhaps his greatest legacy is the countless young people whose lives he has positively influenced through his patience, encouragement and leadership. Buzz exemplifies selfless community service, integrity and an unwavering

passion for growing the game of hockey. His induction into the New York State Hockey Hall of Fame is richly deserved, and our entire Town shares in celebrating this extraordinary achievement.”

Buzz was inducted alongside fellow legendary players including Josh Bailey, Nick Fotiu, Teagan Ketchum, Andrea Kilbourne-Hill, Steve Janaszak, Don Maloney, and Shawn Weller.

Town Adds Projects To Online Permit System For Faster,

Easier Approvals

Save a trip to Town Hall! Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino, Councilman Lou Imbroto, and Town Clerk Rich LaMarca announced that the Town has added new projects residents can apply for through the online permit system which allows homeowners, businesses and contractors to fast-track the process of obtaining building permits. Through the online permit system, residents can apply for more than 20 types of fast-order building permits – all from the convenience of their home or office. The Building Division Portal, accessible via

the Town’s website, streamlines applications for projects like fences, generators, sprinkler systems, solar panels, and more – and now includes permits for residential pools, including aboveground or semi-inground pools without the addition of other structures (other than required fencing).

“The online permit system allows applicants to submit materials, track progress, schedule inspections, and receive updates – all without having to come to Town Hall,” said Supervisor Saladino. “Since the original rollout, we now accept

commercial solar, commercial plumbing, and residential pool permits. In addition, the online system now accepts elevator license affidavits and renewal payments. We will continue look toward adding new projects for added convenience to our residents, businesses and contractors.”

The online portal also provides step-by-step instructions, checklists, and a full list of eligible permits. Homeowners can create an account, while contractors can request activation online. For more details, visit oysterbaytown. com/buildingportal.

Michele was very honest, knowledgeable, and consistently gave us clear, trustworthy advice. Their knowledge of the market, the location, and the entire process was invaluable expertise, especially as a first time home buyer. Their network is vast and incredibly valuable for those moving to the area. We highly recommend them to anyone buying or selling.
