DJ is the Student Council president, a member of the school’s safety patrol, and a member of the school band. His teachers say Dominic takes risks, asks questions, is an amazing supporter of all students, and loves celebrating the successes of others. The club is proud to recognize Dominic for his accomplishments. The Terrific Kids program, established by Kiwanis International, promotes character development, self-esteem, and perseverance. Students are nominated by their principals and teachers for achieving a personal best goal. Street Dedication Recognizes Charlie Bunger Sr.’s Lasting Legacy

Family, friends, elected officials, and members of the local surfing community gathered to celebrate the dedication of Charlie Bunger Sr. Way, honoring a man whose passion for surfing helped shape both an industry and generations of Long Islanders.

Long before serving on the Babylon Town Board, Councilman Terence McSweeney was one of countless customers who grew up visiting Bunger Surf Shop.

“Before I was a Councilman, I was a customer,” McSweeney said. “Bunger Clothing has always been a family favorite, and like so many others, we’ve made countless trips there over the years. It was an incredible honor to celebrate Charlie Bunger Sr. and recognize everything he and his family have meant to our community.”

Charlie Bunger Sr. began shaping surfboards

in the basement of his home in 1961 at just 20 years old. What started as a small operation quickly evolved into one of the most respected names in surfing. From his first shop in Copiague to the iconic Bunger Surf Shop in Babylon Village, the Bunger family built not only a successful business but also an enduring legacy. Today, the shop proudly holds the distinction of being the oldest surf company store in North America to have never changed ownership or location.

Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer said Charlie Bunger’s story is a testament to the entrepreneurial spirit that has long defined the Town of Babylon.

“Charlie Bunger turned a passion into an institution that has become part of Babylon’s identity,” Schaffer said. “For more than six decades, the Bunger family has inspired generations of surfers, supported our local economy, and remained deeply committed to our community. This street dedication ensures Charlie’s legacy will continue to

inspire future generations.”

The street dedication was made possible through legislation sponsored by Assemblyman Michael Durso and Senator Alexis Weik.

“Charlie Bunger’s legacy extends far beyond surfing,” Durso said. “He represents the very best of Long Island—a hardworking entrepreneur, a community

leader, and a family man whose business has become a landmark. It was my privilege to help sponsor this legislation so that his remarkable contributions will be recognized for generations to come.”

Senator Monica Martinez also joined local officials, community members, and the Bunger family in celebrating the occasion.

The Town of Babylon congratulates the entire Bunger family on this welldeserved recognition and thanks them for more than six decades of dedication to the community. Their story serves as a lasting reminder that, with hard work, passion, and family, a dream can grow into a legacy that stands the test of time.

health; reduce stress and anxiety; build self-esteem and confidence; and evoke positive memories. Participating in programs with others also stimulates social interaction and connection Programs offered during August include: Art Appreciation Using the Arts and Minds Approach – This program gives seniors, individuals living with dementia, and caregivers, a place to enjoy and immerse themselves in art! Directed by a specially trained leader, the group gathers around to look at a selected work of art, contemplating and reflecting on how it inspires them. The educator leads the group in a conversation about the art, connecting everyone’s observations, ideas, and feelings. A hands-on artmaking activity where everyone explores materials and creative expression follows the discussion.

Shoreline Expressions - Use your creativity and create a unique piece of art using treasures from the seashore. Beach glass, seashells and driftwood combine to create seaside images and frame the beauty of the season.

Visual Poetry - Create poetry that combines words with images, colors, symbols, and typography to express ideas and emotions. Using cutout words and descriptive phrases, you will craft a visual poem that adds meaning through both language and design.

Open Art Studio - Explore painting, sculpture, collage, and more at your own pace. Allow your creativity to bloom with guidance and instruction from therapeutic specialists.

Visual Poetry – Message in a Bottle – Create a visual poem using words, images, colors, and symbols. Choose from pre-printed text or write your own to create a meaningful keepsake while engaging creativity, memory, and attention. All programs are open to seniors of all skill levels. No prior experience is needed.

The Lindenhurst Soccer Club marked the conclusion of another successful season with its annual end-of-season picnic and a heartfelt field rededication ceremony at Shore Road Park, bringing together players, families, coaches, alumni, and community leaders to celebrate the organization’s longstanding impact on the community.

A highlight of the day was the rededication of the John A. Kennedy Memorial Soccer Field, honoring the legacy of John A. “Sean” Kennedy, widely recognized as a founding father of Lindenhurst Soccer. Kennedy’s dedication and commitment helped establish a program that has positively influenced generations of young athletes and families throughout the community.

The event also recognized the achievements of the next generation of Lindenhurst soccer players. Several graduating seniors were awarded scholarships for their accomplishments both on and off the field, while intramural players received trophies in recognition of their hard work, sportsmanship, and dedication throughout the season.

Councilman Terence McSweeney attended the celebration and praised the organization for its decades of service to local youth.

“For nearly 55 years, the Lindenhurst Soccer Club has provided young people with opportunities to learn teamwork, discipline, and leadership while creating lifelong friendships,” said

Councilman McSweeney. “The rededication of the John A. Kennedy Memorial Soccer Field serves as a powerful reminder of the volunteers and community leaders whose commitment helped build this outstanding organization. Congratulations to all of this year’s scholarship recipients, players, coaches, and families on another tremendous season.”

Town officials expressed their gratitude to the Lindenhurst Soccer Club for its continued dedication to youth athletics and community engagement, noting that the organization remains an important part of the fabric of Lindenhurst and the Town of Babylon.

Lindenhurst Partners To Restore Historic WWI Gatling Gun Fundraising

To Support The Restoration Is Now Underway With Bricks And Minifigs Donors Will Receive A Lego Kit To Build Their Own Gatling Gun Replica

The Inc. Village of Lindenhurst and the Lindenhurst Historical Society are pleased to announce their ongoing effort to preserve and protect all things Lindenhurst with the restoration of a well-recognized and iconic community historic object –our WWI Gatling Gungifted in 1921 to Lindenhurst by the War Department.

In 1922, the monument containing the Gatling Gun was completed, standing at the intersection of South Wellwood Avenue and Montauk Highway – marking the southern “gateway” into Lindenhurst and its downtown ever since.   The Gatling Gun was part of a larger volunteer community project conceived in 1919 and dedicated to recognizing Lindenhurst WWI servicemen.  The Gatling Gun’s complementary Monument Plaza, featuring a 7’ granite obelisk topped with an eagle and bearing a bronze plaque inscribed with the Honor Roll – the names of 101 servicemen and 4 Merchant Marines is located at Monument Plaza in the center of Lindenhurst’s downtown, South Wellwood and Hoffman Avenues.

A restoration plan has been developed and will include much-needed rust remediation, metal reconditioning, and repainting to depict the Gatling Gun’s original paint color accurately.  Discussion continues with a Pennsylvania wheelwright to provide period-appropriate wooden wheels that will replicate the carriage’s original wheels. A fundraising campaign to support the restoration has partnered the committee with Bricks and Minifigs - West Babylon.  Bricks and Minifigs’ creative Brick Specialists have designed a Lego model of the Gatling Gun that was on display during the Village’s

Liberty Day festivities. Donors who contribute $100.00 to the restoration effort will receive their own kit to build a smaller Lego replica of the Gatling Gun.  For more information on how to donate or participate, please email info@villageoflindenhurstny. gov or Lindenhursthistoricalsociety@gmail.com.
