That’s why I’ve called this column Kerry’s Compass. A Compass doesn’t tell us how fast to travel or what challenges lie ahead, It simply points us toward true north. It’s been many years since I last put my thoughts on paper. Somewhere between marriage, raising children, work, friendships, family gatherings and keeping up with the beautiful chaos of everyday life, writing quietly found its place on the back burner. Not forgotten, just patiently waiting. Now, as life begins to slow down in the best possible way, it feels like the perfect time to begin writing again. So welcome to Kerry’s Compass. If you know me, you probably know there’s no better place to start than The End - Montauk. There’s a certain magic that begins the moment you cross into town. The air feels different. It’s as if the Atlantic has a way of reminding you to breathe a little deeper. Montauk has changed over the years. It’s no secret that influencers, luxury hotels, and social media have transformed this once-quiet fishing village into one of the East Coast’s trendiest destinations. Prices have climbed right alongside its popularity, and yes, a weekend in peak summer can leave your wallet noticeably lighter.

But here’s the secret seasoned Montauk lovers already know: you can still experience its charm without spending a fortune. Visit midweek, come after Labor Day when the crowds thin, or sneak away during the shoulder season. Registration For Fall And Winter Youth Ice Hockey Program Oyster Bay Town Councilman Lou Imbroto announced that registration for the Town’s Fall and Winter Youth Ice Hockey Program will begin soon for boys and girls ages 8U16U. This program includes a training camp, full house league game schedule, and playoffs. Children’s Snapper Derby Returning To Oyster Bay September 20th Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Town Clerk Rich LaMarca invite residents to attend the Town’s 4th Annual Children’s Snapper Derby to be featured at the famed Bluefish Tournament on Sunday, September 20th, at Theodore Roosevelt Park in Oyster Bay. “This fun family event is open to youngsters ages 14 and under with fun prizes and awards for winners, as well as giveaways for all participants,” said Supervisor Saladino. “This fun event provides a great opportunity to introduce children to the wonderful recreational sport of fishing.” The Snapper Derby will take place between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., during the Town’s Bluefish Tournament, at Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park by the fishing pier. There is a $15 registration entry fee. Participants are invited to bring

their own equipment, including poles and bait, as supplies are limited. Children will be placed into two age groups, ages 7 and under, and 8-14. Winners will be based on number of snappers caught - catch and release only - with awards and prizes being given out for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for each age group. Family fun activities will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. “We are thrilled to bring this fun event to Theodore Roosevelt Park and invite all children who enjoy fishing to sign up and participate,” said Clerk LaMarca. “There will be free refreshments, shirts and raffles for all participants, as well as awards and prizes for top winners.” Registrater now online at www. oysterbaytown.com/ sports. Long Island Children’s Museum is giving young builders a place to dream big with the opening of Dig Zone, an interactive construction-themed exhibit where children can scoop, shovel, haul and explore through hands-on play. As the second new permanent exhibit to open at LICM this year, Dig Zone represents the Museum’s continued investment in creating fresh, engaging experiences that inspire curiosity, creativity and learning for Long Island families. Designed for children of all ages, Dig Zone transforms a simple pile of sand into an exciting construction site. Visitors can dig with real tools, load sand into construction vehicles, operate a hand-cranked conveyor belt, and work together to move materials across the job site.
