ID badges and will always present them upon request.
Residents should never allow anyone claiming to be a Town worker into their home without first verifying their identity. If there is any doubt, residents can call 311 to confirm whether an individual is a legitimate Town employee.
“We take the safety of our residents very seriously,” said Supervisor Rich Schaffer. “No one should feel pressured to let a stranger into their home. If you have any concerns, ask for ID and call 311— we are happy to verify any Town employee’s credentials.”
The Town urges residents to take the following precautions:
• Ask to see ID –All official Town
employees will carry Town-issued identification.
• Verify legitimacy –Call 311 to confirm if someone is a Town employee.
• Report suspicious activity – If someone refuses to show ID or seems suspicious, do not let them in and call local law enforcement immediately.
This warning follows a recent incident in which a West Babylon resident was scammed and burglarized by individuals falsely claiming to be Town workers. The Town of Babylon encourages residents to stay informed and share this message with friends and neighbors.
Suffolk County Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park) honored Margaret “Peigi” Fabian of North Babylon as his Irish American of Distinction for 2025 and presented her with a special proclamation during the Irish American Heritage Celebration held at the H. Lee Dennison Building in Hauppauge on March 26.
A lifelong Long Island resident, Ms. Fabian is recognized for her outstanding contributions to both the Irish-American community and the broader Suffolk County community through her unwavering dedication to sacred music and the preservation of Irish language and culture. A graduate of CW Post/ Long Island University’s music school, she has used her talents to enrich the spiritual and cultural lives of many.
Ms. Fabian serves as a lunchtime cantor at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City and is the head cantor, lead soprano, and assistant to the director at St. Agnes Cathedral in the Diocese of Rockville Centre. She also works as parttime music director at St. John’s Catholic Church in Bohemia, and many have enjoyed her performances during televised Masses on the Catholic Faith Network.
In addition, she is a past president of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) Division 2 St. Patrick in Babylon, where she continues to teach the Irish language and promote Irish heritage.
“Peigi Fabian embodies the heart and soul of Irish-American Heritage
Month through her deep devotion to faith, culture, and community,” said Legislator Donnelly. “Her work as a musician and educator has touched countless lives, and I am proud to recognize her as my 2025 Irish American of Distinction.”
Resolution 1046-19 designated March as “Irish American Heritage Month” in Suffolk County.
Held in conjunction with this legislation, the Irish American of Distinction program recognizes outstanding leaders from the community to highlight the enormous contributions Irish Americans have made to our county. All 18 honorees, one from each legislative district, were recognized at the March 26 ceremony.
