Lindenhurst High School Students Lend

The Lindenhurst High School Key Club has been making a meaningful impact through community service, raising funds and lending a helping hand to Habitat for Humanity. Earlier this year, the club hosted a successful dunk tank fundraiser to support the organization and contribute to a home build.

On Wednesday, March 5, club members traveled to Riverhead, where they spent the day painting and preparing the yard with topsoil. Despite the hard work, students found the experience rewarding, knowing their efforts would help create a future home for a family in need.

The Lindenhurst High School Key Club remains committed to service and looks forward to future opportunities to give back to the community.

Longtime Village Employee Retires

The Village of Lindenhurst would like to congratulate Gay Bodenschatz, a committed public servant, on her retirement after 25 years of exceptional service to the community.

Gay Bodenschatz quickly became a valued member

of the team at Village Hall through her hard work and commitment to her role as Purchasing Agent. Beyond her role at Village Hall, Gay and her family hold a special place in Lindenhurst history as the former owners of Linden Brewery. We thank Gay for

all she has given to Village Hall through her work and for what her family has done to shape the Village of Lindenhurst.

Mayor Lavorata expressed gratitude for Bodenschatz’s many years of service, “Gay has been a true cornerstone of our village. While we will

certainly miss her, we wish her all the best in her welldeserved retirement!”

Town Of Babylon Warns Residents About Scammers Posing As Town Employees

The Town of Babylon is reminding residents to be vigilant after reports of scammers posing as town employees to gain access to homes. All official Town of Babylon employees carry government-issued ID badges and will always present them upon request. Residents should never allow anyone claiming to be a Town worker into their home without first verifying their identity. If there is any doubt, residents can call 311 to confirm whether an individual is a legitimate Town employee.

• Verify legitimacy –Call 311 to confirm if someone is a Town employee.

• Report suspicious activity – If someone refuses to show ID or seems suspicious, do not let them in and call local law enforcement immediately. This warning follows a recent incident in which a West Babylon resident was scammed and burglarized by individuals falsely claiming to be Town workers. Recipe Of The Week: Perfect Matzah Balls (Kneidlach)

Passoveris a Jewish celebration and one of the religion’s most sacred and widely observed holidays. Passover commemorates the Biblical story of the Israelites’ escape from 400 years of slavery in Egypt. In 2025, Passover takes place at sundown on Saturday, April 12 to Sunday, April 20, 2025. Pesach, as Passover is known in Hebrew, includes all kinds of ceremonial foods. The Passover seder plate showcases specific items that relate to both the suffering and emancipation of the Jewish people. Throughout Passover, the faithful abstain from any leavened bread products. According to Exodus 12:8: “They shall eat the flesh that night, roasted on the fire; with unleavened bread and bitter herbs they shall eat.” Jews also are to remove all leaven (hametz) from their homes and eat unleavened bread for an additional seven days. Apart from being commanded by God, it is believed unleavened bread became traditional Passover food because the Jewish people departed Egypt in haste without time to let bread rise. Furthermore, some say God also associated leavened bread with sin. If there is one ingredient Passover celebrants may find challenging to work with during the holiday, it could be unleavened bread. Typically matzoh/matzah is substituted for other yeasted breads this time of year. One place matzoh really shines, though, is in matzoh balls for use in soups or side dishes. A dumpling of sorts, matzoh balls are tasty and filling, and ideal for meals throughout Passover. Try this recipe for “Perfect Matzah Balls (Kneidlach)” courtesy of Chabad.org’s Kosher Cooking.

Yields 4 balls per each 1⁄4 cup of matzah meal (Meat, Pareve)

2 eggs, slightly beaten

2 tablespoons oil or chicken fat

Directions:

2 tablespoons soup stock or water

1⁄2 cup matzah meal

1 teaspoon salt

1 quart of salted water or chicken soup, for cooking

Beat eggs slightly with fork. Add other ingredients, except matzah meal, and mix. Add matzah meal gradually until thick. Stir. Refrigerate for 20 minutes in covered bowl.

Wet hands and form into balls. Drop into bubbling chicken soup or into a large wide pot into which 1 quart of water seasoned with 1 tablespoon salt has been added and has come to a boil. Cook for 30 minutes.

Fourth Annual Lindenhurst St. Patrick’s Parade

The sun was shining bright, and the Irish-eyes of Lindenhurst were smiling even brighter at the Fourth Annual Lindenhurst St. Patrick’s Parade! The 2025 Parade took place on Saturday, March 29th, at 12:00 PM, and was led by Grand Marshals Joseph & Marguerite Danaher.

The Danahers, long-time Lindenhurst residents and local business owners, have been fierce supporters of the Parade since its inception, with Joe marching every year as a proud member of the Amityville American Legion Pipe Band, and Meg’s WealthWave Financial Group’s (formerly Danaher Wealth Management) generous annual Parade Sponsorship. Joe & Meg embody faith, service, and commitment to their family, the Lindenhurst community, and their Irish heritage, making them the perfect choice as the 2025 Parade Grand Marshals. The Danahers chose the Sisters of St. Dominic of Amityville & the First Responders Children’s Foundation as the recipients of the 2025 Parade’s charitable donation.

Thanks to the support of sponsors, such as Belfast Gastropub, Lindenhurst Chamber of Commerce, OLPH Knights of

Columbus Council #794, Suffolk County Department of Economic Development and Planning, Village of Lindenhurst, WealthWave Financial Group, and East Neck Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, among many others, the Fourth Annual Lindenhurst St. Patrick’s Parade saw hundreds of Irish pipers, drummers, dancers, local firefighters, scouting troops, fraternal groups, community organizations, businesses, and elected officials march down Wellwood Avenue, through the beautiful, historic Lindenhurst Downtown Business District.

The Parade festivities also took a pause to honor the memory of NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller, who was killed in the line of duty last year. The Nassau County Police Department Pipes and Drums played a beautiful, moving rendition of “Amazing Grace”, and all stopped for a moment of silence in respect for Officer Diller and his family.
