Town Of Babylon Celebrates Major Renovation To Emergency Communications Hub Ahead Of National Public Safety Telecommunications Week

On Monday, April 14, 2025, the Town of Babylon held a press conference to announce the completion of a major renovation to the Babylon Central Fire and Rescue Alarm Corporation’s dispatch facility, located in the basement of Town Hall. The announcement coincided with the start of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, recognizing the vital contributions of emergency dispatchers and telecommunications personnel.

The event celebrated the essential role of our emergency dispatchers and featured remarks from Town leaders, including Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Councilman Terence McSweeney, and Town Historian Mary Cascone.

NEDP, is a competency based program for students who are unable to attend classes or who prefer to work at home. Successful

Recipe Of The Week: Pasta Primavera

Warmweather, blue skies and time spent outdoors are hallmarks of spring. Springtime is a season of rebirth and renewal. That’s evidenced by budding trees and the return of frolicking animals. Spring also can be a time to refresh meal-making. Now is the time to trade in those hearty, filling dishes that are perfect for cold winter nights for lighter fare. Recipes like “Pasta Primavera” from “Seasoned America” (William Morrow and Company, Inc.) by Chef Paul Prudhomme can be brought out in spring and enjoyed throughout the warmer seasons. In Italian, “primavera” means “spring,” making this classic, vegetable-infused pasta dish a favorite this time of year. The vegetable inclusions below can be switched out for your own favorite produce as well.

Makes about 8 cups

Seasoning Mix:

2 1/2 teaspoon dried sweet basil leaves

1 1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon dried thyme leaves

3/4 teaspoon white pepper

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

2 teaspoon olive oil

1 cup thin strips prosciutto

Directions:

2 cups cauliﬂower ﬂorets

2 cups sliced fresh mushrooms

1/2 cup sliced carrots (cut on the diagonal)

2 cups sliced zucchini

6 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 teaspoon minced fresh garlic

1 cup asparagus tips or 3/4 cups snow peas

1 cup chopped green onions

2 cups heavy cream

9 ounces of your favorite pasta

Combine the seasoning mix ingredients thoroughly in a small bowl.

Heat olive oil in a 12-inch skillet over high heat. When oil is very hot, add the prosciutto, cauliﬂower, mushrooms, carrots, and zucchini. Add the butter and, as it melts, stir in the garlic and the seasoning mix. Stir in asparagus tips or snow peas and green onions. Stir well and cook just until the vegetables are crisp-tender, about 4 to 5 minutes. Stir in the cream and bring to a boil. Lower the heat to medium and cook until the sauce has thickened a bit, about 3 minutes.

Cook the pasta according to package directions; drain. Add the cooked pasta to the skillet, toss well and remove from the heat. Serve immediately.

North Babylon’s Celebration Represents Cultural Diversity

North Babylon High School hosted its third annual Multicultural Night on April 9 in the school’s cafeteria. The evening was a representation of the school district and community’s diversity. Different cultures

were on display as students showed off traditional attire, presented food tasting and spoke to guests about the history of their country. Some of the countries represented included Greece, Italy, Ireland,

Peru, Pakistan, Haiti, El Salvador, Mexico, Colombia, Austria and more. The community event involved high school students and staff and included help from the Foreign Language Honor Society.

Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park) is proud to announce that nominations are now open for the 5th Annual Suffolk County Youth Week Awards, part of the weeklong celebration of young people being held from May 11 through May 17, 2025.

This year’s Youth Week theme is “Overcoming Adversity.” Accordingly, Legislator Donnelly

is asking community members to nominate outstanding youths from the 17th Legislative District who have demonstrated remarkable perseverance by overcoming adversity. Each Suffolk County Legislator will select one young person from their district to honor at the Youth Week Awards Ceremony, which will take place on Monday, May 12 at 6 p.m. at the H. Lee Dennison

Building in Hauppauge. In addition to the awards, youth throughout the county are encouraged to

participate in this year’s Youth Week community service project: Your Perfect Prom. Donations of veryloved and gently-used formal attire that is appropriate for proms are desired, with a special need for dressy shoes, costume jewelry, handbags, and other prom accessories. Legislator Donnelly’s District Office, located at 590 Nicolls Road, Deer Park, will serve as a drop-

off location for the drive and is acceptiong donations through April 30, Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 am and 4 pm. Any youth who collects items and brings them to the office will receive community service hours from Legislator Donnelly.

“Now in its fifth year, Youth Week was created through legislative resolution and is a wonderful

opportunity to spotlight the accomplishments, resilience, and community spirit of young people across Suffolk County, and also to engage them in community service,” said Legislator Donnelly. “I know we have so many students who are deserving of getting their moment in the spotlight and I look forward to seeing all of the nominations!”
