Suffolk Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park) is pleased to inform Babylon and Huntington residents about the local Suffolk County Office for the Aging Fall 2023 Senior Advocate Schedule. Senior advocates are County representatives who come out into the community and assist seniors with information gathering, completion of eligibility or recertification applications and referrals to appropriate community agencies.

“This is an excellent chance for senior citizens to get the assistance and information they need by connecting with the County’s senior advocates right in their own communities,” said Legislator Donnelly. “I hope all those interested in the services that the Suffolk County Office for the Aging provides will take advantage of this opportunity.”

Park Avenue Memorial Elementary School in Amityville held its annual career fair from Nov. 2-3.

Coordinated by guidance counselor Kim Balducci, the school’s career fair aims to expose students to different careers while developing the school to work connection.

Held in the school’s auditorium, students in each grade went around

to their careers of choice to interview the guest speakers about their professions.

On Sunday, November 12, 2023, a coalition of Jr. Fire departments gathered for the 1st ever Town of Babylon Jr. Fire dept. drill exercise that focused on auto extrication using the “Jaws of Life” and other life-saving 1st responder equipment.

Cirino Sesto, advisor for the North Lindenhurst Jr. Fire Company spearheaded

this drill as a dream of his to get the kids from the various Town of Babylon Jr. Fire dept.’s together. Mr. Sesto said, “ It’s been an ongoing project of mine to get more recognition for the volunteer fire service, specifically the junior firefighter program. And through the help of all the advisors and all the fire departments within the

Town of Babylon, we finally, after years of work and planning, were finally able to get it all together and hold our first ever Town of Babylon Junior firefighter drill.”

Councilman Terence McSweeney who is also a member of the FDNY and a volunteer with the North Babylon Fire Company, partnered with Sesto on

this vision. McSweeney said, “This was all possible because of the vision of Cirino Sesto. He had a vision and made it come to life here today.” McSweeney said the driving force behind this drill is to engage the kids and provide a handson approach for them in hopes they decide to join the department when they turn of age.

McSweeney added, “I can’t thank Mr. Sesto and all of the instructors enough for giving up their Sunday to work with these kids.” Adding, “This was a tremendous opportunity to handle life-saving tools and operate them allowing the young Jr. Firefighters to fully engage, and comprehend their purpose.

Park Avenue Memorial Elementary School Holds Writing Celebration On Nov. 17, fourth graders at Park Avenue Memorial Elementary School in Amityville held a writing celebration.

Students visited different classrooms that were

transformed into writing galleries and read personal narratives created by their peers. Fourth graders also shared their thoughts about each story through peer reviews.

Lastly, students enjoyed a variety of tasty desserts to conclude the celebration.
