Final Summer Food Collection Drive Friday, Sept. 15, At Stop & Shop, 575 West Montauk Highway, West Babylon

On Friday, Sept. 15, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., PSEG Long Island’s Power to Feed Long Island summer food collection drive comes to West Babylon.

Food collection bins and a drive-through option will be set up at the Stop & Shop supermarket at 575 West Montauk Highway, West Babylon, where members of the public can donate nonperishable items and household essentials for neighbors facing food insecurity. PSEG Long Island is giving out reusable shopping bags and LED

lightbulbs as a thank you.

With your help and the generous donations of fellow Long Islanders, the initiative aims to collect the equivalent of 50,000 meals during July, August and September. Last year, thanks to your kindness, the equivalent of more than 42,000 meals was collected for the Power to Feed Long Island initiative.

Hundreds of thousands of Long Island families struggle with hunger and food insecurity throughout the year. During the summer months, there

is a significant reduction in food donations to local food banks, pantries and programs. Compounding the issue, children are not in school where they can receive free and reducedcost breakfast and lunch. In addition, the pandemic and the increased inflation rate have further strained local food pantries and emergency feeding programs served by Island Harvest.

Please consider donating some of the healthy foods you feed your own family, pet food or personal care

items, including:

Nonperishable food (no glass jars, please): Healthy varieties of canned foods, such as low-sodium beans, vegetables, soups, pasta sauces and tomato varieties, tuna and chicken, along with rice, pasta, popcorn kernels, nut butters, olive and canola oil, spices and pet food.

Household essentials: Toilet paper, paper towels, hand sanitizer, laundry detergent and dish soap.

God’s Way Foundation’s “Back-To-School Celebration II”

God’s Way Foundation Is Donating 1000 Free Backpacks To New York City & Long Island Children In Celebration Of In-School Learning!

This year’s ‘Backto-School Giveaway Celebration’ is scheduled to take place on August 12th, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be hosted in front of Freeport Retro Fitness at 131 West. Sunrise Highway Freeport,

Come join God’s Way Foundation’s “Back-ToSchool Celebration II” as they come together to make a difference in the lives of low-income children. They will be donating 1000 FREE High-

End backpacks filled with essential school supplies, ensuring that every child has the tools they need to succeed academically. Not only will the kids receive high-quality backpacks, but they will also be treated to an array of exciting activities.

A Mobile Video Game Truck will be on-site, providing an immersive gaming experience that will captivate the young ones and let their imaginations run wild. And what’s a celebration without beloved Disney Princesses and Superheroes; courtesy of the “New York Avengers”?

This event is not just about celebrating the start of a new school year but also about fostering a sense of community and

support for families in need. By coming together, a profound impact can be made on the lives of these children, encouraging them to reach their full potential. Furthermore, to encourage literacy and summer reading, books are included, one book, graciously donated by “The Book Fairies” of Freeport, inside of each of the 1000 backpacks they will be donating!

The foundation donates backpacks which the children will both identify with and carry with them for multiple years, to ease the financial strain on parents. Parents will receive swag bags with a packet of information containing free resources directing them to service centers where they may receive aid from locations

such as food pantries, emergency housing, local churches, and more. At God’s Way Foundation, they believe that durable supplies are a key component of ‘student preparedness.’ Children growing up in low-income households often lack the quality items necessary for proper schooling due to their parents ’ financial hardships. Their mission is to give the children a stress-free day of cost-free fun.

Local Summer Senior Advocate Schedule

Suffolk Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park) is pleased to inform Babylon and Huntington residents about the local Suffolk County Office for the Aging Summer 2023 Senior Advocate Schedule. Senior advocates are County representatives who come out into the community and assist seniors with information gathering, completion of eligibility or recertification applications and referrals to appropriate community agencies.

“This is an excellent chance for senior citizens to get the assistance and information they need by connecting with the County’s senior advocates right in their own communities,” said Legislator Donnelly. “I hope all those interested in the services that the Suffolk County Office for the Aging provides will take advantage of this

opportunity.”
