Interact Club Unveils Peace Pole At Amityville Memorial High School

On June 3, the Interact Club at Amityville Memorial High School unveiled their Peace Pole at the school’s front lawn. District administrators and the Amityville Rotary Club joined students in the dedication ceremony. A Peace Pole is an internationally-recognized symbol of the hopes and dreams of the entire human family, standing vigil in silent prayer for peace on earth. The high school’s Peace Pole bears the message, “May Peace

Prevail on Earth,” in eight different languages on each of its four sides to recognize the diversity in the school community. There are more than

250,000 Peace Poles in the world dedicated as monuments to peace.

The Interact Club raised funds for the Peace Pole during the holiday season. The pole now serves as a place for the school community to come together as one and recognize that Amityville stands for peace.

Amityville Farmer’s Market Grand Opening

While the Amityville Farmer’s Market has successfully operated in the Village for over a decade, a new location was chosen for this year. After participating in the FUMC Craft Fair last year, the market manager decided to relocate from the 9/11 Park to the Great Lawn at 25 Broadway, next to First United Methodist Church, just north of Merrick Rd. Opening day is Saturday, June 15, continuing every Saturday until October 26. Cheese Is The Focus Of Classic Comfort Dish

Much like bacon, cheese makes many meals more flavorful. When cheese is the centerpiece of a dish, cheese lovers know it will be tasty and potentially even a little addictive. Such is the case with macaroni and cheese. Many people have a go-to mac and cheese recipe in their culinary repertoire that they pull out anytime they desire some cheesy goodness. For those looking for a new mac and cheese recipe, “Crusty Mac and Cheese” from “Virgil’s Barbecue Road Trip Cookbook” (St. Martin’s Press) by Neal Corman is comfort food at its finest. This version has a little spiciness for an added flavor kick.

Crusty Mac and Cheese

Serves 4-6

1 pound elbow macaroni

1⁄2 teaspoon kosher salt

1⁄8 teaspoon ground white pepper

1⁄2 cup chicken stock

3⁄4 cup heavy cream

1⁄2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1⁄2 tablespoon hot sauce

1⁄2 tablespoon Creole mustard

11⁄4 cup Cheese Wiz®

8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

Directions:

1. Preheat the oven to 350 F. Grease a 2-quart baking dish.

2. Boil the macaroni in a 2-quart saucepan filled the water, until it is al dente, or still has some snap when you bite it. Strain the pasta and rinse thoroughly with cold water. Set aside.

3. Combine the remaining ingredients, except for the shredded cheese, in a medium saucepan over medium heat. The mixture should be barely simmering. Whisk periodically. Cook for 7 to 10 minutes.

4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cheese sauce with the pasta and about one-third of the shredded cheese. Transfer to the baking dish, covering with the remaining shredded cheese, and bake covered for 10 minutes.

5. Uncover and bake for 15 minutes more, or until the top is golden brown.

Legislator Donnelly And County Office For The Aging Announce Babylon And Huntington Spring Senior Advocate Schedule

Suffolk Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park) is pleased to inform Babylon and Huntington residents about the local Suffolk County Office for the Aging Spring 2024 Senior Advocate Schedule. Senior advocates are County representatives who come out into the community and assist seniors with information gathering, completion of eligibility or recertification applications and referrals to appropriate community agencies.

“This is an excellent chance for senior citizens to get the assistance and information they need by connecting with the County’s senior advocates right in their

own communities,” said Legislator Donnelly. “I hope all those interested in the services that the Suffolk County Office for the Aging provides will take advantage of this opportunity.”
