don’t take what I have for granted,” Noelle said. “There is a real issue in today’s society.

We tend to not think about what we don’t live around or what we don’t see often. There are so many people suffering around the world and we need to help them.”

There is a water crisis affecting women, children, families and farmers. Every day in rural communities throughout subSaharan Africa, there are millions of people that suffer from a lack of access to clean, safe water. Women and girls there are spending so much time fetching dirty water, which leads to illness and disease.

Globally, 1 in 9 people still have no access to clean water, however, in the communities The Water Project serves, it’s 9 out of 9.

“So many of us are fortunate enough that throughout this pandemic we not only

knew that we should wash our hands often, but we had clean water to do so. That is not reality for everyone.

God has given me so many ways that I can help others! I want to make a change...I feel called to make a change.

I’m excited to see if I can reach my fundraising goal and see where God leads me next. To anyone who will donate to my fundraiser, I thank you so much. It truly means a lot to me to have your support.”

Noelle Stanuch is a Smithtown resident who is fundraising for clean, safe and reliable water in sub-Saharan Africa for the second time through The Water Project, a non-profit organization.

This organization provides reliable water projects to communities in sub-Saharan Africa who suffer needlessly from a lack of access to clean water and proper sanitation. For each gift you make to The Water Project, you will eventually receive a report that details the technology used, the location of the effort, the number of people it serves and photographs of the process and completed water project.

“Can you imagine not having access to safe drinking water?

Not having clean water to shower with? Not knowing if the water you cook with will make you ill? I can’t, but I

New York Blood Center (NYBC) announces a blood shortage in the region, one year after New York was the epicenter of the pandemic.

Before COVID-19, donors could stop by community blood drives at convenient locations like high schools, colleges, and offices. It has been one year since these groups had to cancel their blood drives due to COVID-19 and few have been able to resume these life-saving events.

NYBC currently has a 4 day supply of blood, which is well below what is needed by area hospitals.

New York’s healthcare system requires 1,500 donations each day to treat patients ranging from trauma victims to newborn babies and their mothers to cancer patients. Donors with type O and type B blood are especially needed as NYBC currently has a 1-2 day supply of these blood types.

“With thousands of New Yorkers getting vaccinated each day, we are thrilled to watch our state recover from this catastrophic year,” said Andrea Cefarelli, Senior Executive Director at New York Blood Center.

“As New York bounces back in strides this spring, we need everyone to make an appointment and donate blood to help save lives. While the end of the pandemic is near, our struggle to fight for those in need continues.”

We are taking extra precautions to help prevent the person-to-person spread of COVID-19. As always, people are not eligible to donate if they’re experiencing a cold, sore throat, respiratory infection or flu-like symptoms.

Janice leaves behind to mourn her husband Lawrence; her daughter Laurette Ullian (Tom); her grandson Nicholas, her sister JoAnn

Pitelli, and seven nieces and nephews. A funeral service was conducted at the funeral home

by Deacon Pat Labella.

Interment followed in Pinelawn Memorial Park.

She was 80 years old. Janice was born in Merrick, LI. To Frank and Ada (Bartow) Rice. After graduation from high school she attended Ithica College receiving a BS in music education; Queens college where she received her MS and New York University receiving a PHD. She was the District Director of Fine and Performing Arts at Massapequa schools where she taught for 38 years. She was the leader of a fund raising project aimed at refurbishing the high school auditorium.
