Town of Babylon Councilman Terence McSweeney and Anthony Manetta recently participated in Northeast Elementary Schools’ “Love a Book Week” by visiting classes, sharing their favorite books, and reading to the students. In a joint statement, McSweeney and Manetta emphasized the importance of reading to children at an early age, highlighting the benefits of boosting brain development, strengthening bonds, and fostering empathy and emotional intelligence through books. Jersey Mike’s Team Up For Third Consecutive Day

Special Olympics New York is pleased to announce that 36 Jersey Mike’s Subs locations around the state will participate in the Day and Month of Giving campaigns for the third consecutive year.

Throughout March, customers can donate to Special Olympics NY at participating Jersey Mike’s restaurants. The campaign culminates with a Day of Giving on Wednesday, March 27, when local Jersey Mike’s restaurants will give 100 percent of the day’s sales to the athletes of Special Olympics NY.

Join the South Shore Audubon Society for a bird walk at the Norman J. Levy Park and Preserve in Merrick on Sunday, March 24, starting at 9:00 a.m.

The entrance road to the Norman Levy Preserve is located on the south side of Merrick Road, just east of the Meadowbrook Parkway. (It is the same road as the Department of Sanitation entrance).

NYS Senator Alexis Weik Honors Amityville

NY State Senator Alexis Weik (NY 8th District) visited DM Tax Solutions LLC in Amityville recently to present a special proclamation to the firm’s principal and dedicated community volunteer Donna Gellineau-Matone.

The proclamation recognized GellineauMatone’s exemplary service to her community and state, as a successful business development and tax accountant, business owner, member and former President of the Amityville Rotary Club, and Treasurer of the Babylon Citizens Council

on the Arts (BACCA). She has also been instrumental in helping to guide Amityville’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative as a member of the Local Planning Committee, to enhance the Village aesthetic and attract new businesses, visitors and residents.

Ms. Gellineau-Matone, a resident of Amityville, was delighted to have been selected as a recipient of the honor which was awarded during Black History Month. She continues to provide professional service to her clients while volunteering her

time and talents with arts and community service organizations that make a difference locally.

Senator Weik congratulated her “for all you have accomplished and continue to do as a woman running your own business and for still finding the time to give back to the community.”

Amityville Mayor Dennis Siry spoke highly of her, saying “We are so pleased to see Donna recognized especially during Black History Month. She is always eager to help and is a valued member of our Village community.”
