Helping Hand Rescue Mission(HHRM) is a local non-profit organization that is based in Huntington, but serves people all over our island. Their mission is to improve the spiritual and temporal conditions of the children, families and people of the communities they serve by providing excellent service to all who come, whether they be rich or poor, high or low social status.

They are here to love, to serve and to give.

They are so excited to be hosting their first Community Share Day on Saturday, September 18th with the Huntington Assembly of God! This will be a fun and engaging new way for their kindhearted, caring donors to connect with the families that they serve in their beautiful Huntington Station community.

How does it work? You register online for a time slot. Then you neatly pack your car with the items you would like to share with the community, such as clothing, toys, household items, unexpired nonperishable food and any other items in good/new condition. Clothing must not be ripped, torn, or stained, missing buttons, or broken zippers. If you would like to give gift cards to families you may, but they ask that no cash is given. Also, no large electronics or furniture please.

You can sign up for a two-hour time slot, where they will have the cars set up “trunk-or-treat” style in the parking lot.

Community members will be able to walk around to the different cars and browse. You must stay by your

request.

There will be no charge for donating or receiving items at the event and HHRM reserves the right to review all items on the day of the event. Tax receipts will be provided for all donations upon

The festival was well attended by bluegrass fans and community members, who sprawled out across the park to enjoy the music and a number of other activities.

Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey and Ray Tierney, a former Assistant United States Attorney and current Suffolk

County District Attorney candidate, joined the festival-goers to show their support and congratulate BACCA President Shawn Cullinane and Board Member Frank Seibert for hosting another successful and well attended event!

BACCA’s programs are made possible in part with public funds from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State

Legislature, the County of Suffolk, County Executive Steven Bellone and the Suffolk County Legislature and Legislator McCaffrey, the Town of Babylon, Supervisor Rich Schaffer, the Town of Babylon Local Development Corporation (LDC), the Lindenhurst Business Improvement District, and from membership and private contributions. This is an excellent opportunity for families with children to come and serve the community together. The organization is looking for volunteers to help at the mission with their distributions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Tasks include sorting, folding, hanging on racks, rolling racks in and out of the building, helping with pantry bags on occasion and being available to help people find items for their families.

Wildwood State Park Fall Festival The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic PreservationLong Island Region is pleased to announce that the 27th Annual Fall Festival will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Wildwood State Park in Wading River from 11:00 am-4:00 pm, rain or shine.

The festival features a variety of local craft vendors and free activities which include pony rides, family entertainment, a petting zoo, inflatables (weather permitting), children’s games and much more. The Recreation Department hosts the 6th

Annual Build a Scarecrow Contest and Guess How Much the Pumpkin Weighs contest. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase.

The Wildwood Fall Festival is sponsored by New York State Parks, The Natural Heritage Trust, WBAB 102.3FM, WBLI 106.1FM and Lewin Farms.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has been closely monitoring the COVID-19 positivity rates, hospitalizations and projected trends for this September across the country to evaluate the safety of hosting an in-person event this September. We are fully committed to the safety and well-being of our pediatric cancer patient families, volunteers, participants, community and staff.

We have made the difficult decision to transition the St. Jude Walk/Run - Long Island, NY to a virtual only event. This decision is not one that we make lightly however as a children’s hospital, we have a responsibility to prioritize the care of some of our community’s most vulnerable — children.
