Advisory Committee Findings Continued From 3 Schools Charles A. Leunig noted that the district, with community support, has done all that it can to maintain facilities. The current facilities, however, were not designed to support today’s 21st-century learning environment, the instructional programs mandated by the state, and the classroom space and support services space needed to properly educate the current and future student population.

Peter Michaelsen, the district’s assistant superintendent for business, explained that the repairs and renovations cannot be funded through the annual school budget due to the state-imposed property tax levy cap.

However, by funding the projects through a bond referendum, the district would benefit from

receiving approximately 75 percent in state building aid, greatly reducing the cost to community residents.

The committee characterized its findings as either high, medium or low priority. Tracy Conhiser-Uy of Wendell, the district’s architect, identified areas that need to be addressed in each building, including health, safety and welfare; educational program, which includes space needs for classroom and support services as well as science and music; preventive maintenance; items at the end of their useful life; energy efficiency; functional upgrades; accessibility and ADA compliance; and technology upgrades.

As I sit here on yet another deadline day, scrambling to finish the last of my work for the week, I am in search of some of that inspiration for my column. Last week’s article drew perhaps some of the greatest attention on the social media circuit, as I was pleasantly surprised by numerous “likes,” “comments” and “shares” from those supporters who follow my page on

Facebook (see above).

It’s amazing how a little positive feedback can provide that much-needed affirmation that, yes, you are doing something worthwhile that people appreciate. And, on that note, I do appreciate the support of you, the readers.

Without an audience, words are merely diary entries, notes to self never meant to see the light of day. But with interaction, and reaction, they take on new life.

Of course, it helps to actually get out from behind the desk and live life from time to time too. How else can you expect to experience

QUESTION: Some of my teeth have become loose and I'm in danger of losing them. What can be done?

ANSWER: If you are a victim of periodontal disease, the bone that supports the teeth and gums tends to shrink causing teeth to become loose. They may also drift out of proper alignment.

One method your dentist may use to stabilize your loose teeth is to "splint" them together and secure them into place.

This can be accomplished through the use of attached crowns. The loose teeth are crowned to each other, producing a splinting or supporting effect. They are also properly realigned to improve their appearance as well as their chewing efficiency. Any tooth that becomes loose is in danger of being lost, and once lost the tooth is gone forever.

No artificial tooth can replace the chewing efficiency of a natural tooth. By using the splint technique, your dentist can stabilize your loose teeth and give them more years of use.

The Babylon IDA encourages the students to excel academically and then enter the local workforce and help maintain the economic stability of the Town of Babylon.

Starting Saturday, June 14th at 8 a.m., Mike Filippone batted baseballs for 24 hours until 8 a.m. on June 15th at Sawyer Avenue Park in West Babylon.

His goal was to set a new Guinness World Record but also to raise money for the Dan Gambardella Memorial Fund. Dan was both a coach and a friend to many in North Babylon who was tragically killed by a drunk driver.

Dan’s wife Linda started this fund in his memory as a way to help families who were going through a crisis
