Northeast Elementary School’s Festive Spring Concert And Art Show

On April 17, there was standing room only in Northeast Elementary School’s gymnasium as parents, teachers and administrators attended the school’s Spring Concert and Art Show in Amityville. Pre-kindergartners performed numerous songs under the direction of music teacher Megan Ashe to celebrate different cultures and countries around the

world. Additionally, art teacher Nicole Pappas organized artwork from Northeast’s students which were on display in the school’s gymnasium.

Amityville Celebrates 21st-Century Learning During STREAM Night

On May 13, the Amityville School District held its annual STREAM Night celebration for students from grades pre-K-5.

The celebration was held at Amityville Memorial High School’s gymnasium and cafeteria in which

students enjoyed the wonders of 21st-century learning. Along with their families, students explored the burgeoning disciplines of science, technology, robotics, engineering, the arts and mathematics.

Additionally, members of the National Junior Honor

Society set up different stations throughout the gymnasium as students participated in a variety of activities such as a cup pyramid challenge, a pipe cleaner tower challenge, a slime bar, KEVA planks and more.

During a Breast Cancer Diagnosis—to be held on Monday, June 3, from 12 noon to 1 pm, will provide empowering information about the various health professionals who can help patients throughout a breast cancer diagnosis. Attendees at this free ZOOM event will learn critical information about helping themselves and loved ones.

Panel members are Susan M. Palleschi, MD, FACS, Director of Breast Surgery, Glen Cove Hospital, and breast cancer navigators Jacqueline Barber RN, CBCN, and Elizabeth Dowling RN, BSN, both of Northwell Health Cancer Institute.

Diet And Mental Wellness

Nutritious diets have long been touted as essential components of healthy lifestyles. Many people have a tendency to view diet as something that’s purely physical, associating the foods they eat with how they look and how much energy they have. While accurate, it doesn’t paint the full picture of just how big and positive an impact healthy diets can have on overall health.

In regard to healthy diets, it’s hard to dispute the effectiveness of the Mediterranean diet. The Mediterranean diet focuses on plant-based foods and, as a result, includes lots of fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, and olive oil. The diet is so healthy that the World Health Organization even recognizes it as a healthy, sustainable dietary pattern.

The event is sponsored by the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program in collaboration with Northwell Health Cancer Institute and Friedman Center for Breast and Lymphatic Surgery.

Susan M. Palleschi, MD, FACS, Director, Breast Surgery, Glen Cove Hospital, is a breast surgeon specialist who has been in practice for 25 years. She is board certified by the American College of Surgeons, and is a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons. Jacqueline Barber RN, CBCN, and Elizabeth Dowling RN, BSN, are both Breast Nurse Navigators at Northwell Health Cancer Institute. Patient navigators guide patients through the health care system and overcome barriers that prevent them from getting the care that they need. Patient navigation helps people get the health care and other resources they need to be as healthy as possible. Ms. Barber is also a 16- year breast cancer survivor.

Hospital Association Offers $2,000 Scholarship

The Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council (NSHC) announces a $2,000 scholarship for college juniors/seniors or post graduate students who are studying Journalism, Marketing/ Communications, or Healthcare Administration. (The

scholarship is not for clinical-based study.)
