150 River Street Village Senior Housing Community
Mixed income project in Mattapan will yield 30 units when complete
NEI and a local minority owned builder, Nicoya Construction, begun work on 150 River Street Village senior housing project in Mattapan which represents a collaboration between Caribbean Integration Community Development (CICD) and the Archdiocese of Boston’s Planning Office for Urban Affairs (POUA).
Designed by DMS Design, LLC the project broke ground on March 28th and a Ground Breaking Ceremony was held on June 12.
When River Street Village is complete around this time next year, it will contain 30 one-bedroom units that are affordable for those making anywhere from 30 percent to 70 percent of the local median income. There will be an emphasis on community space and a public garden, as well as proximity to public transportation. Other features will include details that help older adults stay connected to each other and to the community, including an indoor community room, living room/ common area, and laundry facilities.
“We’re thrilled to partner with our longtime contractor, NEI, on a project that addresses the affordable housing
“We are pleased to kick off yet another project that will deliver much-needed housing stock to areas in need, and help older adults find a comfortable dwelling that allows them to remain in the Mattapan community.”

crisis by providing housing for residents to safely and comfortably age in place, on a long-vacant site in Mattapan,” said Bill Grogan, President of the Planning Office for Urban Affairs. “We believe, above all, that everyone deserves an affordable place to call home. The 150 River Street Village will provide housing for those who are getting priced out of the City of Boston and will allow our residents to age comfortably within their community of existing supports.”
We recently celebrated our subcontractors at The Cove in Worcester, MA with a luncheon from Blue Ribbon Barbecue. Once complete the project will feature a seven-story, 173 unit development with retail, entertainment, and stateof-the-art amenities.

Bridge 2 Trades and NEI General Contracting Celebrate 2024 Graduates
Bridge 2 Trades was established to connect the students with practical, real-world exposure and training that equips them with the skills needed across various industries, construction being the first of many trades Wise Jr. and B2T will tackle. Each year, B2T focuses on fields facing a shortfall of skilled workers. The 2024 B2T six-week exploratory program, co-led by NEI, provided students with valuable certifications such as OSHA 10 and First Aid, CPR and Narcan, as well as workshops on drone operation, building information modeling (BIM), and exposure to plan reading, project management and pre-construction concepts. Students were also exposed to hands-on experiences in the construction industry, including training in plumbing and electrical during their site visits to local union training centers. NEI played a crucial role by leading day-to-day operations and facilitating workshops that brought the curriculum to life.

“Our collaboration with NEI has been instrumental in delivering a program that truly makes a difference in the lives of young people,” said Wise Jr. “By providing access to mentorship and real-world experiences, we are helping to build a workforce that is not only skilled but also confident in their abilities to succeed.”
This partnership between NEI General Contracting and Bridge 2 Trades exemplifies how collaboration between industry leaders and community-focused programs can create lasting impacts. Both organizations are committed to continuing their work together to ensure that more students have access to the training and opportunities needed to succeed in highdemand fields.
