CHARCOAL SPACE DISSECTION
CONTENTS
FORM MONTAGE PAVILION
Charcoal
A charcoal sketch that aims to capture a still life composition. Focus is to capture the light and shadow play as well as the textures of the different objects
Dissection
Plan, section, and elevation projections of a table lamp. Further, the same table lamp is animated to depict possible movement with an underlying geomentry and trajectory.
Plan, Section and Elevation
Space
This exercise is an exploration of the relationship between rolled and unrolled surfaces. How a surface translates into a three-dimensional object, how voids create more spaces and how two dimensional and three dimensional surfaces interact with each other collectively contribute to the formation of the space.
Form
This exercise was an iterative process between two-dimensional and three-dimensional art. It ranged across physical and digital mediums to give a better understanding of form.
Montage
A montage of interior and exterior pictures of crouse hall. The idea is to create a dynamic two-dimensional compositon out of simple photographs and arranging them to create movement. Movement through a place is depicted in a simple collage. The kinetic, embodied experience of architecture is preserved
Pavilion
A space designed in form of a pavilion to exhibit comic books. The idea is to percieve a space as a holistic approach to a singular item displayed in it. To achive this, a partwhole dialectic is metaphorically weaved through the pavilion. Implied edges are incorporated in the design with a central void connecting all sections together. Hence, spaces tend to preserve their autonomy while being contingent- just how a comic book preserves the suspence in the flow. Every vertical surface is conceptually made from a single strip of paper with slits and folds. This surface manipulation preserves the compositonal logic and dynamics of comic book panels on a page. Additionally, the dynamics are accentuated by integrating the Raumplan method, where the idea is to create a dynamic section where movement takes place through plan and section simultaneously. The main aim is to link the experience of reading a comic book to walking through a space that preserves the inherent narrative and organization of a comic book.
