President’s Message These past few months have probably been the hardest in recent history for a lot of our members. The shutdown has impacted our chapter in a multitude of ways from cancellations of events to redefining how we meet moving forward. While these new restrictions have been a burden to navigate, your board has worked hard to overcome the obstacles to keep the chapter moving forward both in-person as well as virtual.

3rd Quarter Preview: ¨

New chapter website - The new site will be live by the end of July.

Directory: The directory will allow members to connect easier with business partners through a redesigned interactive directory organized by service provided.

Education: The move to virtual was a task our current site was not capable of supporting. We will now have a treasure chest of literature, videos, and updates at your fingertips.

Events/Calendar: The days of clicking one link that takes you to a site to register just to then be directed to a 3rd site for payment are over! All of our current events and sponsorships will be easily accessed from the site.

Sponsor Spotlights June to August - This has been a very hard couple of months for our business partners. A majority of business is conducted face to face and the shutdown has stopped all of this interaction. To help bridge this gap we will start doing business partner spotlights.

Social July 16th - Kyle Stoudenmire of the Social Committee has worked hard to find a place to get us back to the fun! Mark

Chapter Meeting - Ed Ronsman of the Program Committee is working with Jax Golf and Country Club to set a date for a July Chapter Meeting. We will broadcast the meeting via Zoom for anyone who does not feel comfortable attending.

Happy Hour - Keep an eye out for Happy Hour meetups around town to start again in July. These informal meetups are a great way to meet other members by stopping in for a few minutes on your way home.

Expo 2020 - Due to COVID-19 our Expo has been moved to February 26, 2021. The board could not justify risking the Chapter’s funds by moving forward with the Expo originally planned for September. The venue’s guidelines and uncertain governing rules have caused a major cut in vendor participation, as well as limited the potential number of attendees. We are pulling all resources together to hold a virtual CEU event in August for managers and then a virtual education day for homeowner leaders in September. If you have an approved virtual CEU Course, please submit your speaker proposal form to our programs committee for review.

All of the items listed above have come from a culmination of ideas from committee members, committee chairs, and your board.

If you have an idea that you think would help the chapter, please reach out to get on a committee. We’ve had a hiccup in our original plans for 2020, but it’s time to lace up and get back in the game! I look forward to seeing everyone soon. It’s been too long.

Nominations for Best Association

One of the main roles of a homeowner or condominium association is to help preserve the community's property values by overseeing the maintenance and upkeep of the individual units as well as the grounds. Some associations are better kept than others and there are few that really stand out. Do you manage one of the best associations in town? Do you have a board of directors that is on top of everything but does not micromanage the

CAM or impose harsh restrictions on its membership?

What makes your association so special? Well, now is the time to share. Make your nomination for the best association. Communities are faced with many novel questions when creating operational procedures and cleaning policies during the COVID-19 pandemic. What is the new normal for community association responsibility when operating and opening facilities during this crisis?

The COVID-19 pandemic has created a broad range of issues community associations are facing for the first time. While many communities are choosing to keep community facilities closed until further notice, and although specific guidelines and restrictions differ depending on your state and county, the following are some things community managers and boards should keep in mind when opening and operating community facilities and understanding community responsibility. Communities should implement protocols for community facilities to uphold social distancing measures and gathering restrictions, such as reducing occupancy limits for amenities, removing certain community furniture, or offering reservation systems for amenity usage.

Communities should follow increased cleaning and sanitization measures. At a minimum, frequently touched surfaces should be sanitized and wiped down, such as doorknobs, bathrooms, and entry doors, on-site personnel should be issued face masks or other personal protective equipment, and disinfectants and sanitation products should be made available for members to use when possible.

While communities have heightened cleaning obligations for community facilities, members are responsible for ensuring their own safety and practicing CDCrecommended health and safety measures.

Communities should post signage outside of community facilities warning residents that COVID-19 may be present. These signs should include language restricting amenity access for people that have been diagnosed with COVID-19, had symptoms of COVID-19, or had contact with a person diagnosed with or having symptoms of COVID-19.

Managers and boards should communicate community facility operational plans and updates to members frequently.

Given the unprecedented nature of COVID-19, it is crucial that managers and boards stay up to date on new federal, state, and local guidance to modify the above procedures as needed to best address this crisis.

Hurricane Season Is Here Information taken from ready.gov/hurricanes#prepare

Hurricane Season is June 1st through November 30th.

Here are some tips to keep you and your family safe. Þ

Know your Hurricane Risk - Find out how rain, wind, water could happen where you live so you can start preparing now. If you do not have flood insurance, get advice from an insurance professional. You may want to purchase it even if you are not in a flood zone.

Know your Evacuation Zone - You may have to evacuate quickly due to a hurricane. Learn your evacuation routes, practice with household, pets, and identify where you will stay. If told to evacuate by local officials, do so immediately.

Recognize Warnings and Alerts - Have several ways to receive alerts. Download the FEMA app and receive real-time alerts from the National Weather Service. Sign up for community alerts in your area and be aware of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA).

Make an Emergency Plan - Make sure everyone in your household understands your hurricane plan. Discuss the latest Centers for Disease Control guidance on COVID-19 and how it may affect your hurricane planning. Don’t forget a plan for the office, kids’ daycare, and anywhere you frequent.

Review Important Documents—Make sure your insurance policies and personal documents like ID are up to date. Make copies and keep them in a secure password protected digital space. Make sure your business has a continuity plan to continue operating when disaster strikes.

Do not walk, swim, or drive through flood waters. Just six inches of fast-moving water can knock you down, and one foot of moving water can sweep your vehicle away.

Stay off bridges over fast-moving water.

Take refuge in a designated storm shelter, or an interior room for high winds. If you must go to a shelter remember to follow the latest guidelines from the CDC for protecting yourself and family from COVID19. Take cleaning items with you like soap, hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes, or general household cleaning supplies to disinfect surfaces you may need to touch regularly.

Maintain at least 6 feet between you and persons not part of your immediate family while at the shelter [by avoiding crowds or gathering in groups] as much as possible. Anyone over 2 years old should use a cloth face covering while at these facilities.
