TRUE BLUE NEBRASKA NEWS
BLUE JACKETS. BRIGHT FUTURES.
One Jacket Can Provide a Lifetime of Opportunities “When I received my FFA jacket, it made me feel proud to be a part of an organization that could expand my knowledge about agriculture and leadership. It made me feel special and lucky because I was officially apart of the FFA family.” To this FFA member, receiving their jacket was the key they needed to unlock the door to their future. By joining her local FFA chapter and being gifted a jacket, this individual was able to set herself down a path of premier leadership, personal growth and career success. It has inspired her to one day become an agriculture teacher and FFA advisor. She wrote, “I want to be in the classroom inspiring students to be a part of FFA and the agriculture industry because, truly, the opportunities are endless.”
Each year, thanks to donors like you, students know what it’s like to be part of the FFA family. Your gift of $100 gives one FFA member a lifetime of opportunities. Over 750 FFA members applied in 2018 through the Blue Jackets. Bright Futures. program. The continued growth of agricultural education and FFA programs in Nebraska combined with the increased costs to purchase an FFA jacket, we expect the need to continue to grow. If you feel compelled to support this campaign and provide for our leaders of tomorrow, please fill out the enclosed envelope or go to neffafoundation.org to make your 2019 Blue Jackets. Bright Futures. donation by September 1.

NEBRASKA STATE FFA PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Grow, Lead and Serve
What I have experienced so far as a state officer has been absolutely outstanding. From meeting the President of the United States to impacting the lives of our members to collaborating with our business leaders on business and industry visits. It is safe to say that these past three months as the Nebraska State FFA President are ones that I will cherish forever. This spring, we were given our first opportunity to meet Nebraska’s FFA members at Chapter Officer Leadership Training (COLT) held in Aurora. COLT has definitely been a highlight of the first part of our year as officers because we were able to meet with our assigned chapters and build relationships with chapter officers from around the state. Ultimately helping them shape their year as they are preparing to grow, lead and serve for their chapter and community. My team and I are looking forward to our future as state officers. This fall we will be facilitating Fall Leadership Conferences for our chapter members across Nebraska. I look forward to connecting with those members and enhancing their futures for a better tomorrow. My team and I will strive to better prepare the members for the agricultural industry. I’m excited to see what FFA has to hold in the upcoming year, and hope that you will be able to attend Nebraska FFA State Convention April 1-3 in Lincoln! Sincerely,
Meet the state officers through the video series on our website, neffafoundation.org, and social media.
I BELIEVE IN THE FUTURE OF AG
Johnson County Central FFA Establishes Scholarship from I Believe Donations “Last October one of our FFA members passed away in a car accident. We were able to use the money from our I Believe campaign to help set up a memorial scholarship fund in her honor,” said Christy Hodges, agriculture teacher and FFA advisor at Johnson County Central (JCC).
“We have been fortunate to have very supportive businesses in our community donate money through the I Believe campaign to our chapter,” said Hodges. JCC FFA members enjoy getting to know those who sponsor the campaign and donate to their chapter.
The I Believe in the Future of Ag campaign serves as an outlet for local FFA chapters to receive donations. This past year, the JCC FFA Chapter was able to establish a scholarship with the donations.
You too can donate to any chapter in Nebraska like JCC FFA through the I Believe in the Future of Ag campaign. All of your donation will be sent back to the designated chapter at the end of the campaign and a portion of the matching funds will be distributed proportionately to participating chapters.
The 2018-19 sophomore class at JCC designed a memorial plaque that hangs in the school hallway. On this plaque the names of each recipient of the $1,000 scholarship will be placed. The chapter plans to continue this scholarship for at least the next 23 years.

LOCAL CHAPTER GRANT AND LAUNCH! PROGRAM
Ogallala Honeybee Cooperative Ogallala students wanted to help the honeybee population from going extinct, as well as have a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) for FFA members by starting the Ogallala Honeybee Cooperative through the Launch! program. Launch! is a year-long program, which serves as a powerful catalyst in entrepreneurship-based education for agriculture education students. After establishing the cooperative for Ogallala FFA members through Launch!, they realized how big of a financial investment this would be for the chapter and FFA members. The FFA advisor, Seth Heinert, decided to apply for the Nebraska FFA Foundation Local Chapter Grant. In 2018, Ogallala received funds through the grant program to be used towards their school-based enterprise, Ogallala Honeybee Cooperative. When asked if they would have been able to grow the bee cooperative without the grant Heinert said, “No! This was
a capital intense project. Without funding we would have been unable to purchase the necessary equipment to help students get started with this project. Six FFA members are a part of the cooperative currently. The Ogallala Honeybee Cooperative matches students with equipment, mentors and training. The students manage their individual hive, harvest the honey once every fall and combine the honey to sell as a cooperative. Then they will split the profits, said Heinert. The main goal Heinert has as the teacher for this project is to introduce students to entrepreuneurship projects. Ogallala and the 10 other 2018 grant recipients are grateful for the support from Nebraska FFA Foundation donors and sponsors that make the grant possible. Funds are provided by supporters of the Nebraska FFA Foundation and its general fund.
