NEBRASKA STATE FFA PRESIDENT MESSAGE
TRUE BLUE NEBRASKA NEWS
Amanda Most Greetings, Nebraska FFA!
Knowing the involvement of Nebraska FFA members, I have no doubt that you all have had busy summers and that time has flown by! That’s how it has felt to me since I was elected into office at State Convention in April. What an amazing whirlwind it has been! I cannot describe how grateful I am to serve as your 2018-2019 Nebraska FFA State President. I’m blessed to have the chance to meet, work and grow with you all throughout the next year and I’m looking forward to seizing each opportunity I have to do so.
My team and I have been working hard since April preparing for our year of service by attending several trainings to develop our roles and learn more about each other’s strengths. Within a short amount of time, our skills and talents were put to use planning the 2018 Chapter Officer Leadership Training (COLT) Conference. At the conclusion of the four COLT sessions, my team and I had connected with around 1,000 Nebraska FFA members! We were blown away by the incredible individuals that we met, and we have nothing but confidence in the leadership of Nebraska FFA chapters for the next year. After meeting with members and advisors during COLT, the state officer team traveled the state during June connecting with generous sponsors and donors of Nebraska FFA. Our eyes were once again opened to the many different avenues within the agriculture industry. We were also filled with gratefulness as we witnessed firsthand the immense amount of support that surrounds our organization.
The first few months serving Nebraska FFA have been nothing short of spectacular, but there’s still much more to do. My team and I will continue to challenge ourselves to grow as leaders in order to better serve, and we are nothing but eager for the months ahead. Best,
I BELIEVE IN THE FUTURE OF AG
I Believe Update
September marks the official start of the eighth annual I Believe in the Future of Ag fundraising campaign. This campaign serves as an outlet for local FFA chapters to raise money for innovative projects in their classrooms, leadership programming, community service projects and field trips to advance agriculture education in their schools. This year, Aurora Cooperative, BigIron Auctions, Central Valley Ag, DEKALB/Asgrow, Hoegemeyer Hybrids and Verdesian committed $20,000 each to the campaign. Other sponsors, contributing $10,000 each, include: Bayer CropScience, CoBank, Country Partners Cooperative, CPI, Farm Credit Services of America, Farmers Cooperative, Frontier Coop, GrainBridge, Lindsay Corporation, Nebraska Farm Bureau Federation, Pinnacle Bank, Producers Livestock, Valley Irrigation and Croplan by WinField United. Donors to the I Believe in the Future of Ag campaign choose which chapter they support. 100 percent of each local donation will be sent back to the designated chapter at the end of the campaign and a portion of the $35,000 challenge matching pool will be distributed to participating chapters.

True Blue Society Donors: Glenn and Lynn Baumert
Glenn Baumert grew up on a farm south of Scribner and became very involved in the Scribner FFA Chapter. His best memory from FFA was having the opportunity to attend State and National Convention. At the time National Convention was held in Kansas City, where Glenn and many other FFA members were amazed by the magnitude of the agriculture industry. “The things I learned during my agricultural education experience I still use every day at my job,” said Glenn. For example, participating in parliamentary procedure taught him how to successfully run a meeting and land judging taught him what a quality farm looks like.
Glenn is the head of the ag lending division of Union Bank & Trust. He met his wife Lynn, who grew up in Wisner, when they were in college. Lynn is the Emergency Room Coordinator and Assistant Director of Nursing at the Saunders Medical Center. The couple has three married children, Amy and Matt Lehnert, son Eric and Kelsey Baumert and Kristin and Rusty Andresen and seven grandchildren. None of their children were able to be in FFA because Wahoo didn’t have a chapter at the time.
“Agricultural education has evolved throughout the last 30 years. There are so many more opportunities to help develop our students into young leaders.”
BLUE JACKETS. BRIGHT FUTURES. PROGRAM
2018 Jacket Program Donation Deadline September 1 You can change an FFA members life forever by donating $100 to purchase a member a jacket and tie or scarf. Over 750 FFA members applied for an FFA jacket last year through the Blue Jackets. Bright Futures. program and we were only able to award 277 jackets. We expect the need to grow with the continued growth of agricultural education and FFA programs in Nebraska combined with the increased costs to purchase an FFA jacket. Our goal this year is to have 300 jackets donated.
Make your contribution by September 1 to contribute to the 2018 Blue Jackets. Bright Futures. program. You can donate at neffafoundation.org then click on donate and specify for jacket fund or fill out the donation envelope in this newsletter.

True Blue Society Donors: Rich and Susie Douglass Rich and Susie Douglass of Cortland both grew up in the country. Rich was a member of the Crete FFA chapter. He describes his experience in FFA as unforgettable. While in FFA he participated in creed speaking, FFA band and served as a district chairman. His favorite memory from participating in FFA was having the state officers make a home visit to see his Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE). That experience made him feel like what he was doing in high school was important. After FFA, Rich went to college to become an agriculture teacher. Once Rich was an FFA Advisor, Susie went along on all of the field trips to State Convention, National Convention and contests. She even helped the FFA chapter by being their volunteer secretary. Rich said she instantly bonded with the FFA members. Rich now is active on the FFA Alumni Board and with the National Teach Ag Campaign. He also serves on the Nebraska FFA Foundation Board. 5
