Neev’s learning culture focuses on a whole child approach with the aim to keep the uniqueness of each individual as they grow with us from the age of 18 months to 18 years. The learning framework continued to build on this belief while keeping ‘relationship building’ and ‘the well-being’ at the core of our teaching and learning practices. These beliefs helped us to articulate the definition of learning stated below as five impacts that we seek -

Self-directed learners who will be able to learn autonomously throughout their lives in order to achieve their potential, keep pace with change and meet emerging opportunities.

Grade

Assessment and Grading in DP

Report cards on academic and pastoral aspects are issued at the end of term 1 and term 2 in Grade 11 and at the end of term 1 and the mock examinations, in Grade 12. Two grades are awarded:

An achievement grade which is formed from a combination of continuous assessment (40%) during the term and the end-of-term examination (60%). A grade scale from 1 to 7 (seven being the highest), is used to report achievement grades.

An effort grade which is based on formative tasks and non academic parameters such as academic honesty, independent work, self-management, communication, creativity, class participation and collaboration. A grade scale A to D (A being the highest) is used to report effort grades.

Predicted grades arebasedon a student’sbodyofwork matched to overallsubject grade descriptors. There is a very close correlation between ourpredicted gradesandthe finaldiploma programmeresults

Theory of Knowledge (ToK): Neev has a successful ToK course with several students obtaining the highest grade. In May 2022, 45% of the class obtained grade A, and approximately 45% obtained grade B. IDEAS@NEEV is a lecture series we began with leading industrialists, entrepreneurs, historians, artists, writers, which brings multiple perspectives to our students. Engagement with multiple perspectives is a foundational aspect of the ToK course. The school also extends this with sessions by experts from science, visual art, language and math. At the end of the first year, our DP students share their growing understanding with the community via the TOK exhibition. The students’ enriched metacognitive knowledge is evident in their presentations, which contain complex ideas appropriately modified for a general audience.

The Extended Essay (EE): EE at Neev aims to develop students’ research capability by allowing them to go through all steps of research, beginning with exploration and a literature review to a viva voce for reflection on the entire process. Our students have chosen interesting EE topics across subject groups, ranging from language & literature (analyzing the language in a 1000 page cookbook, comparative studies across genres besides individual piece analysis), math (analyzing shorelines), and world studies (language learning, maternal care) besides the more typical ones in Physics, Economics, Visual Arts, Theater, Geography and Business Management. We see a growing maturity in the choices our DP students are making for their research interests.

Creativity, Activity and Service(CAS): All three strands of CAS are equally important at Neev and are expected to be demonstrated across the two years of the DP. Creativity gives students the opportunity to take an idea and develop it into an original product; activity ensures that students develop a healthy lifestyle through physical exercise and exertion; service brings students together with the community around them in response to an authentic need. A few CAS projects created by Neev students often combine more than one CAS strand leading to engagement at several levels of personal and interpersonal learning. A few of the ‘named’ CAS projects are:

ï‘Griseo’ helps teenagers cope with stress through webinars and articles.

ï'The Joyful Peach' curates positive news and aims to spread positivity in the community.

ï‘Amarte ' - ‘Art while apart’- art sessions for people to de-stress.

ï‘Sole Warriors’ - Shodding migrant worker communities with recycled footwear

ï‘Hundred4Future’ - Crowdfunding and structuring savings for the parents for the education of underprivileged children.

ï‘Single Story’ - Developing English reading skills of young underprivi leged children.

Assessingthe core: Theory of Knowledge and the extended essay are assessed, while CAS is not formally assessed but it is necessary to meet all requirements for the award of the diploma. The grade obtained in ToK (A-E) and in the EE (A-E) combine to give each student a maximum of three points. These points are referred to as core points.

EXTRA CURRICULAR & SERVICES

Student Advancement Cell (SAC)

SAC nurtures each child from Grade 1 to Grade 12, irrespective of learning difference, with support, services and/or opportunities to motivate them in growing and exploring their interests and passions and in turn assisting them to be - college, career and citizen ready. The domains in the SAC are - Learning Support, Behavior Counselling, College Counselling & Student Life

Student Life

Neev Academy believes in the process of learning by doing. By engaging students in hands-on experiences and reflection, they are better able to connect theories and knowledge learned in the classroom to real-world situations. In addition, Neev offers a variety of interest and choice activities during and after school hours to build strong school teams and develop a culture of sports, music, drama, writing and debate. We have student-led clubs in highschool. While in the primary and middle school we have expert-led classes in Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Music, Instruments, Pottery, Indian Art forms, Public Speaking, Bridge, Robotics and Sustainability. The student government at Neev, has a range of representation through all grade levels ensuring that students actively experience the working of a democracy. Leaders range from the President at the top to the House captains, vice captains & class representatives giving a fairly good representation of all ages of the student body. There is also a programming and fundraising coordinator and a student led newspaper - NeevTimes.

Learning Journeys

Neev thinks global and acts local in keeping with the IB philosophy. Our field trips focus locally in India where we ensure that our students get relevant opportunities for immersion in the traditions and culture of a diverse country. Learning journeys are embedded into curriculum, beginning in Grade4, growing progressively from 4 days to two weeks in Grade 9, allowing students to understand the grandeur and reality of India; from Hampi in the south to Ladakh and Rajasthan in the North, and from Gujarat and Maharashtra in the west to Nagaland, Assam and Meghalaya in the east. The Grade 11 students travel to Gudalur, built around the concept of identity. Where they study the lives of forest tribes in the region to enhance their social and civic sense and also to Northeast India, a cultural and biodiversity hotspot, trekking to and exploring regional identities and indigenous knowledge systems developed over centuries.

Academic Writing

DP students write extensively and intensively for core academic work and university applications. The writing capability they develop is one of the reasons why DP is considered to be university prep. Academic writing workshops lay a foundation in middle years and build it up through the years, helping students analyze, think critically and focus on technique and style. Understanding writing imperatives makes it easier for growing learners to write papers and essays moving forward, which they exercise through academic work, research and writing oriented internships and passion led research papers across learning areas.

Reading Initiative

Neev strives to build a strong foundational love for books, and grow that love over time. Our unique Reading team introduces students to great books using a calendar of genres and concepts. The team works with teachers to build literature into units of study to broaden perspectives. These efforts are amplified with the Neev Literature Festival (NLF), the Neev Book Award (NBA), and the NLF Reading Challenge, to spread the love for reading with a wider community.

Internship Opportunities

Over the last 3 years our students have got opportunities to intern at various organizations in their areas of interest from the likes of Takshashila Institute and IDFC Foundation for the students interested in Public Policy to Mahindra Aerospace for the students who were interested in mechanical engineering. Some other organizations include - Investment firms FinTech Capital and HSBC, Research companies IBM and Frolle to advertising firms JWT and Dentsu Mcgarry Bowen.
