Not only will you be the first to avail yourselves of the widespread integration of electronic medical records but you will also have real-time access to remote diagnosis and consultation. To our finest Optometrist colleagues, Four years ago, we started a journey together with anticipation of what the path of Optometry would bring. Today, our journey together is at its end, and we are moving on to create our own.

As we flip through these pages, we will witness how we have conquered all that optometry school has thrown at us in these past four years - we overcame the stresses of projects and exams, pushed through crazy clinical hours, and dedicated ourselves to countless hours of learning and studying. American Academy of Optometry

Mission Statement: The major goal of the American Academy of Optometry is to maintain and enhance excellence in standards of optometric practice. It does this by fostering research and the dissemination of knowledge in both basic and applied vision science.

American Optometric Student Association (AOSA)

ASS®

The AOSA represents student interests to a variety of organizations including the National Board of Examiners in Optometry, International Association of the Board, Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry, and various sections of the American Optometric Association.

Beta Sigma Kappa (BSK) Mission Statement: To stimulate scientific attainment, academic excellence I and the ethical practice of optometry; and to promote and provide financial I support for worthy research projects relating to vision care and the eyes.

NECO Student Council

The student Council governs the internal affairs of the student body. The! Council consists of twenty three voting members and is made up of th a Executive Board; representatives from ODI, ODII, ODIII classes, thel Accelerated Optometric Degree Program, and the Advanced Standing International Programs. The Council meets periodically with school administrators to help set policy concerning student interests, and oversees! the election of student representatives to administrative committees such! as Curriculum, Student Affairs, and Financial Aid.

Massachusetts Society of Optometrists (MSO) The Massachusetts Society of Optometrists (MSO) is dedicated to tha fulfillment of quality vision and eye care needs of all the public. To achieva this goal, MSO seeks to unite all Massachusetts optometrists in their efforl to practice the highest standard of care trough support of continuing education and research.

National Optometric Student Association (NOSA)

Performance Vision Club

The National Optometric Student Association (NOSA) promotes the delivery of vision care to minority communities through consumer education, legislative advocacy, and minority recruitment and retention activities. The Association informs minority community [members about vision protection and works to raise legislators' awareness of minority consumers' visual needs.

Fellowship of Christian Optometrists (FCO)

Objectives of the Performance Vision Club (PVC) are to serve all patients in the community to improve their visual performance; to inform the public of preventative measures to ensure proper eye safety and to reduce the risk of eye injury; to promote professional standards of behavior and mutual respect among members, and to promote professional standards of behavior among members of the student organization and the general public.

ThP Fellowshio of Christian Optometrists, International, Inc., founded in 1986, is a not-for-profit evangelical organization of Christian optometrists, optometry students, and allied °Phth® ^ p| ! ? ° nhW committed to world wide eye care missions and intraprofessional Christian fellowship. NECO FC0 ha participated i n m i s s i o n trips to Belize and Honduras and have worked with many doctors and organiza to help support mission trips around the world.

Private Practice Club

I

The PPC is a group of students at the New England College of Optometry with a collective interest in private practice and practice management. The PPC is open to all current students at the New England College of Optometry. We work to provide students with information on howto run a successful optometric practice, give students the tools need to manage a private practice after receiving their degree, and encourage networking between current students, alumni, and private practitioners. We also provide speakers and activities dealing wi operating a successful practice.

NECO Lion's Club

Vision Statement: To be the global leader in community and humanitarian service. Mission Statement. To empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions cubs.

NECO Lions club has been involved in seeing the local community in eye care services. We participate in Eye Mobile Screenings around the Greater Boston area and fundraise for the organizations such as the National Braille Press, World Sight Day, and Diabtes Awareness Day. We also collect glasses and donate them to our VOSH chapter. "When it comes to meeting challenges, our response is simple: We serve."

Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity is an international organization dedicated to the elim ination I of preventable blindness. NECO's student chapter works to I provide free eye exam s and vision screenings throughout the greater Boston area. Countless students and faculty also helped make the trip possible by working throughout the year to meet our fundraising goal of over $30,000! O ur I class had one of the largest VOSH groups with 20 students I participating in our week long international clinic held in Batey San Ingenio Porvenir, Dominican Republic. Despite some difficulty making our way through custom s, we were able to exam ine and provide glasses to over 900 patients as well as make referrals for cataract and other surgeries and provide m edications where appropriate. VOSH continues to be an international organization with 35 regional chapters (including some in Canada) waiting for your participation as an OD!
