FRO M TH E ED ITO R . . . Our lives together began not so long ago with strange faces before us were they friend or foe? The question wasn’t asked, the days drifted on and we got easily in tune to the Crossroads Song. We worked through the problems and the long stressful days, we survived the cold of winter then enjoyed the sun’s sweet rays. The summer finally arrived with a blast of heat beach balls, lotion and sandals on our feet. Our second year together came into view so we met with the Kelton Boys “just to have a few”. Then fall turned to winter and the winter turned cold did someone say the answer was epicanthal fold? No time to panic no need to worry proficiencies can be passed as long as you hurry. The lights came up in Lecture Hall II all eyes seemed closed except for a few. We stretched and we yawned and we woke from our naps then grabbed a tall beer and our baseball caps. The weather got warm, they cleared out the dorm and shipped us off to NEEI the eye of the storm. The summer term was meant to further our career but all we could think of was Crossroads and ice cold beer. Just like the summerboards came and went, we signed new leases and paid outrageous rent. 2

Third year appeared with the blink of an eye one whole day a week for dresses, shirts and a tie. There were patients to meet and new preceptors to greet. Ten page papers that took all our time we groaned and we moaned and thought it a crime. Grand Rounds were a blur or was it a snore and a yawn? A race down the stairs before the free food was gone. The winter faded away and the spring came to stay so we met at the Crossroads what the hell, it was a warm Boston day. Then the day finally came to toast our last beers to friends and memories and shedding a few tears. But the end of the tunnel holds light and hope and we’re no longer dangling by that fragile, thin rope. With our rotations behind us we’ve got nothing to lose and no one can argue it’s been one hell of a lovely cruise. THANKS FOR THE M EM ORIES SHARON MAGILL

A FEW THOUGHTS FROM SIMONE GOLANTE: “ I’m a naughty girl.” PRAMESH PATEL: “ You cheeky monkey.” JOHN RATH JENS: “ Skywriting; with the sweep of a flashlight.” GEOFF WHITE: “ All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” SHARON MAGILL: “ My garden is filled with papayas and mangos. My life is a mixture of reggaes and tangos. Taste for the good life, I can live it no other way. While out on the esplanade, there are two empty chairs, that say more than the people who ever sit there. From under the Boston sun, I can look out on the day.” DOROTHY HITCHMOTH: “ In order not to offend, we render ourselves and our lives humorless. How dull!” ANDREW BERGER: ‘‘The world is a mystery, surrounded by a riddle, wrapped in an enigma.” JASON K AM IN SK IP Tve got next game!” KERRYMOSCOVITZ: “ Does that turn you on, Rabbi?!” PAUL CANGIANO: “ If you can imagine it, you can achieve it; if you can dream it, you can become it.” JACKIE LE: “ Thank God I don’t have to fall in the snow anymore.” JIMMY ROBERTS: “ W ho’s your daddy!” PAT CONNELLY: “ ZZZZZZZZ!” ROB KNAPP: “ When the annual fund raising phone-a-thon comes around, don’t call me.” KAREN GRUCCI: “ A desire accomplished is sweet to the soul.” PETE PEGOLO: *‘I am not who you think I am, nor am I who I think I am, but rather I am who I think you think I am.” MIKE LARSEN: “ I ’ll always remember the good times we’ve had at the Kelton Starship’s parties the past 3 years (over 5000 beers). Good luck to everyone and have a nice life.” NAHALL MODJARRAD: ‘‘Ha Ha Ha, Hee Hee, I don’t get it! I would like to wish all a great life full of good food, great friends and love!” MICHELLE BOUCHARD: “ Whoever said silence is golden?!” KIM DITOLLA: “ So, just how big is the disc anyway?” MICHELLE VINAGRE: ‘ ‘If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything. John, thanks for all your support. Love you!!”

THE CLASS OF 1996 KEITH ANDREWS: “ O air-born voice long since, severely clear: Resolve to be thyself; and know that he who finds himself loses his misery. SHANE GALAN: “ Uhhh! Dr. Hanley, I didn’t drop only one slide.” IVO HORAK: “ I tried phone sex and it gave me an ear infection.” SHARI COHEN: “ Although these past four years were difficult, it was all worth it in the end.” PA UL VU: ‘‘The road to the City of Emeralds is paved with hundred dollar bricks.’’ PAT LAU: “ Guys, I’m hungry.” LAM DAO: “ Whenever something goes wrong with a computer, 99.99% of the time it is caused by human error.” LAURA MILNER: “ It’s just north of Lake Huron.” MIKE DEMEO: “ Even though it was torturous, I’ll miss it. I’ll miss the crew of the USS Kelton and all the close friends I’ve made along the way. I hope everyone will stay in touch and that all will have a suc cessful career, then all we’ve gone through will suddenly become worthwhile.” CHERYL SIMONEAU: “ Getting an education is only half the trip of becoming successful, its being responsible and dedication to your dreams that will take you there.” COLIN CHEWTER: “ It is when you don’t know you don’t know.” TRACEY BOSS: “ Teamwork is the catalyst that yields excellence from shared strengths, so lets keep in touch.” PAULA TING: “ That paper’s due tomorrow???” CAROL FARRAR: ‘‘Get over it!” r , DEB VALLIERES: “ May all under the heavens have love, respect, equality and P e a c e -”

VOLLEYBALL

The volleyball season proved to be a good escape from winter’s academic warfare. There were highs and lows of the eight week season. The highs included a good excuse for a midweek celebration and a second place finish in the championship tournament. The lows included two season ending in juries to roommates Paul Vu and Brad Gollinger.

THE CLASS OF 1996 YEARBOOK EDITORS

Hi gang. The organization and construction of this yearbook has been a long series of deadlines, badgering, cutting, pasting and occasional bad language. The creative thought processes of the yearbook staff were stretched to the limit and all efforts were made to include everyone in the yearbook. Actually, some classmates appear more times in the yearbook than they ever did for classes. The long haul experienced by each classmate to get to this point in time was filled with trials, tribulations, friendship and memories. The trials and tribulations we’d all rather forget so the idea of the yearbook is to capture the friendship and memories of life in Optometry school. Ten years from now everyone will most likely be caught up in their own lives of spouses, families, kids, carpools, and mortgages. But every now and then you can pull the book off the shelf, dust off the cover and relive the old days. Enjoy and always remember! The yearbook staff would like to take a few moments to thank all the people who helped with the yearbook. Without their support, this yearbook would never have been finished by the deadline. Thanks to Jason Kaminski, John Rathjens, Karen Grucci and Karen Eng for some great pictures. Thanks to Elaine Pelletier for photography efforts. Thanks to Steve Planchet for sarcastic and comical copy. Special thanks to Michelle Bouchard who surrendered many hours to the slavery of cutting, cropping and layouts but who never quite got the hang of copy. Thanks to Sherri Magill for her moral support and the pages she layed out that We didn’t end up using. And last, but certainly not least, extra thanks to Sharon’s mom, Julie Nicholson, for all the hours of typing, motivation and supply of grub for the troops. Thanks again everyone! SHARON MAGILL and MATT ALPERT
