The 2023 season brought a new event for the Nebraska Section PGA with the Harris Golf Cars Pro/Pro event at River Wilds Golf Club. 16 duos of Nebraska PGA Professionals teamed up to compete in the two-person shamble with the best of two scores counting each hole. In addition, there was a blind draw ahead of the event that randomly paired twosomes together to form teams of four in which they competed in a shamble while counting two total balls.

The 2023 Fall Meeting, presented by All Star Pro Golf and Harris Golf Cars, was held on Monday, October 23rd at Champions Run. More than 100 Nebraska PGA Members came together for a day that featured our partners, season recaps, committee reports and more. We were excited to host the PGA of America’s newly hired COO Craig Kessler to his first Nebraska PGA meeting!

Dear Nebraska Section PGA, I hope you are all having a good Fall season and starting to look at the Holidays and spending some time with your families. It has been another busy season with events and play so I hope you get some time over the next few months to recharge your batteries for 2024. As we transition into the off season, it is a great chance to start planning for next year and review your programming. It is always important to keep evolving as a PGA Professional and trying something new to grow the game for your customers and members. I will be attending the PGA Annual meeting down in Frisco, Texas at the new home of the PGA of American along with your officers the first week of November and will be wrapping up my term as your District Director. Joel Burger, PGA from the Minnesota PGA Section will be taking my place as he will be sworn in at the Annual meeting. I wanted to highlight a couple topics that you will be hearing about over the next couple months: -Our Mountain & Midwest Regional team has put together a fantastic educational series over the Winter months and it is a great opportunity to learn and capture some PDR’s in Education. Make sure you follow the newsletter updates on the dates and how to sign up. A few of the topics will be Social Media and Branding for clubs/individuals (November 15th), Business value of Teaching (December 6th), HP 101 Everything I wish I knew (January 10th), Recruiting and Training Talent (February 14th), GM 101 Everything I wish I knew (March 13th) and Business finance for Golf Professionals (April 3rd). -Since the most recent Ryder Cup in Rome, the PGA of America Board has launched a new branding campaign for our association called “We Love this Game”. You may have seen the 30 second spot during the Ryder Cup and our new digital logo that will be used for social media. Combining a brand re-fresh with an education/awareness/emotional campaign to help the public to better understand the role the 29,000 PGA of American Golf Professionals play in increasing demand for our game and making golf more enjoyable for countless people in every community is an opportunity the board wanted to leverage. We want to make sure the public understands that PGA of America Golf Professionals are the most passionate and committed group about the game they love. Please watch for more content as we start 2024 and I’m excited to see our team at National tell our story. This is my last article for the section newsletter since my role in this position is ending the first week of November. I would like to deeply thank the Nebraska PGA Section staff led by our Executive Director David Honnens, PGA. They are truly the best in the country, and they have been so helpful to me over the past 4 years. I would also like to thank the officers of the section who donate so much of their time to give back to the association. It has been an honor to serve, and I hope I represented you well on the National stage…… enjoy the offseason and thank you for all you do for the game of golf! We are excited to announce the Mountain & Midwest Virtual Education Series launch. This series will be two-fold: Education Series •
Member/Associate-focused educational opportunities will be delivered once a month, on the first or second Wednesday, October through April.

The M&M Team will lead the series and be augmented by guest professionals from across the 6 M&M Sections as well as nationally recognized subject matter experts.
Associate Support Network •
Associate and supervising professional-focused membership journey/ education support meetings are delivered monthly on the third or fourth Wednesday of the month beginning in October and continuing all year.

There will be morning and afternoon sessions to allow for schedule flexibility.
•
Each session will be hosted by Sirene Blair and she will be joined by the M&M team as well as representatives from the Membership and Education departments at PGAHQ.

At the Nebraska Section PGA Fall Meeting on October 23rd, PGA REACH Nebraska had the honor of presenting the Omaha Fire Department with a check for $15,000.00. These funds were raised as part of the Birdie Bonanza fundraising event on September 11th. Donated funds will assist the Omaha Fire Department with their equipment needs. We want to invite you to support the PGA National Day of HOPE campaign – benefiting local PGA HOPE programs within our Section. As strong advocates for our Veteran community, we support our troops who are actively serving and those transitioning back to everyday life in the U.S. through PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere). Through these efforts, and with the help of our PGA Professionals, we are creating lifelong players and saving lives across the Nebraska PGA Section – the mission of PGA HOPE is to do just this and use golf as a way to enhance Veterans' physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being.
As the 2023 PGA National Day of HOPE Campaign kicks off today, we’re excited to share and celebrate PGA HOPE and our Veterans. Our team’s goal is to raise $10,000– all funds will be poured right back into our local programming which directly impacts Veterans’ lives. The campaign will begin on October 11 and conclude on November 30. In addition, at the end of the campaign, PGA REACH will match funds raised at the Section level matched dollar-for-dollar up to
$10K.

We want to thank the Hillcrest Country Club Members and the entire Professional staff for hosting this amazing event for our Veterans.
