Welcome

From the Desk of NJGT Director Joe Canny, PGA Seriously… July 15th already?!?! Hard to believe it but we are in the final week of our NJGT regular season and only two weeks away from our series on NJGT Championships. There have been many highlights this season which includes personal bests; record participation; hosting Drive, Chip & Putt and many new faces. A big thank you goes out to all of our young athletes for making this summer one of the best on the Nebraska Junior Golf Tour. Athletes – as you finish out your season please take the time to think about and thank your parents, guardians and families for all they do to support you in golf. The clubs, entry fees, time spent driving and unbelievable time spent scheduling to give you a fun and golf-filled summer is truly special and needs to be appreciated. I wish all of you a strong finish to your NJGT season and look forward to following many of you as you compete in Fall events, high school golf and more! Sincerely, Joe Canny, PGA—Junior Golf Director – NJGT (402) 730-8364 | jcanny@njgt.org

USGA Handicap System Q & A Acceptable Scores Q. What scores are acceptable for handicap posting purposes? A. Almost all scores are acceptable because of the basic premise of the USGA Handicap System™ which states that every player will try to make the best score at each hole in every round, regardless of where the round is played, and that the player will post every acceptable round for peer review. Therefore, all of the following are acceptable scores: -When at least 7 holes are played (7-12 holes are posted as a 9-hole score; 13 or more are posted as an 18-hole score) -Scores on all courses with a valid Course Rating™ and Slope Rating® -Scores in all forms of competition: match play, stroke play, and team competitions where each player play their own ball -Scores made under The Rules of Golf -Scores played under the local rule of “preferred lies” -Scores made in an area observing an active season Please visit Section 5-1 of the USGA Handicap System manual for further reference.

Tour Tips Here at GolfTEC we are excited for the upcoming NJGT Championships hosted at Quarry Oaks, Fremont Golf Club and The Field Club of Omaha! The NJGT season is made up of many shorts over many rounds but winning your division at a championship can often come down to one putt. That is why this week we are teaming up with other GolfTEC Certified Coaches to give you tips to help with putting. Patrick Nuber, PGA with tips on finding the center of the putter face for consistent distance and accuracy:

Acceleration is key in your golf swing and equally important in putting. Andy Hilts, PGA helps you develop a consist putting velocity:

At GolfTEC of Omaha we have a full indoor putting green to help you year round improve that short game. Facility Spotlight

TEAM GOLF Event – July 28, 2016 Later this month TEAM GOLF will make a visit to a Nebraska PGA Facility of the Year in Lochland Country Club. Immaculate conditions with tree lined fairways makes for a beautiful walk but challenging round if you aren’t staying in the fairway off the tee. Built in 1962 by famed golf architect David Gill; this 18hole layout just completed a golf course renovation giving golfers some of the most pure greens you will ever putt on. The golf course is great but overall facility is truly special. With a junior golf program lead by junior specialist Hank McFarland, PGA all young golfers will feel comfortable walking around the property. This private country club has been nice enough to open its doors to our young golfers and we are excited for the opportunity to visit later this month! To learn more about Lochland Country Club visit their website by clicking here. You can also take a virtual tour at http://www.lochlandcc.com/web/pages/golf but you really need to see it for yourself!

Fitness Facts PGA Sports Academy Fitness Tips

Proper Sleep Sleep is often an area overlooked when it comes to health and fitness but it is just as important as anything else you do to put yourself in a competitive advantage. This is equally true as it relates to golf. The physical and mental effort it takes to perform at your best is vital in golf and little sleep dramatically affects both. Dr. Ara Suppiah visited Golf Channel and touched on some important information. So, get your ZZZ’s!
