Welcome
From the Desk of NJGT Director Joe Canny, PGA Holy moly, you all are good!!! I have been seeing nothing but amazing golf so early this golf season. Good thing I’m running the NJGT Championships because with the way you all are playing that is the only way I’d ever get invited. As the NJGT team have been running events this year I am sure you have ran into our new NJGT Interns. This year we are lucky to have two NJGT Alum fill the intern spots and they have been doing an amazing job. If you haven’t had the chance to meet them, below is a little background on this year’s NJGT Interns. Don’t be shy next time you see them on the course. Very friendly and happy to help!
Cassie will be a Senior at Midland University in Fremont, NE. Cassie is majoring in Human Performance: Fitness and Sports Management with a compressed major in Business Marketing and a minor in coaching. So yes, Cassie does a tremendous job of time management! Cassie is also a very accomplished golfer as she plays on the Midland University Women’s Team. Cassie interned with the Nebraska Women’s Golf Association last summer and she enjoys being around all aspects of the golf industry. Cassie’s very diverse background in organizing and conducting competitions will serve her well as she will be primarily involved with helping conduct over 80 events on the Nebraska Junior Golf Tour this summer.
Trey will be a Junior at Creighton University in Omaha, NE. Trey is majoring in Finance with an emphasis in Financial planning. Trey is also an accomplished player as he is a member of the Creighton Men’s Golf team. Trey has worked at Firethorn Golf Club for a number of years where he has grown his passion for the golf industry. Interesting fact about Trey, he can do the “Spiderman” like Camilo Villegas! Trey’s tournament background will serve him well as he will help administer TEAM Golf events as well as assist with the Monday ProAm’s and Section Championships.
Sincerely, Joe Canny, PGA—Junior Golf Director – NJGT (402) 730-8364 | jcanny@njgt.org

USGA Handicap System Q & A Q. Can a score from a round played alone be posted? Are there any exceptions? A. Playing an entire round alone/unaccompanied doesn’t meet the definition of "peer review," which is essentially having a reasonable and regular opportunity to play golf with others and the ability to form a reasonable basis for supporting or disputing a score that has been posted. These scores are unacceptable. It’s not considered playing alone when a player is accompanied during the round (e.g., fellow competitor, opponent, caddie, marker for a tournament, friend riding in golf cart). (Note: a player does not need to have a scorecard attested to verify it was an accompanied round.) To clarify the exceptions, the player must be accompanied for at least seven holes to have an acceptable nine-hole score to post, or 13 holes for an 18-hole score. (This aligns with the “Scores to Post” procedure, here.) For the few holes played alone, the player would post according to “par plus” any handicap strokes the player may be entitled to receive (e.g., a player with a Course Handicap™ of 18 plays a par 4 alone so the score is “X-5.”). This usually occurs when a player starts or finishes a round alone—e.g., a player joins a group or a player forges ahead solo despite weather/lack of daylight, etc. By not posting scores from solo rounds, peer review is strengthened, adding to the integrity to the USGA Handicap System™, and the value of a player’s Handicap Index®. Please visit Section 5-1 of the USGA Handicap System manual for further reference.

Tour Tips Here in Nebraska we have to deal with a variety of conditions which can make golf more difficult. This paired with the pressure of playing in tournaments can lead to some squirrely shots. Solid contact is extremely important for all shots but it can be especially crucial in abnormal conditions when a slight miss-hit can turn in to major curve on your shots. Here are a few drills from our GolfTEC Colleagues which can help you develop more solid contact. Andy Hilts shows us the Divot Drill:

Fitness Facts PGA Sports Academy Fitness Tips
Playing Your Best Golf Begins with Staying Properly Hydrated Why staying hydrated benefits your golf game:
Provides clarity in the decision-making process Improves your level of patience, which is CRUCIAL! Allows you to feel as mentally and physically energized as you did when you started your round
What happens when you don’t stay adequately hydrated?
Impaired judgment Increased irritability Decreased ability to consistently hit solid golf shots
Other physical benefits from staying hydrated:
Cools the body through sweating Reduces fatigue Reduces the chance of diseases Aids in the production of muscle growth
How much water should you drink and when?
Generally speaking, it is advised that you drink at least 8oz. of water each hour you are awake Furthermore, it is recommended that during prolonged bouts of exercise, such as golf, that an individual consume at least 12oz. of water each hour of exercise Keep in mind that heat isn’t the only thing that dehydrates your body; cold conditions, as well as high winds, dehydrate you at the same rate that heat does
Don’t allow your hard-work and preparation to be wasted by not properly hydrating your body. This message brought to you by your current 2016 Nebraska PGA Section Intern, Trey J. Petitt Source: Todd Marsh Fitness http://toddmarshfitness.com/hydration/
