Dear Nebraska PGA Members & Associates: I hope everything is good in your world as we transition to the end of Summer and start looking at Fall golf! I know it’s been another busy season and it’s important to be planning for your Fall staff as school starts and we start losing some key people in our operations. Word of mouth between existing staff is always a great recruitment tool to use and maybe incentivizing them in some way to help. Networking with each other is another way to share staff or get any leads on what the work force might look like as we go into the last few months of the season. August is going to be a big month for our new home in Frisco, TX and all the National committees as we celebrate the grand opening of our headquarters building at PGA Frisco. The staff has been on property since mid-June, but this will be the first time inside the building for many of the Board members and committee members of the PGA. The entire first floor is dedicated to education, so they have already been holding Associate level education over the past couple months and I have been hearing great reviews! The staff is hard at work hiring management people for the golf courses and teaching center plus working with many OEM’s in the golf world to provide the latest in technology and equipment on the property. The entire property is still on schedule to be open early Spring of 2023 with the Senior PGA Championship being held in May. This is an election year for National Secretary and wanted to mention that Tony Martinez, PGA has taken his name off the ballot so there are two PGA Professionals remaining for the vote at the National meeting in November. The Nebraska Section will be supporting Nathan Charnes, PGA as he attempts to be the next Secretary of the PGA of America so, please reach out to me or any of your officers if you want to learn more about Nathan. I had the opportunity to serve on the board with Nathan for two years so can share my experience regarding his leadership qualities. The national officers and staff are in the process of hiring a new COO for the PGA of America who will be working directly with the staff at headquarters down in Frisco. They are currently creating the job specifics and working with a search firm to have someone in place by the end of the year.

In closing I’d like to welcome and congratulate Kevin Drew, PGA as our new Career Consultant for the Iowa and Nebraska sections. He will be a great asset as we go into the off season and look at recruitment, retention, and job opportunities in the golf business. The Minnesota PGA section has selected their replacement for my position on the National board. Joel Burger, PGA will be shadowing me in 2023 and will step into the role as District 8 director next November. Congratulations to Joel and I’m looking forward to working with him in the future. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to serve you for District 8 and please let me know if you ever have any questions or concerns. Sincerely, Greg Neujahr, PGA District 8 Director PAGE 12  Nebraska PGA News  July 2022

By Matt Adams Big and lantern-jawed, Shawn Donald is the kind of guy a movie director casts when looking for a stereotypical Marine. After enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, Donald rode that image to his station at the Marine Corps Barracks in Washington, D.C., where he was a “Hollywood Marine” for a few years, appearing in full dress at diplomatic receptions and presidential appearances in the nation’s capital. The Marine Corps was and is an important part of Donald’s life, but it also changed him, he says, in profound ways. And he’s only recently begun getting back to who he was before the military, with golf aiding in that journey. Continue Reading…..

National Car Rental PGA Jr. League Nebraska Section Championship Qualifier was Held at Fremont GC on Monday, July 25th Sixteen All-Star teams of junior golfers competed for the opportunity to advance to the Section Championship FREMONT, Nebraska (July 25, 2022) – Fremont GC hosted the National Car Rental PGA Jr. League Nebraska Section Championship Qualifier, with sixteen All-Star teams of junior golfers ages 13 and under and their families meeting for a fun and exciting day of competition. Section Qualifiers and Championships are the first of three phases in the National Car Rental PGA Jr. League Championship Season, which highlights the aspirational nature of competition celebrated in a way unique to PGA Jr. League. The event at Fremont GC was a 9-hole scramble stroke play qualifier in which each of the sixteen all-star teams were broken into four two-person scramble teams. Eight teams competed in an 8am shotgun and eight teams competed in a 12pm shotgun. Three/four best pair scores for each team were counted for the team total score. There were two flights (the front 9 from the 8am and 12pm waves combined and the back 9 from the 8am and 12pm waves combined) in which the best two scores from each flight advanced to the Section Championship, which will be held on Saturday, August 13th at The Club at Indian Creek. The four teams who advanced to the 2022 Nebraska PGA Jr. League Section Championship are the Eastern Nebraska All-Stars, Spencer Golf & Country Club All-Stars, Greater Siouxland All-Stars and Lincoln Big Red All-Stars. The official results are below. Following recreational play in the spring and summer, hundreds of 13u All-Star teams (boys and girls ages 10-13) and 17u All-Star teams (boys and girls ages 14-17), are formed from a combination of players in each league. Section Champions from both age divisions advance to the Regional stage of competition at one of 12 sites in September. Ultimately, twelve 13u Regional champions will vie for the title at the National Car Rental PGA Jr. League Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, Oct. 5-9, to be broadcasted live on select ESPN networks.
