Welcome
Letter from NGJT Director Joe Canny, PGA I can’t believe the season is already coming to an end. We just got started two short months ago and we only have one more week of events. As we begin to conclude our season I would like to thank everyone for their participation in 2013. We appreciate the dedication and sportsmanship of our young athletes who make this tour so fun and rewarding. It is also important to thank the other people who make golf possible for our tour members. NJGT Members – make sure to take the time to thank everyone in your community who takes the time and energy which allows you to play golf each summer. We are all very fortunate to live in a country where we have the opportunity to pursue our passions, dreams and goals. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, golf coaches, golf professionals and friends do so much for us and our golf games. So make sure to thank Mom for purchasing golf equipment, Dad for driving you to the golf course, your golf pro for spending time with you on the range, Grandpa for introducing you to this great game and anyone else who has helped you along the way. Again, I appreciate you all for a wonderful summer and see you at a NJGT event soon! Joe Canny, PGA Junior Golf Director – NJGT jcanny@njgt.org (402) 730-8364
Who is leading the race for the Sandhills?
With the points race for the Sand Hills complete all that is left to decide is our overall NJGT Player of the Year. Much like the NJGT Tour Championship, the NJGT Player of the Year will be determined by points. However, the NJGT Player of the Year is based on point standings through the last event on July 31st. To get daily updates and point breakdowns for Farmers Mutual Regular Events and GolfTEC Premier Events, visit NJGT.org.

Fitness Facts Presented by The PGA Sports Academy powered by UnitedHealthcare
Play
We are in the heat of summer so it is important to stay hydrated! Not only is it good for your health but it is also great for your game. Did you know that dehydration causes a 10% decrease in performance. That means that your 150 yard shot over water now only flies 135 yards and you are in the hazard. A good rule of thumb is to drink one water bottle every three holes.
Practice
Practice can sometimes feel like a chore. That is why it is a good idea to introduce games and other fun activities to keep things interesting while improving your game. The PGA Sports Academy not only offers great fitness and nutrition tips, it also features fun golf activities to help take your game to the next level. Here are some of the featured games:
Risk Reward Putting
Go Low Chipping
Wedge Distance Game Remember, golf is a game to be enjoyed. Go out there and
make practice fun!
To find a PGA Sports Academy program near you, visit PlayGolfAmerica.com.
Introduced in 2011, TEE IT FORWARD is a joint initiative between the USGA and The PGA of America that encourages players to play from a set of tees best suited to their driving distance. In addition to providing more enjoyment for golfers, teeing it forward also can be one of the most important steps that golfers take in improving pace of play. Learn more HERE, and we hope that you give it a try. You'll have more fun and your rounds will take less time to play. Also check out the new Club Calculator which allows you to find the perfect set of tees for you! And make sure to sign the Pace of Play Pledge. 14

FORE! Application Available The Nebraska Golf Association created the FORE! Program last summer as a way for junior golfers to play more frequently. This year we have continued the program and expanded to Grand Island, Kearney, Lincoln and Norfolk. Golfers ages 7-17 are welcome to join and will be classified as either “Full Access” or “Supervised Access” members based on age and/or playing ability. The membership cost is $10 for the months of June, July and August. Members will receive a FORE! card in the mail, which they will use every time they play at one of the selected courses. Each time they play, the member will have to notify the golf course that they are a FORE! member and they can play for $4. In order to become a member, an applicant must be a member of one of the following: First Tee Programs, Great Golf Expectations Program, PGA of America Boys & Girls Clubs of America Golf Program, NGF's Youth on Course, Junior Golf Programs at NGA Member Clubs or Host Facilities, LPGA/USGA Girls Golf Programs, Nebraska Junior Golf Tour, Panhandle Junior Golf Tour or High School Golf Teams. As someone who is involved in one of these programs, we are asking for your help in increasing awareness about the program. Please mention this information to any juniors golfers who you think might be interested in joining the FORE! program. If you have any questions you can visit http://www.nebgolf.org/juniorgolf_fore.html or call Connor of the NGA at 402-505-4653 ext. 105.
