Dale Howard Giebler was born in Fremont, NE on August 3 1934 to James “Harry” and Florence (Grob) Giebler. He was the fourth of five children. His love of golf started early in life, on the family acreage adjoining The Fremont Country Club where his dad was the greenskeeper. He attended Fremont High School where he played on the Golf Team and graduated with the class of ’52. After high school he attended college courses at Midland College. Then he decided to enlist in the army to serve his country in Korea. He was following a long family tradition of service, his dad in WWI, brother Loren in WWII and others dating back to the Revolutionary War. Dale loved his country and was proud to serve. When he returned home after his tour of duty, Dale tried a stint in banking at the Omaha Stockyard National Bank. His love story began during this time. He met Linda Kull through friends at Peterson’s Café in Fremont and started dating the next week. Ten months later they were married on May 2, 1959. They lived in Fremont when they had their first two children, Lauri and Eric. They purchased their first home and moved to Millard when Dale took a job at Western Electric and had baby number three, Tyrone. At Western Electric he became known as “Buffalo”. He joined the family up as members at a new golf course in Ashland to share and continue his love of golf. Ashland Country Club was new and needed a golf pro. When Dale started offering guidance based on his experience in the golf world they offered him the position. Dale accepted and began the career of his life. His first order of business was to become a PGA professional. He signed up for the program and became a member of the PGA in June of 1974. He grew the membership and added a second nine holes during his career of 30 years. One of his greatest highlights in golf was playing at Augusta National while at a PGA convention in Georgia. He made a lot of great friends and formed lifelong relationships within his golf community. He taught his wife and children the game of golf and introduced it to his five grandchildren. He retired from Ashland Country Club in 1996. Dale was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s several months before his death. He lived a full and active life until that time. Linda cared lovingly, tirelessly and courageously for him at home until he left this earth. As a believer in Jesus Christ his Savior we know we will reunite with him in heaven and who knows maybe even get a few rounds in with him. Hit ‘em straight Buffalo.

For the second consecutive year, Patriot Golf Days will be held over Memorial Day weekend (May 27-30) as a way to further honor our nation’s heroes. PGA REACH, the 501(c)3 charitable foundation of the PGA of America, and Folds of Honor, a nonprofit that provides educational scholarships to spouses and children of fallen or disabled service members, will jointly host the nationwide annual fundraiser. The two organizations will help PGA Members and golf facilities put on fundraising efforts throughout the weekend. PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) introduces golf to Veterans to enhance their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being. The program includes a six-to-eight-week golf instruction curriculum taught by PGA Professionals trained in adaptive golf and military cultural competency. PGA LEAD is the Association’s leadership development program, created to identify, mentor and develop PGA Members from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds into volunteer leadership positions within Association governance. Through PGA LEAD, PGA Members are prepared for those positions at the Chapter, Section and National levels. PGA LEAD also helps PGA Members who have a desire to serve and make an impact on nonprofit boards within the communities where they work and live.

PGA REACH, the 501(c)3 foundation of PGA of America, has established a scholarship program to assist students intent on pursuing PGA of America Membership. These $8,000 scholarships are designed to improve the recruitment and retention of talented and motivated students from diverse backgrounds, who are pursuing PGA Membership through PGA Golf Management University Programs nationwide. Applicants to the PGA WORKS Golf Management University Scholarship Program must be: •

High school seniors or graduates or current postsecondary undergraduates. An intentional focus is placed on engaging a diverse demographic of participants, but all are welcome to apply. Plan to enroll in fulltime undergraduate study at one of the 17 accredited PGA Golf Management Universities pursuing a PGA Golf Management degree for the entire 2022-2023 academic year, with the intent to pursue PGA of America Membership

Dear Nebraska Section Members and Associates, Welcome to February and a big planning month for all of us in the golf business. Hopefully, you have been able to firm up your staff for the 2022 season and please reach out to our PGA Career Consultant Jacque Madison at jmadison@pgqhq.com if you need some assistance. The University at Lincoln PGM program is also a great resource as many students are looking for internships for either 3 month or 6 month time frames. Couple updates and news from the National PGA: -I just returned from the PGA show and it was good to get together face to face to exchange ideas and catch up on what has been happening. The past two years have been extremely busy for all of us in the golf industry and it is a true credit to all the PGA Professionals for guiding golf through the pandemic. (Nebraska had 33 professionals attend the show) The show was smaller in size with fewer vendors and less attendees, but business was still being written. Many of the hard good vendors chose not to attend but there were many soft good and smaller companies represented. Many of those smaller vendors thought they were actually busier than in the past since the large companies were not in attendance. It sounds like the larger club companies have signed contracts for next year so I feel the show will be back bigger than ever next year. This is also an election year, so it was a great chance for all the officers of each section to meet and greet the candidates. There was a town hall forum and candidate Q and A on Thursday of the show week and were both well attended. Running for national secretary this year are Nathan Charnes, PGA of the Gateway Section, Dan Pasternak, PGA of the New Jersey Section and Tony Martinez, PGA of the North Texas Section. -Mark your calendar for Patriot Golf Day which will be held over Memorial Day weekend in 2022. This is a partnership between Folds of Honor and PGA Hope which both help Veterans and military families. All money that is raised will directly benefit individuals and families in the community and PGA Section where it is raised and provide financial resources for Folds of Honor academic scholarships and PGA Hope programs. Sign up at patriotgolfdays.com. -PGA Frisco and the new home of the PGA of America continues to rise out of the ground down in Texas. It looks like the building will be finished and open towards the end of April with the first floor opening the first part of March. Education for Level 2 and Level 3 in the Associates program will start May 9th! The plan is to have the entire property open early next Spring and be ready for the Senior PGA Championship in May of 2023.
