AUSTIN, TX – APRIL 17: Ryan Vermeer hits his shot from the fifth tee during the first round of the 54th PGA Professional Championship at the Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa on April 17, 2022 in Austin, Texas. (Photo by Darren Carroll/ PGA of America) Austin, TX – Presented by Cadillac, Club Car and Rolex, the 2022 PGA Professional Championship took place these past four days at Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas with seven Nebraska PGA Professionals competing in the field. Featuring 312 of the best playing PGA Professionals across the country, all seven Nebraskans finished in the top half of the field with one finishing in the top five. Qualifying for his fifth PGA Championship as part of the PGA of America’s Team of 20, Ryan Vermeer, PGA of Happy Hollow Club finished tied for fourth with rounds of 66, 69, 71 and 73 to card a four-day total of 4under-par (206). Vermeer’s experience showed down the stretch by playing around par with conditions making a tough golf course, even tougher. Vermeer will tee it up at Southern Hills Country Club at the PGA Championship, the PGA Tour’s next major. Playing alongside Vermeer this week was Jay Cottam, PGA of Meadowlark Hills Golf Course, Steve Friesen, PGA of Firethorn Golf Club, Ted DiGiacomo, PGA of Golf Galaxy Omaha, Nick Wanderscheid, PGA of Morningside University, Judd Cornell, PGA of The Players Club and Nick Shanahan, PGA of Shadow Ridge CC. The group qualified through our Nebraska Section PGA Professional Championship this past August at Champions Run Omaha. In his first run with the national championship, Cottam began with rounds of 67 and 75 to sit at 1-over-par which was good enough to make the first cut. In his third round, he carded another 75 (+4) and missed the final cut by one stroke. DiGiacomo and Wanderscheid narrowly missed the first cut by just one. The 2022 PGA Championship will tee of Thursday, May 19th and the Omaha native will look to make his second career cut at the event. Spring is here and golf is in full force as we start a new golf season! I know the weather has not been the best so hopefully the month of May we start to catch up on rounds and revenue at all our facilities. The open and dry Winter did not help turf conditions as we watch for the “green up” of the courses. The importance of communicating with your golf course superintendent is more important than ever as we all need to educate our customers and golfers to protect the course. The championship season is in full force as the PGA Professional Championship wrapped up last month at Omni Barton Creek in Austin, Texas and we turn our attention to the PGA Championship at Southern Hills CC in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The low 20 scorers at Barton Creek earned the right to tee it up at Southern Hills this month serving as our Team of 20 – representing the Association at the highest level of competitive play. This is such a wonderful opportunity to showcase our PGA Professionals with the broadcast being live on TV and telling the benefits of our profession. Best of luck to those playing and representing us at the PGA Championship! I hope you have a chance to make the short 6-hour drive down to Tulsa to watch the tournament this year. The Championship team led by Kerry Haigh always puts on a great show and they work hard to make the viewing experience memorable for all members attending. PGA of America members, Associates and PGM University Students, their accompanying spouse/ partner OR guest (limit 1), immediate children under 21 years of age, parents and parents-inlaw will receive complimentary access to the tournament. Tickets will provide access to the grounds at Southern Hills and the PGA member club venue adjacent to the Practice Range. New in 2022, these daily tickets will include complimentary food and non-alcoholic beverages at all on-course concession venues. PGA Frisco and our new headquarters continues to move along as the property evolves and different projects are completed. The headquarters building should be opening this month as staff start to move into the office area and the first education component for the Associate program is held on the first floor of the building. We are excited to see how the vision of this building comes together and feel it will be a home for the PGA Professional that you will want to visit. Thank you for letting me serve as your District 8 director and represent the three great sections of Iowa, Minnesota, and Nebraska. My term on the board will conclude at the end of 2023 so it will be Minnesota’s turn to have someone in my seat. They will be electing my replacement this Fall and will shadow me my final year on the board. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns that are happening on a national level. Have a great start to your season! Sincerely, Greg Neujahr, PGA District 8 Director PAGE 8 Nebraska PGA News April 2022

We have a shared objective to establish Patriot Golf Days as the unified way for the golf world to honor our returning military heroes and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom by providing financial resources for Folds of Honor academic scholarships and PGA HOPE programs. The more money we raise together, the more we can have an impact on veterans and military families. Silent Auction
Every year, since the inception of our foundation, the Nebraska PGA hosts a fundraising Pro-Am for PGA REACH Nebraska. We are excited to announce that in 2022 we will be adding an additional fundraising event in Kearney, NE. PGA REACH Nebraska continues to be passionate about changing lives through the game of golf and we are striving to improve our efforts every year. In order to continue doing this, we need your support. As part of these fundraising events, we incorporate a silent auction to help raise additional funds. We cannot do this without the help of our generous Membership and Sales Representatives. We are looking for golf experiences/packages, golf hard goods, soft goods or anything else that you think would be fun and creative. We are seeking to receive TWO packages from all of you willing to donate! If you have anything to donate, please reach out to Renee Tyson by Wednesday, June 1st at rtyson@pgahq.com as we will need these items in hand by Friday, June 6th. Feel free to bring any items to any Section Tournaments if that is convenient for you.
