Welcome

From the Desk of NGJT Director Joe Canny, PGA June 15th and the summer is in full swing! This time of year we are balancing numerous sports, family vacations and so much more that it can be hard to keep things straight. With all that is going on it can be easy to miss a deadline for the Nebraska Junior Golf Tour. That is why this month I thought it’d be best to highlight the procedures for late registration. First off we are happy to add players after the deadline but only if there is a spot open in their respective division. If there is an opening in the division all registrations after the deadline must be accompanied by a paper event registration form. This form can be found on our website by clicking HERE. A registration cannot be completed without this form. If there is not a spot open we also can place a player on a waitlist to be contacted in case of the withdraw of another player in the same division. No players are able to be added to an event within three days of the event. This gives the Site Director, Facility and myself time to prepare all the materials and software for the tournament. Hopefully this information can help as we move into the heart of our junior golf season. Make sure you do have fun this summer and enjoy all our area has to offer for summer activities. Well-rounded athletes make the best golfers so we encourage participation in a variety of activities! Thank you and see you at an event soon!

Sincerely, Joe Canny, PGA Junior Golf Director – NJGT (402) 730-8364 jcanny@njgt.org

The 20th annual PGA Junior Series continues to provide global and national exposure for each of the 156+ player fields. Each event is Nationally Ranked in the GOLFWEEK/Sagarin Performance Index, Junior Golf Scoreboard and the World Golf Amateur Rankings. Approximately one-half of the participants in each field are from the host-state and one-half are from outside the host-state. The boy's 15-18 winner and overall girl's champion will earn exemptions into the Junior PGA Championship at Miramont Country Club in Bryan/College Station, Texas on August 3-6, 2015. Since its establishment in 1996, the PGA Junior Series has been a stepping stone for PGA and LPGA stars such as Hunter Mahan, Sean O'Hair, Jason Day, Amelia Lewis, Luke Guthrie, Jennifer Johnson and Justin Thomas. The Series has conducted 198 events in 41 states. Boys and girls ages 12-18 have participated from six continents, 30 countries and all 50 states with an average participation rate of 20 states per event. The Series is conducted from coast to coast across the U.S. from May to August. The mission of the PGA Junior Series and Junior PGA Championship is to promote the enjoyment of golf by junior golfers through affordable and competitive playing opportunities in professionally supervised events organized by The PGA of America and supported by PGA Professionals. With no membership fee and professionally run national junior events the PGA Junior Series is the cost effective road to college golf. 10

Now that our NJGT Tournament Season is underway and many of you will be competing it is a good time to say thank you to all we have worked with this season. We are looking forward to seeing how you play in the regular season tournaments and especially at the GolfTEC Premier Series. To help you all on your journey throughout the season here are a few reminders to help you along the way:

‘s Tour Tips

Play to Your Strengths When you are playing in tournaments it is important for you to hit shots that you are comfortable with as opposed to hitting a shot that you rarely practice or do not have a good chance of executing. Although it’s not always the exciting strategy playing it safe will save you strokes and keep you from the high numbers on your scorecard. Use Your Practice Time Wisely The quickest way to shave strokes off of your round is to eliminate extra putts, chips and pitches. Use most of your practice time on the short game area or putting green. The more fun route is to pull the driver out on the range for a half hour and see how far you hit it but your score will come down by spending more time on the short game area and a shorter amount of time on the range tee. Keep a Pre-Shot Routine It is always important to have a pre-shot routine when playing golf but in tournaments it can be the hardest thing to keep steady. When you play golf with people you don’t know or just being in tournament atmosphere sometimes nerves can be a factor. Staying true to a pre-shot routine can help calm your nerves and keep you focused on the shot at hand. If you need assistance with your game make sure to stop by and visit our PGA Professionals and GolfTEC Certified instructors. To Learn more about GolfTEC of Omaha, Click HERE

New for 2015 on the NJGT Schedule is Beatrice Country Club. This championship layout features tree lined fairways, undulating greens and pristine course conditions. Beatrice Country Club has played host to many championships for the Beatrice, Nebraska Nebraska Golf Association and Nebraska PGA and we are very fortunate to feature it as one of our host facilities for 2015. Beatrice Country Club offers so many great golf holes; it’s even difficult to select a signature one. Regardless of which nine you start on you will be faced with starting holes that feature tight landing areas requiring accurate drives. As you work through each nine you will encounter natural terrain, beautiful lakes and elevation changes that make the round as challenging as it is enjoyable. Beatrice Country Club will host the NJGT on July 13th and we look forward to seeing you there!

Fitness Facts PGA Sports Academy Fitness Tips We are entering the heat of the season and now is a great time to remind all participants and parents about the importance of staying hydrated. Walking on a golf course for 4 ½ hours while carrying a 25 pound bag can lead to dehydration which will affect your golf game and potentially much worse. Even minor dehydration leads to loss off distance, accuracy and hand-eye coordination. Here are a few tips to keep you hydrated on the course:   

3 ounces of non-caffeinated liquid every hole More on an extremely hot and humid day Once you have become thirsty you are likely already dehydrated. Stay ahead of the game to avoid being thirsty! Water and Gatorade are great choices for hydration. If water is your choice be sure to also include some salty snacks like pretzels or nuts Sweat contains high concentrations of sodium and needs replenished Hydration starts long before your round. Drink plenty of fluids the day before and morning of your event

Hopefully these easy to follow tips can keep you playing sharp and walking upright this NJGT Season!
