From the Desk of NGJT Director Joe Canny, PGA June 1st, first day of events! Very excited to get this season underway and fun to be out at Indianhead Golf Course for one of the two season kickoff events. Now that the season is underway I figured it might be a great time to highlight what is new for 2015. 

GolfTEC Premier Events We have two new courses added to the schedule which will make up half of our GolfTEC Premier Championship Series. Norfolk Country Club and Ashland Country Club are both beautiful courses which will provide all golfers pristine course conditions and the challenge required of a championship.



NJGT TEAM GOLF Presented By Five Points Bank Events The TEAM GOLF schedule has expanded dramatically with the addition of events at great venues such as Shoreline, Lochland Country Club, Floyd Park GC, Riverside Golf Club, Knolls Golf Course, Hidden Valley, Hillcrest of Yankton, Dodge Riverside, Wilderness Ridge and Tara Hills.



NJGT Championships I am beyond thrilled with this year’s NJGT Championship locations. The 18-hole division will compete at Omaha Country Club, site of the 2013 US Senior Open. The 9-hole division will be contested at The Field Club of Omaha, one of our state’s most historic sites.



Points With great championship sites comes a highly contested points race. Points are earned at all events including: -Farmers Mutual of Nebraska Regular Season Events = Standard Points -GolfTEC Premier Events = Double Points -Central Nebraska Junior Amateur presented by Five Points Bank = 1.5x Points

Race to Omaha Country Club This year’s 18-hole division NJGT Championship presented by Stonehouse Golf Collections will be hosted at Omaha Country Club, site of the 2013 US Senior Open. The course, redesigned by Perry Maxwell, sits among the nation’s finest private clubs including Augusta National, Prairie Dunes, Southern Hills and Colonial – all of which are Maxwell designs. The top point winners in each division as of July 23rd will earn their spot in the field for this majestic golf course. Invitation numbers will be posted on the points page of NJGT.org on July 1st. Race to The Field Club of Omaha The 9-hole division championship presented by Stonehouse Golf Collections will be hosted at The Field Club of Omaha for 2015. The oldest country club west of the Mississippi River, historic Field Club was the site of the 1941 US Amateur Championship as well as the home course for Nebraska legend Johnny Goodman. This tree-lined course will be the perfect ending to what looks to be another great season. Golfers will earn points through July 23rd which will position them for an invite to the NJGT Championship. Invitation figures will be posted on the points page of NJGT.org on July 1st. TEAM GOLF Leaderboard Often called Nebraska’s Home for Junior Golf, Fremont Golf Club is the host of the 2015 NJGT TEAM GOLF Championship. A 16-team field of our top TEAM GOLF teams will compete in a pooled competition ending in a round robin championship for the coveted NJGT TEAM GOLF Championship Belt. Acceptable Scores Q. What scores are acceptable for handicap posting purposes? A. Almost all scores are acceptable because of the basic premise of the USGA Handicap System™ which states that every player will try to make the best score at each hole in every round, regardless of where the round is played, and that the player will post every acceptable round for peer review. Therefore, all of the following are acceptable scores: 

When at least seven holes are played (7-12 holes are posted as a 9-hole score; 13 or more are posted as an 18-hole score)

Scores on all courses with a valid Course Rating™ and Slope Rating®

The 20th annual PGA Junior Series continues to provide global and national exposure for each of the 156+ player fields. Each event is Nationally Ranked in the GOLFWEEK/Sagarin Performance Index, Junior Golf Scoreboard and the World Golf Amateur Rankings. Approximately one-half of the participants in each field are from the host-state and one-half are from outside the host-state. The boy's 15-18 winner and overall girl's champion will earn exemptions into the Junior PGA Championship at Miramont Country Club in Bryan/College Station, Texas on August 3-6, 2015. Since its establishment in 1996, the PGA Junior Series has been a stepping stone for PGA and LPGA stars such as Hunter Mahan, Sean O'Hair, Jason Day, Amelia Lewis, Luke Guthrie, Jennifer Johnson and Justin Thomas. The Series has conducted 198 events in 41 states. Boys and girls ages 12-18 have participated from six continents, 30 countries and all 50 states with an average participation rate of 20 states per event. The Series is conducted from coast to coast across the U.S. from May to August. The mission of the PGA Junior Series and Junior PGA Championship is to promote the enjoyment of golf by junior golfers through affordable and competitive playing opportunities in professionally supervised events organized by The PGA of America and supported by PGA Professionals. With no membership fee and professionally run national junior events the PGA Junior Series is the cost effective road to college golf. 8

The green is where championships are won and the best place to practice for quick score improvement. Though important, many young golfers find it difficult to practice for longer periods of time on the putting green. We often hear that it is “boring” so we would like to provide you with a few putting drills and games which can make putting practice more fun while also improving your game.

‘s Tour Tips

HORSE A) Played very similar to the traditional basketball game of the same name. Instead of making a basket the goal is to get the putt to stop “inside the leather” of a putter. A putt finishing within that mark counts as a make and the second putter has to match. B) If the lead-off putter fails to put the ball “inside the leather” the competitor takes over as lead-off putter just like in the basketball version of HORSE. Points Race A) Play 9 or 18-holes of golf on the putting green from makeable distances (4-10 ft.) alternating who selects the hole. B) Putts that are made are worth 1 point. C) Putts not made but past the hole are worth 0 points. D) Putts left short are -1 points. E) Highest score wins. Bango Bongo A) Play any number of set holes competing for points. Highest points wins. i. Rotate who hits the lead-off putt B) Whoever hits closest to the hole gets 1 point. C) Player who hits it in the hole first gets 1 point i. Order is very important. After leadoff shots you must play in proper order with golfer further from the hole putting first. Hopefully these games make putting practice fun while improving your short game. Bendelow, then an aspiring golf course architect and now known as one of Americaâ€™s greatest pioneers of golf course architecture, designed the golf course at Sioux City Country Club. This par 72, 18-hole golf course, ranging from 4890 to 6400 yards, designed to be challenging for all levels of players. And now the Sioux City Country Club is opening its doors to junior golfers in the NJGT! Sioux City Country Club has played host to the prestigious PGA Junior Series, the United States premier national junior golf tour. It is also personally one of my (Joe Canny, PGA) favorite golf courses in America and would strongly recommend making the short drive north. The course features tree-lined fairways, beautiful water fixtures and always ideal conditions. I promise you will love playing this golf course and the family will enjoy following along and taking in the beauty the landscape provides. It is important in golf to combine exercises which increase power with those that stretch out the muscles. Concentrating solely on one will inhibit your distance and accuracy potential or in some cases even be a detriment.
