Dear Nebraska Junior Golf Tour, It is with a heavy heart but yet, excitement for Joseph Canny, PGA, his lovely wife Stephanie and son, Calhoon that we wish them well in their next endeavor, as Joseph has accepted the Player Development Supervisor position with the City of Lincoln. In Spring of 2013, we made a calculated decision to hire Joseph to not only give the NJGT Tour a “kick-start” but also lay the ground work for TEAM Golf, YMCA PGA Sports Academy and the growth of the “FORE” card across the state. Joseph did an exceptional job of elevating junior golf in Nebraska and we will miss him. However, our commitment to you and your scholar athletes remains the same, to provide a fun, safe and rewarding junior golf experience at a very high level!

Seth Scollard, PGA

With that said, we are pleased to announce Seth Scollard, PGA will serve as the Director of the Nebraska Junior Golf Tour (NJGT) and Player Development for the Nebraska Section PGA. Originally from Ponca, Nebraska, Seth is a 2014 graduate of the PGA Golf Management Program at UNL. Seth recently served as the Co-Head Professional at Firethorn G.C. where he was very instrumental in day to day operations, TEAM Golf and tournament operations for the club. Seth is an enthusiastic PGA Professional, who is passionate about creating a fun, social and energetic atmosphere for all the programs he is associated with. Seth will work closely with the Nebraska Golf Association and Nebraska Section PGA to continue the growth of the Nebraska Junior Golf Tour. He will also be in charge of player development initiatives supported by both the Nebraska Golf Association and Nebraska Section PGA. Seth and his wife, Makenzie, who is a Kindergarten teacher enjoy golfing together, working on projects around the house and traveling throughout Nebraska to see family and friends. We look forward to having Seth in the NJGT offices starting Monday, May 22nd.

Cassie Trumbley

With the considerable growth of the Nebraska Junior Golf Tour and Team Golf we have asked Cassie Trumbley to return and serve as our new Junior Golf Coordinator for the Nebraska Junior Golf Tour. Cassie recently graduated from Midland University in Fremont, NE with a major in Human Performance – Fitness/Sports Management and a compressed major in Business Marketing and minor in Coaching. So yes, Cassie does a tremendous job of time management! Cassie will be instrumental in coordinating our summer interns and Nebraska Junior Golf Tour Site Directors to ensure we help deliver great golf experiences at over 80 junior events this summer.

Again, we are excited for the 2017 Nebraska Junior Golf Tour presented by Famers Mutual of Nebraska to get underway and we are confident the improvements to the NJGT this season will increase you and your families enjoyment in all events the NJGT offers. As a reminder to you and your families as you book golf lessons, purchase insurance, decide where to eat or select a bank, please remember those who support youth golf and athletes like yourself!

Cyber security has become headline news lately with a number of industries taking credit card information being hacked with card information being stolen. In order to ensure your credit card information is secure the PGA of America along with its’ partner organizations (NJGT) utilized Presidio Cyber Security to conduct a PCI (Payment Card Industry) compliance evaluation. To protect your financial information and privacy, we need to make some changes to the way we interact with your credit card information. At this time, the Nebraska Junior Golf Tour is establishing information handling standards related to our member and guest information, including a strict prohibition against accessing or interacting with your credit card information in any form or medium. To reduce the risk of unauthorized disclosure or loss, all credit card information must now be processed only through our event service provider – Tournament Pairing Program (TPP) Online (system you already use). How does this affect you? *We will no longer be able to accept credit/debit cards onsite, over the phone, or via email for any Section tournament or event. -This means no late registration options are available in 2017 and beyond. *All credit/debit card transactions will need to be done through Tournament Pairing Program. We know there will be a learning curve for all of us and we are happy to answer any questions that you might have on this issue. We will still be available to offer assistance in getting you registered for any tournament. Once our review and training process is complete, we will communicate any additional information to you as needed. Thank you for your patience during this transition and continued support of the Nebraska Junior Golf Tour.

PGA Sports Academy Fitness Tips Proper Preparation & Game Day Execution Summer is coming and you know what that means… warm weather! The heat presents many challenges to golf that many of us are not used to dealing with. Having success on the course during the heat all comes down to what you do to prepare and what you do on the course.

Prior to Event 

Don’t wait until you are thirsty to drink water. Drink plenty of water the days leading up to an event.

Pack properly: -Bring a towel to wipe yourself down and provide shade when needed -Bring multiple water bottles and be ready to refill -Sunblock with high SPF and re-apply

Day of Event 

Again – Drink and refill water often.

Clothing: -Hat with a bill -Shorts! -Wear breathable materials (many now have SPF and other tech which can help in heat) -Light colors -Sunglasses to protect your eyes

If you get light-headed please don’t hesitate to take a short break and sit in the shade.

My teaching philosophy is to get every player that I teach to reach their potential in golf. We start with their technique on all aspects of the game. Then we progress to how they practice their game with drills, so they are ready to play their best golf when it matters most. I love working with all kinds of different players: young, old, beginners, etc., but I'm extremely passionate about working with juniors. This is somewhat selfish because TEAM GOLF has gotten both of my daughters involved in the game. Even though youth sports take up a lot of my daughters' time it is the one thing they talk about year-round. Chad Lydiatt, PGA Professional – Coach of UNK Lopers & TEAM GOLF Lopers

USGA Handicap System Q & A USGA Course Rating™, Slope Rating®, and Bogey Rating™ Q. What is a USGA Course Rating™, Slope Rating®, and Bogey Rating™? Slope Rating®, and Bogey Rating™?

Q. What is a USGA Course Rating™,

A. Course Rating defines the USGA® mark indicating the evaluation of the playing difficulty of a course for scratch golfers under normal course and weather conditions. It is expressed as strokes taken to one decimal place, and is based on yardage and other obstacles to the extent that they affect the scoring ability of a scratch golfer. Course Rating is equivalent to the better half average of a scratch golfer’s scores under normal playing conditions. Bogey Rating is the evaluation of the playing difficulty of a course for the bogey golfer under normal course and weather conditions. It is based on yardage, effective playing length and other obstacles to the extent that they affect the scoring ability of the bogey golfer. Bogey rating is equivalent to the better half average of a bogey golfer’s scores under normal playing conditions. Slope Rating defines the USGA mark indicating the measurement of the relative difficulty of a course for nonscratch golfers compared to the Course Rating. Slope Rating is computed by the following formula: Bogey rating minus Course Rating multiplied by (5.381 men, 4.24 women) equals Slope Rating. The USGA Handicap Department has a National Course Rating and Slope Database™ consisting of ratings for all courses in the United States. Please visit Section 13 of the USGA Handicap System manual for further reference.
