Why do I want to live, work, and raise my family in this community?” This year’s affiliated fund training focuses on identifying your opportunities, imagining new possibilities and acting together to bring about the hometown of your dreams. Together, we’ll all find answers to the question: “Why here?” And together, we’ll continue to build an even greater Nebraska.
Registration Opens / Affiliated Fund Expo Area Open for Set-Up Bring your Expo display materials and set up your booth. This year’s Expo will answer the question: “How is your work creating a greater community together?” NCF affiliated funds from across the state will bring photos, campaign materials, videos, and more to tell their stories about creating a greater community. Discover the abundance of surprising possibilities and homegrown assets communities across the NCF network are using to create the hometown of their dreams.

Small towns grow big dreams. Across the state, small towns are dreaming big – about growing populations, neighbors working together, a vision people can relate to, and the charitable investment needed to pull it off. Start the day with the building blocks necessary to create an even greater community. Hear about hometowns across the state where a growing number of people who, in the 21st century, can choose to live wherever they want, are choosing right here in Greater Nebraska. Across the state, communities are discovering everything and everyone we need is right here.

Morning Breakouts: Identify Your Greatest Assets The essential role of an affiliated fund is to empower the community to be its own agent of change by identifying local assets, making the case for investing locally and, ultimately, taking action. Our Morning Breakouts focus on communities that are catalyzing change and taking control over their future. Learn how an asset-based approach can help you uncover hidden strengths, how improvement efforts are more effective and longer-lasting when community members dedicate their own time, talent, and treasure, and how an unrestricted endowment can help make dreams a reality. Breakout sessions will focus on helping you answer the question: “Endowment for what?” by offering the chance to dig into the following areas: • • • •

Lunch: Imagine a Greater Life Together, people are dreaming about the future in a way they haven’t dreamed in a long time. All across the NCF network, communities are setting big, hairy, audacious goals to build the hometowns of their dreams. Together, we’re taking risks and building a Greater Nebraska. We know that things can change. They do change. And they will change for the better if we change them, together.

Afternoon Breakouts: Act Together Community is a word with many meanings. But at its core, it’s about a sense of “knowing that I belong.” And a sense of belonging is a powerful attractor. Belonging means to feel that we are in the right place. It is to know that “I am home.” Our Afternoon Breakouts focus on the skills and behavior necessary to become better leaders and encourage a sense of belonging in others. In a rapidly changing world, successful communities have leadership that can engage diverse community members, work across difference, and create a welcoming community that invites all – whether newcomers, stayers or returners – to be in community with us. Breakout sessions will focus on how we can become better leaders and neighbors by building skills in: • Collaborating and identifying mutually beneficial outcomes • Storytelling • Making the case for investing locally • Celebrating • Turning local assets into opportunities • Engaging young people • Reaching mutual understanding • Listening, learning and doing better together

Networking Break Closing Gathering: Together a Greater Nebraska We’ll conclude affiliated fund training with an inspiring celebration of The Good Life and all that is possible when we come together.

Informal meeting spaces (with coffee!) will be available for your FAC to reconvene, discuss the day and share insights. This will be a great opportunity to sit down together and develop a quick plan for how you’ll take your learnings back home. Peer mentors and NCF staff can be invited to gather as well.
