Since 2011 the VCCFF has granted over $85,000.00 in endowment account payouts and general account funds to support youth engagement, leadership capacity, entrepreneurship and philanthropic program development and tangibles for the benefit of Valley County.

Celebrating The People of Valley County The Valley County Community Foundation Fund is honored to celebrate the people and organizations who make our hometowns a great place to live. Four awards were given by the VCCFF during the 2015 Annual Celebration. Nominees and award winners were voted on by VCCFF donors and Fund Advisory Committee Members.

Valley County is blessed with generous, passionate people who work for the greater good! The event was sponsored in partnership with the Ord Area Chamber of Commerce and Valley County Economic Development. Entertainment was provided by vocal entertainer and song writer, Susan Werner who’s album Hayseed was commissioned by the UNL Lied Center for Performing Arts-Arts Across Nebraska Program.

VCCFF Honored with Nebraska Entrepreneurship Oustanding Service Award Valley County Community Foundation Fund was honored with the 2015 Nebraska Entrepreneurship Outstanding Service Award, sponsored by Nebraska Entrepreneurship Task Force and Nebraska Enterprise Fund. This award recognizes sustained and outstanding leadership and advocacy for entrepreneurship education and business development services. VCCFF and community partners were honored for their comprehensive stepping stones approach to entrepreneurship development that ignites the entrepreneurial spirit in multi-aged youth, provides knowledge and skills and connects youth with adult entrepreneurs while advancing community growth. Nebraska Loves Public Schools featured Valley County’s effort in its recent film, Valley County-It Takes a Community, http://nelovesps.org/story/ord/.

The VCCFF supports entrepreneurship development in the Valley County region by investing over $6,000 annually in funding and staff time, initiating community/school partnerships and leveraging external resources to implement programming and opportunities. Over 125 youth are touched through the entrepreneurship development program each year.

I worked with the VCCFF advisory committee during my time with FBLA my senior year in high school. I owe much of my success and any future success to the VCCFF and FBLA. Before joining FBLA and becoming part of the VCCFF, I was very shy and not

very outgoing. I especially had a problem talking to new people, which is something I now have to do every day as part of my career.

One thing that really impacted me was sitting in on the VCCFF meetings.

I remember at the time being scared of the 'grown ups' in the meetings. Talking with them and getting to know them helped me build my people skills and learn how to talk with new people and groups. I now enjoy giving presentations and talking with new people.

Another life changing moment for me was when I was able to go to the National FBLA convention in San Antonio, Texas. I would not have been able to go had it not been for the support I received from the VCCFF and my fellow members of FBLA. The members of the VCCFF and FBLA helped fund my FBLA

Chapter’s trip, which enabled me to attend the conference. The relations I built during my time in FBLA and the lessons I learned from my experiences helped me throughout high school and college, and continue to help me and provide me with new opportunities even today.

I recently secured a position with an investment company in Omaha and I enjoy the opportunity to represent my company by working in my hometown community on a monthly basis.

Progressive Partnerships

SynoVation Valley Leadership Academy (SVLA) is launching its third academy in September 2015 with three levels of leadership development programming designed to empower and enhance personal mastery and confidence, emotional intelligence, positive psychology, leadership and followership, holistic wellness and community engagement. Over 70 community lead-

ers are engaged in the program. A corresponding youth curriculum has been implemented in the Ord and Arcadia school districts. The VCCFF is an annual sponsor of SVLA, providing $1,000 sponsorship, staff support and leveraging of grant funds from external resources.

A 2014/2015 Level 1 Graduate shared this perspective...Every aspect of SVLA has positively influenced my career. Time mastery strategies have given me a new perspective on the best way to use my time in relation to my strengths, passion and purpose.

In 2015, a powerful outcome involved SVLA change agents designing and presenting the Best Life Summit! Over thirtyfive people from across the state

joined together to explore empowering leadership concepts and connect with local entrepreneurs and SVLA participants to learn how strong leadership enhances business opportunities and quality of life.

Honoring Valley County Veterans Each year the Valley County Community Foundation and Ord High School work together to honor area veterans and active service men and women during a ceremony at Ord High School.

Fulfilling Needs and Opportunities with Local Charitable Funding

I Love Valley County Outreach Program Valley County is looking at a bright future with over 70% of graduating seniors indicating an interest in returning to their hometowns to pursue careers and raise their families. Since 2012, the VCCFF and partners conduct focused conversations with youth to build awareness around the abundant opportunities to live and work in Valley County. I Love Valley County flash drives with valuable information highlighting opportunities and networking resources are given to graduates, newcomers and alumni to promote connection and engagement in their county-wide home.

Empowering Youth to Share Talents Youth shared talents and passions in their community! Through a partnership with the Ord Public School Community Service Learning Project, the VCCFF supported youth community engagement by purchasing a new sand volleyball net and boundary lines to help students improve the sand volleyball courts at Bussell Park. This project empowered youth to use their leadership and passion to create positive change for the community. This project was designed by three eighth grade girls including Becca Reiss, Shay Holm and Abby Hytell. The VCCFF extends a sincere thank you to all youth who give back to their communities by sharing their gifts through volunteerism!

Home & Ag Expo Partnership Local area businesses and nonprofit organizations share their services and resources at the annual Valley County Home & Ag Expo. The VCCFF is honored to be a partnering sponsor of the event through hosting four educational sessions featuring the Nebraska Lawn Care Calendar, Marketing Strategies for Profitability in Ag Markets, and Landscape Design Basics. The event is made possible by dynamic partnerships among Valley County Economic Development, the Ord Area Chamber of Commerce, Valley County Community Foundation Fund, Loup Valley Ag Society and Central Nebraska Housing Developers.

Enhancing the Artistic Culture in Valley County In 2013, the VCCFF and the The Lied Center for Performing Arts - Arts Across Nebraska Program initiated a partnership to support artistic programming in Valley County. The Arts Across Nebraska program provides student matinees and public performances by world-class artists to rural Nebraska communities, preceded by in-school workshops for K–12 students.

The VCCFF hosted the play, What the Wind Taught Me and the Susan Werner, Hayseed Album performance in Valley County during the past three years. With each of these performances, our community enjoyed student performances, community performances and artistic workshops for youth.

The opportunity to foster this partnership with the Lied Center for Performing Arts –Arts Across Nebraska Program was made possible through funding support of a local endowment account with an investment of over $5,000.00. The VCCFF embraces these valuable opportunities to connect with expert resources to bring diverse cultural experiences and educational opportunities to Valley County.

Valley County Philanthropic Partners Nonprofit organizations working with you for the betterment of Valley County.

The Valley County Philanthropic Partners (VCPP) promote a thriving philanthropic culture in Valley County. This networking committee gives over 50 nonprofit organizations the opportunity to share ideas and resources, align fundraising events and campaigns, and promote charitable giving as a unified body for the greater good of the entire county!

The VCPP encourages all nonprofit organizations within Valley County , to participate in this partnership. The committee is currently holding monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. in the Central Community College-Ord Learning Center and other locations throughout the county. The VCPP hosts the Big Give to Valley County and organizes charitable giving workshops on an annual basis to enhance the philanthropic culture in our area. Any level of participation by nonprofit entities would strengthen the group as a whole and benefit each organization. Working together through a united partnership will continue to produce benefits for all of Valley County!

The VCCFF supports the VCPP committee by providing financial resources for materials and marketing, staff support for communications and philanthropic educational workshops each year.

Investing In A Vibrant Future

Crystal & Tenley Ramm ~ Contributing With a Monthly Gift Crystal and Tenley Ramm joined the Valley County community in 2013. Crystal serves as the Central Community College-Ord Learning Center Coordinator and is actively involved in numerous community development programs and projects. During the past year, Crystal committed to contributing a monthly donation of $10.00 per month to the Unrestricted Endowment account using the monthly automatic withdrawal option as a convenient way to give back to the community. "Valley County has quickly become the place that I call "home" and a community I am proud to raise my daughter in. The VCCFF holds a powerful presence in our community, providing unlimited resources to area youth and community members each year. I feel that as a rural community we are incredibly blessed to have this huge resource locally available and at our disposal. I have always believed that a little goes a long ways and that all things are possible when everyone gives a little, whatever that might be. Contributing, even a little, to an organization that gives so much to this community only made sense."

Gene & Jody McCoy ~ Giving Back through Creative Planning Gene and Jody McCoy are longtime supporters of giving charitably to their community. Last spring Gene and Jody made a significant gift to the Valley County Community Foundation Fund from a Donor Advised Fund which they have established as a means for contributing to charitable causes that benefit their community. Gene stated, “Establishing this Charitable Trust is a way for Jody and me to enhance our giving while receiving tax advantages. I believe in the power of endowments as sustainable local resources which provide annual funding to meet community needs and pursue new opportunities.” The VCCFF deeply appreciates Gene and Jody’s support and commitment to their community.

Joe & Chris Wadas ~ Celebrating with Honorarium Gifts Joe Wadas has been a fund advisory member of the Valley County Community Foundation Fund since its inception and he contributes to the Fund in many meaningful ways. One way that Joe and his wife Chris give back to their community is through contributions to the VCCFF for area business grand openings. For each honorarium gift the VCCFF gives a certificate to the designated business listing the honoree and the contributor. The benefit for the VCCFF is two-fold as the contributions build the endowment and the honorariums build awareness of the Fund and unrestricted endowment as an option for local giving.

“Giving back to your hometown is essential for continued growth and prosperity. Our family has lived here for generations and Chris and I want to do our part to ensure our great quality of life for our children and grandchildren and community,” stated Joe. “Giving honorarium gifts is a meaningful way to celebrate new business growth in Valley County and contribute to our community foundation so we have local funding resources.”
