Welcome Majura Players/Parents and friends

Help for Coaches

Hi Majura Players/Parents and friends

Football Quiz

Thank you for all your support in getting the season off to a successful start. With over 1200 players it can be a challenge to get players on the right field at the right time for every game.

Axel DebenhamLendon v Fed Pollies Thank you Canberra Olympic Capital Football

You will have noticed we have introduced a few changes to the Pee Wees. These changes are in line with the FFA guidelines in an attempt for players to have more touches on the ball every week. Our young game leaders are doing a fantastic job of implementing the changes. Thank you for your positive feedback and we hope you will continue to support our young leaders. The Club is totally reliant on volunteers for its smooth operation and we always appreciate anyone who can give us some of their precious time on a regular basis to undertake one of the many tasks each week. If you’d like to help in any way I would be glad to hear from you. I am usually around every Saturday so please feel free to come up and say hello and pass on any ideas on how we can continue to improve the Majura Football Club. The Committee hopes you all continue to enjoy your football whether you are playing or supporting. Regards Ashley Jackson President, Majura FC

Don’t forget June Long Weekend All age groups play games as normal.

Football News Pee Wees. We’ve introduced some changes to the Pee Wees this year. A little more focus on skills and individual player development as outlined in the FFA Curriculum. The young leaders are learning and doing a great job. The feeback from parents and players has been excellent. We’re sure all our players will benefit in coming years. Kai Thornton, Majura U15 and Will Hunter, Olympic U16 are in the ACT U15 train-on development squad - they’re training for the U14 Nationals in Coffs Harbour in October. Ali Cook had a great U13 Nationals in April and in the National Futsals in January. This time she’s been selected in the ACT U15s and will head to the Nationals in Coffs Harbour in July. Good luck Ali. Will Roberts has been selected in the ACT first U10 Development squad for boys. There is a big training component to this program with FFA sanctioned Skills Coaches working on individual skill development as the squads’ main focus. Other age groups are expected to start soon. Kanga Cup has over 90 teams entered including many Majura teams. Stephen Spencer is our Kanga Cup organiser, please let him know if your team is entered. Matildas have made the front cover of 442 football magazine ahead of the World Cup - starts late June, live on SBS. It’s the first time this magazine has ever had women on the cover in 17 years of publication in any country.

Football In Central America and Mexico President’s Welcome Football News Volunteers needed Under 7/8 Photo

Jackson Clement McNee , Majura U13 Open Div 1 writes about his recent trip to South America and how football can opne doors around the world. Football is a game played everywhere. It is played in poverty stricken areas and rich areas, and Central America is a good example because when I went there for holidays over Christmas I played some kids who had 20 different Messi shirts and some kids didn’t even have shoes.

Former Majura Pee Wee Kahlia Hogg is now a Young Matilda. The Young Matildas are preparing for their Asian Cup qualifers later in the year.

First when we left Australia, and after 13 hours, we landed in L.A where I met a poor man called Franc who lived on Venice Beach and he must of seen my Barcelona shirt and so just threw a football at me and we just juggled for half an hour and as a few Americans walked past they called me Beckham and Donovan. It was Awesome until we started kicking at a wall and some guy came and got angry at us and told us to move. It was sad seeing him going back to sleep on the beach with his football.

Jsckson in La Sabana Park, San Jose, Costa Rica

COSTA RICA Next was Costa Rica we stayed at San Jose and a hotel called Don Carlos where we asked the person at the desk if there was a football field, he said it was called La Sabana and kids came down every Saturday. So the next day (Saturday) we went to La Sabana and there were games everywhere and people all different ages and I just started juggling and as soon as I did that people invited me to come play and they played for about two hours, and these guys were aged from 11 to 35 and they were all very skilful. They could dribble, pass and they all had good touches.

Jackson Clemet McNee Majura U13 Open Div 1 continues his football journey through Central America. Panama Panama was my favourite country for football because just around the corner from where we were staying there was a cancha (football field) and from 3pm to 7pm every day the kids played football and I showed up and played football with them. My parents would want to leave to go sightseeing or eat dinner, but the kids would say “no, necesitamos (we need) Jackson” and I had to stay for four hours. It was a synthetic field and every kid would be so passionate every time the ref said something they didn’t like they would be pretty much crying but when they scored a goal they be taking their shirts off screaming like they just won a World Cup. In Panama I learned lots of Spanish and can say things like; handball, corner, header, and goaloso (a fabulous goal). So Panama was the best footballing country. Jackson in his favourite country for football. Panama. Jackson shows the locals a thing or two on the cancha. (L/R) Mexico Mexico was a bit disappointing I was expecting to play football everyday but I only played it once.

Majura FC Committee meetings are on the first Monday of every month at the Clubhouse 7.30pm.

But we did end up going to see a football match between Pumas and Monterray which was really good but we ended up sitting on the wrong side of the stadium. We accidently sat with the away teams supporters and there were cops standing everywhere. There were more cops then Monterray fans.

All welcome.

So in conclusion Central America is a really good place to go to if want to have a holiday and still play lots of football.

Alex Martens is an U13 Open Div 1 player. And she has justed started refereeing. Alex shares her thoughts: “I started refereeing this year and went to a couple of meetings and learnt a lot about refereeing Soccer. I thought I could get some more pocket money and save up for things that I wanted. I started reffing the young age groups and sidelining older games because I’m not quite confident to my age or above. I’ve learnt more rules about Soccer and my parents come and watch me on the sidelines and give me tips and pointers.” Thank you Alex and please support Alex and all our Referees during the games.

Coaching Majura: Check out all Capital Football courses here. Rob Janssens and myself, Eamonn Flanagan - with advice and guidance from Capital Football U13 Coach and Woden Valley TD Colin Johnstone - put together a suggested training plan for Under 7 open recently. This plan would work for U7, 8 or 9’s with some tweaking at the older end. Of course there are heaps more skills and excercises your players can do - but for many coaches knowing what to focus on this week, next month or next year is often not so simple. We hope this guide assists a little. Struggling with what to Coach? contact publicofficer@majurafc.org.au and we’ll see if we can get someone to assist.
