Capital Football Junior Coach of the Year 2012 is Belwest’s Ashish Madan.

Junior News Ashish Madan

We caught up with Ashish to get his views on all things coaching.

BBQ Canteen Rosters Quiz Time Contacts

The team: * Last season I coached the U12 Girls, this season I have moved up with them and am coaching the U13 Girls. Training schedule and focus: * Training normally has been one day a week. * Focus on training days is on fitness routines, 1-2 soccer skills per training session and a quick game at the end to enforce what was done in the training.

Thanks to our Major Sponsor

Match day focus: * Focus on match days is normally on 3 things - have fun, play in your allocated position and play a passing game. Coach rewards: * It is great to see players develop right through the season - develop and hone their skills, come together as a team and develop as a person. It is the most rewarding thing about coaching. Tips for those cold Canberra winter nights: * Keeping warm I guess. I remember cancelling a few training sessions half way through as the players could not keep warm no matter how much they trained. More from Ashish on the next page www.belwestsoccer.com

(cont) Capital Football Junior Coach of the Year Ashish Madan talks us through his Coaching experience. Ashish give us some helpful tips for successful coaching:

Welcome

• Patience. Remember they are still kids/young adults still learning about life and about sport. Junior News • Keep it Simple (KISS) philosophy, don’t make the game too complicated. • End of the day it is only a game. You will win a few, lose a few. Ashish Madan • Coaching is a long term commitment, it is only over a few seasons you will see the team develop.

Final thoughts Ashish: In a season if a player learns 1 or 2 things in that season, you have done your job. I have turned to the club for support both in administrative matters and technical support. They have run some very good training sessions for coaches which helped me tremendously.

’From the Grill’ Hi all, welcome back to a new season. I thought a brief intro to the new BBQ guy would be a good start. My name is Shaun Comber, have been with Belwest since my daughters started in the Juniors and have followed them through to the Senior Leagues.

Thanks to our Major Sponsor

I have been involved as a coach in the Senior Women’s League for 10+ years, so I know a few faces around the club in the senior competition. The BBQ on a Saturday morning is a great earner for the club so your help, whether it be for an hour or 2, or 3 is greatly appreciated. I look forward to meeting all the volunteers from each of the Junior teams this year whilst organising the BBQ. Shaun
