We appreciate the generosity and dedication of our NDSCS Alumni Foundation donors. WOMEN FOR NDSCS SCHOLARSHIP It takes someone’s passion, perseverance, and dedication to sometimes make a dream come true. Former instructor and track coach Dee Jensen has done just that. She is establishing a scholarship that will help women continue to be recognized and noticed for their achievements. This scholarship endowment begins with a gift of $10,000 and is growing daily as others have joined in the efforts to build on it. The criteria set is for any full-time, second-year female student. The award winners and other women will also be involved in professional development, philanthropic, and leadership opportunities provided by this endowment as it grows. $1.1 MILLION IN SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED More than $1 million in scholarships are available to incoming North Dakota State College of Science students, the college’s Alumni Foundation announced Monday, June 13. In just six years, the NDSCS Scholarship Fund has grown from $400,000 to more than $1 million. “This has been a dream of ours for quite a while, to be able to give as much as we can through scholarships,” Alumni Foundation Executive Director Kim Nelson said. “After we reached $500,000, I thought, ‘We can reach a million. I think we can get there.’ And here we are.” NDSCS is able to sustain and build on the momentum of donors’ generosity. It’s the passion that our alumni and our friends have for the college. We build on that passion and when we get someone who comes back, who wants to leave a legacy in someone’s name, whether themselves or a loved one, we go from there. It’s about listening to the stories and hearing someone say that they want to make a difference and help students along the way. Many NDSCS Scholarship Fund donors remember when they received scholarships. It was an unforgettable experience, something they want to recreate for others, NDSCS Foundation, through its business and industry partners, alumni, and friends has approximately 210 named scholarships.
CULINARY GROWTH Culinary Arts at NDSCS continues to grow and flourish with new scholarship and programming opportunities. For example, they have partnered with places and organizations like Ardent Mills, who donated over 500 lbs. of locally milled bread flour, The North Dakota Soybean Council, which is providing scholarships for the winners of a soy foods recipe contest, and The North Dakota Beef Commission, who donate $6,500 to be used for equipment and educational opportunities. The Culinary Arts Program partnered with many organizations for the revitalized NDSCS Homecoming Tailgate. These organizations include The North Dakota Pork Board (two whole hogs), Northarvest Bean Growers Association (beans), Sysco Foods (sauces and condiments), and local community members (vegetables for coleslaw and buns). It was a fantastic event that showcased the power of partnerships. Stay tuned for their upcoming annual scholarship dinner coming late spring. This is an excellent opportunity for you and some friends to enjoy fabulous food and wine.
