GETTING ACCEPTED AT UA, ASU, NAU REQUIREMENTS FOR GUARANTEED ACCEPTANCE 16 core classes:

1 Fine Art/CTE And meet at least 1 of the following: Graduate in the top 25% of your class 3.0 GPA in competency areas ACT-22/SAT-1120 *Must not have more than 2 deficiencies in competency areas. Deficiencies cannot be in both Math and Science.

APPLYING TO THE HONORS COLLEGES

Must be admitted to NAU before applying Honors College Application Opens beginning of September Two Essays (new prompts this year) Activity Resume Submit application by mid November to be considered for Honors scholarships

Must submit app to ASU before applying Barrett Application opens beginning of September Two Essays (new prompts this year) Two Letters of Recommendation Application due beginning of November

COLLEGE SELECTION

REACH 1-2 colleges which you do not necessarily have the ideal or upper-range academic criteria for admissions but are close enough to still merit consideration.

MATCH Most applications should be well-researched colleges for which you fall comfortably within the stated range of admissions criteria and in which you have a strong interest in attending.

SAFETY A college for which you exceed the upper range of the admissions criteria and are therefore fairly “certain” to be admitted.

LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION Do I need recommendations?

Whom should I ask?

- Email your teacher

- Formally request in SCOIR

- Fill out surveys: “Teacher Letter of

Recommendation Questionnaire”, “Counselor

Letter of Recommendation Questionnaire”, and

“Parent Brag Sheet” (All due by mid September)

- Follow up with teacher.

- Send thank you note!

COMMON APP & SCOIR If applying through Common App, please leave the teachers’ and counselors’ emails blank under the “Recommender” section.

You will request letters of rec from teachers through SCOIR. You will be instructed to provide various PDF forms to your counselor and teacher. You DO NOT need to provide these forms. Your counselor will access and complete these forms through Scoir (Ex: School Report, etc).

Type in the teacher’s name and write a quick note.

THE DO’S

Complete college applications via Common App or direct to the institution Complete essay requirements including supplementals Keep in communication with your teachers regarding letters of recommendation If applying with test scores, please send them directly from ACT and College Board Remember your deadlines. Use senior timeline checklists in MyDrive (SCOIR)

Once you have been accepted, come to the counseling office and pin the board!

If you have received a scholarship, bring the letter/paperwork to Mrs. Jean in the counseling office.
