M I S S I O N S TAT E M E N T Notre Dame Preparatory is a Diocesan Catholic High School dedicated to the promotion of academic excellence and the pursuit of holiness through the shared values of Reverence, Respect, and Responsibility, out of love for Jesus Christ.
V I S I O N S TAT E M E N T To provide the highest quality Catholic high school educational experience, offering student-centered learning opportunities which develop the whole person: mind, body and soul.
MIND We are a leader in Catholic education through innovation and visionary focus and constant examination of best practices. We instill a strong spiritual foundation among our students in order to discern vocation using the God-given talents through a rigorous, multifaceted program of study. We promote high academic standards to form future problem solvers engaged in critical and creative thinking, who are able to collaborate and utilize diverse means of education and evaluate the moral implications of their decisions. BODY We uphold the virtues of fortitude, selflessness, sacrifice, self-mastery, integrity, strength, tenacity, humility, charity, courage and loyalty through peer support, accountability and love. We provide an environment allowing students to feel safe, loved and validated in their physical and social-emotional development knowing they are supported across the community. We develop the whole person by creating a culture of active participation through a variety of co-curricular and athletic activities that enhance creativity, leadership, passion, teamwork, and physical health. SOUL We partner with families to educate students in the Catholic faith, so they know their identity in Christ and their unique call to holiness. We foster an environment where students can encounter Christ through the Sacraments of the Church, prayer, retreats, and opportunities for lifelong servant leadership. We encourage and invite students to become transformational Christian leaders that support faith, patriotism, and moral values so that they may choose what is good, true, and beautiful with ease and clarity.

President/Principal Welcome Dear Parents, Welcome to the 2020-21 year. This year our theme is We Rise... I’m looking forward to reconnecting with our students, faculty, and staff as We Rise from the uncertainty that comes with COVID-19 closures. Starting this year online is a scenario we planned for but hoped we wouldn’t have to utilize. Our campus is a dynamic place and beautiful things happen when teaching can take place in person. But we will embrace this year with gratitude, thankful for each other and God and His protection and providence during these trying times. Developing thoughtful and moral leaders who will Rise in the midst of adversity is indicative of our Catholic identity. For more on this, please read Fr. Kurt’s letter on page 19. Our top priority is the health, safety, and well-being of everyone on campus. Please refer to the 2020-21 Student/Parent Handbook. As in years past, there are important protocols and waivers you must sign before beginning classes. In light of all the changes, one thing remains constant and that is the love of God and His presence in our lives. At NDP it is our mission to strengthen the minds, bodies, and souls of our students through a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, health and safety practices, co-curricular activities, and faith formation. Each year we produce Saints 101 to provide an overview of the most referenced NDP tools, policies, programs and daily schedules. All the information introduced in this publication can be found on the NDP mobile app and website. Links are provided to help you navigate to our website for more information. I invite you to explore the information regarding parent groups and engagement, and the many ways each of you can support the long-term growth and financial stability of our school. Our beautiful new state-of-the-art performing arts center will open this spring. Details on how you can contribute to this exciting project can be found on page 34. I encourage you to get involved and you will make life-long friends and lasting connections while making a difference at NDP. Keep your copy of Saints 101 handy throughout the year, as it will be a helpful resource. Pay careful attention to the list of dates on our online calendar at ndpsaints.org/calendar. Thank you for entrusting your student with us. Together We Rise as Saints! Yours in Christ,
Jill Platt, M. Ed. Notre Dame Preparatory President/Principal

ATTENDANCE
(480) 634-8250 - attendance@ndpsaints.org
ABSENCES/TARDIES 1. The state of Arizona requires by law [ARS 15-803(B)] that all students attend school 90% of the school year. Students who miss 10% or more of classes may jeopardize earning credit in each class in which they have excessive absences. 2. If your child will be absent, contact the Attendance Line by phone or email each day your child is absent. 3. A student is considered tardy whether they enter the classroom in person or online after the bell rings at the start of class. If a student accumulates more than three tardies in a class, the tardies will start to be counted as absences and course credit could be jeopardized. 4. Please familiarize yourself with the entire attendance policy which applies whether the student is in the classroom in person or online, and make note of the procedures in the following areas: a. For students arriving late, a parent or legal guardian must call or email Attendance prior to the student’s arrival. b. Students will not be allowed to enter campus after 9:50 am. They will be required to complete their coursework online for the day. c. For security reasons, a parent or legal guardian must notify Attendance if a student is leaving school early. d. Students who leave campus early for an appointment will be required to complete the rest of their school day online from home. They will not be permitted back on campus. e. Pre-arranged absences need to go through the Deans’ Office and a Request for Pre-Arranged Absence form must be submitted. f. Students may NOT leave school with anyone other than their parent without written permission from the student’s parent or legal guardian.

BELL SCHEDULE NDP’s daily schedule has been modified to a block schedule. Studies show that a block schedule allows for in-depth instruction, application, feedback and reflection. Whether the students are learning fully online, fully on-campus or in a hybrid model, the block schedule will maximize student learning and allows us to implement safe distancing and COVID-19 safety practices. The Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday schedule is consistent, incorporating four classes, daily House time and three break periods. If a hybrid schedule is required, each student will be assigned to a Purple or Gold grouping via their House designation. Students in the gold grouping will be on-campus on Monday/Tuesday and will attend online Thursday/Friday. Students in the purple grouping will be attending online Monday/Tuesday and will attend oncampus on Thursday/Friday. The Wednesday schedule is unique with all classes meeting for shorter time periods and ending with an early dismissal time that allows for faculty continued professional learning. If we are operating fully on campus, student learning and instruction will take place on campus. If we are operating fully online or in a hybrid model, student learning and instruction will take place online from home. This shortened Wednesdsay schedule will allow for thorough campus cleaning and faculty and staff professional development.

A message from the Chaplain Dear Notre Dame Prep Community, Since the birth of Christianity and that first Easter Sunday morning, many of us have found great solace and hope in our faith, even in the midst of difficulties and tragedies. In fact, Jesus came to bring hope to people suffering under the weight of many things; the poor, the sick, the marginalized and those who felt lost. Most of all, He brought hope to us sinners. Despite even the tragedy and darkness of our sins, there is always the light of God who rescues us, loves us, and forgives us. Jesus conquered death, and He gives us an opportunity to Rise and live with Him forever. Switching on the news and viewing all that is happening around us, it is not an understatement to say that we are living in unprecedented times. Yet it is for times such as these, that each of us is placed in this moment of history. Each of us is called by God and we will Rise in Christ, to be a light in the darkness, and to be a tangible presence of God’s love to all we meet. We are called to Rise from mediocrity – whether that be in our spiritual life, the practice of our faith, in our academic pursuits, and in how we treat each other. We are called to Rise with God’s grace whenever we have fallen and experience God’s love and forgiveness. Most of all, we are called to Rise to build up people, structures, and our character, rather than tear down and destroy. Oftentimes, the most beautiful moments of hope come at the heels of difficult times and struggles. This is why the year’s theme is “We Rise..!” as it harkens to the central tenet of our faith: Jesus rising up from the tomb. After a terrible tragedy, great hope appeared! Here at Notre Dame Prep, we have strong hope that we will Rise to new heights, in our faith formation, in our academic programs, and even with our new infrastructure on campus. We Rise in the love of Jesus, so that we may be a beacon of light – starting first here in our Scottsdale community – and eventually extending to the whole world. To Jesus through Mary,
Fr. Kurt Perera Chaplain

FAITH Contact: Fr. Kurt Perera, Chaplain | frkurt@ndpsaints.org Shelley Dinges, Director of Christian Service Learning sdinges@ndpsaints.org | 480-634-8391 As a Catholic High School, Notre Dame Prep is committed to providing faith-deepening experiences for students, parents, faculty and staff. Following the example of Our Lady, we always try to point our community toward Jesus Christ. We provide a learning environment based on faith and reason that challenges students to grow intellectually, personally, ethically and spiritually by offering: Daily Prayer Mass: Daily in the Chapel and Monthly All-School (when allowed) Sacrament of Reconciliation (Advent, Lent and anytime by appointment) First Friday Adoration of The Blessed Sacrament Retreats: All-School House, Kairos, Senior Moms, Faculty and Staff Faith Formation Activities Within House System
PRAYER REQUESTS As a community, we pray for one another. NDP friends and families may request special prayer intentions to be offered up during daily school prayer. Your prayer request is a sacred trust and kept confidential. To request a prayer, please visit ndpsaints.org/faith/prayer-requests.
MASS ON CAMPUS Mass is the source and summit of Catholic life. We will continue to hold daily Mass at 7:10 a.m. in our Chapel, with Wednesday Mass livestreamed at youtube.com/notredameprep. Only 25 people may attend morning Masses until the State of Arizona clears us for larger gatherings. Once the COVID-19 ban on large gatherings is lifted, we will resume our monthly All-School Masses in the gym.
CHRISTIAN SERVICE LEARNING Serving those most in need helps students learn to freely sacrifice themselves to serve the less fortunate and marginalized. We strive to form in our students a heart that resembles the Sacred Heart of Jesus, sympathetic to the suffering of others. Students are required to give 120 hours of Christian service over four years in order to graduate. A pass/fail grade is given if requirements are met or not. Please see our new Christian service policy ndpsaints.org/faith/christian-service-learning. For more information about faith life at NDP, please visit ndpsaints.org/faith.

CULTURE
At NDP we engage in the formation of the entire person, mind, body and soul. We desire that our students lead lives that reflect the example of Jesus Christ. Guided by Mary Lou Lachvayder, Director of the House System, students develop leadership skills and become the best versions of themselves while living authentic lives that are true to the teachings of Jesus Christ.
THE HOUSE SYSTEM In this technological world, and now with the quarantine, teens are more isolated than ever before. To remedy this, our student body is grouped into 10 Houses. These Houses build community, mentorship, discipleship and opportunities for growth and leadership. Each House consists of four smaller groups called Families. This year, our students will have a chance to check in with their Family for fifteen minutes each day for real interpersonal interaction and fellowship. The Houses compete for the coveted House Cup each year by earning House Points through academics, Christian service and school spirit, while showing Reverence, Respect and Responsibility toward each other. We are Ten Houses - One Community of Saints

NDP LIVE, BAKING, MEDICAL, & OTHER CLUBS
We offer more than 30 student-led clubs at NDP for students who have hobbies beyond athletics and academics. From Medical Club and Diversity Club to Saints For Life and NDP Live!, there is something for every interest. This year, our Baking Club will travel to France and train at Le Cordon Bleu to make up for the trip that was postponed due to the Coronavirus outbreak last spring. There are a limited number of spaces still available for budding chefs. If interested, contact Mrs. Jean at kjean@ndpsaints.org. Students are encouraged to join a club early as a way to make friends who share their passions and interests. If a club of interest doesn’t exist, students are encouraged to create one with other like-minded individuals.
STUDENT LEADERS Student leaders for clubs, honor socities, committees, Dog Pound and House provide direction for our student activities. They plan activities, dances, spirit weeks, charity drives and keep our campus life fun and engaging all year long. All enthusiastic Saints are encouraged to apply for leadership roles. See Mrs. Beers or Mrs. Lachvayder in the COMM for details.

ARTS ARTS PROGRAMS St. Augustine advises us to create art with our lives. At NDP we offer an array of classes in performing and visual arts. Each performance group competes in local and regional festivals and performs acts of charity for those who are hospital-bound or students who may not otherwise have access to music, song, dance or creative art. We offer choir, jazz ensemble, guitar orchestra, drama, dance and poetry. Visual arts department includes drawing, painting, pottery/ceramics, digital video and photography, and mosaic disciplines. Our arts programs have earned local, regional and national acclaim. We wait with great anticipation and excitement for the opening of our new St. Catherine of Bologna Performing Arts Center in early 2021. Very soon we will have a beautiful space for our talented artists to showcase their hard work and discipline. Please check our school website for more information and performance dates. Read more at ndpsaints.org/arts.

ATHLETICS
ATHLETICS
More than 80% of our students participate in AIA athletics or NDP club sports. We offer 29 different sports and have won 49 team state championships and counting! NDP ensures a quality athletic program for all student athletes in a Catholic atmosphere. For more information about our athletics programs including our Athlete Handbook, facility locations and our statement on sportsmanship, go to ndpsaints.org/athletics. Due to COVID-19, the AIA is waiving the annual physical exam rule for athletes who have a 2019-20 physical on record with the school they are attending in 2020-21 and they meet certain requirements. There are many exceptions to this exemption, so please read the information posted at https://www.ndpsaints.org/athletics/clearance-and-registration before tryout dates. Students new to NDP who wish to participate on an athletic team must obtain a new physical and create a FamilyID account here https://www.familyid.com/notredame-preparatory-high-school-arizona. This task must be completed to be cleared prior to the first tryout for athletes.

ATHLETICS CHAIN OF COMMUNICATION
Should a concern arise during an athletic season, the student athlete (not the parent) should advocate for themselves and speak directly with his or her Coach If further clarification is required, the parent should then contact the coach; it is advised that no contact between parent and coach be made until at least the day after the incident/event in question – (24 hour rule) If the issue remains unresolved, the parent should then communicate his/her concern with the Athletic Director at mcisterna@ndpsaints.org. SUPPORT
Each year Notre Dame Prep relies on the generosity of donors not only to ensure that we meet the needs of our school today but also to anticipate the demands of the future. Each gift, no matter the size, is truly appreciated.
THE SAINTS FUND WE RISE FOR THE HEALTH & SAFETY OF OUR STUDENTS Saints Fund is our top fundraising priority and runs annually. It provides unrestricted, current-use dollars that directly impact all students. Saints Fund defines the breadth and depth of our educational and co-curricular programs while giving NDP the flexibility to address immediate school needs. This year’s fund will support technology, health, safety and welfare efforts that have arisen due to the COVID-19 virus. This includes integrated display technology that allows our students to receive clear, effective instruction and feedback whether working virtually or with some degree of separation. We ask for 100% participation from our NDP families, faculty and staff. Please visit ndpsaints.org/give to make your gift today.
ADVERTISE WITH NDP Business owners have many opportunities to advertise to loyal constituents through NDP. Our community supports one another and Notre Dame Prep has several ways to reach potential customers from scoreboard commercials to print ads and much more. Our Media Kit lists all the opportunities for the 2020-21 school year. View it at ndpsaints.org/sponsorships.

MARDI GRAS DAY OF GIVING Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday is a special day at NDP. Our NDP Live! club hosts an all-day live-stream-a-thon to raise as much money in one day as possible. Their 12-hour broadcast is full of fun contests, fundraising updates and testimonials about the many ways NDP has impacted the lives of current and former students. Spread the word! It is the day before Lent begins and we ask our entire community to #giveitup4NDP and make a donation. All proceeds are added to Saints Fund for tuition assistance and urgent school priorities.
ARIZONA PRIVATE SCHOOL TAX CREDIT Redirect your tax dollars to help make an NDP education affordable for all at No Cost to You! ITC - The individual tax credit, for those filing single or joint returns, is a dollar for dollar match of your tax liability (amount restrictions apply). Simply go to the Catholic Education Arizona website (ceaz.org) to fill out the forms and a portion of your tax dollars will be directed to CEA. Remember to designate Notre Dame Prep as the school to which you want your tax dollars directed. The deadline to file is April 15. CTC - The corporate tax credit can direct 100% of your company’s tax liability to Notre Dame Prep, provided the company files an AZ 120, 120A or 120S form. We hope you will choose CEA and designate Notre Dame Prep. In turn, CEA will use the tax dollars to distribute scholarships to our students with a demonstrated need. The deadline to file is June 30. Contact Heather Weurding at hweurding@ndpsaints.org with questions.
PLANNED GIVING, ENDOWMENTS Interested in other forms of charitable giving including appreciated stocks and securities, will bequests and trusts? Contact Lyric Naquin at lnaquin@ndpsaints.org to discuss tax-advantageous strategies to achieve your charitable goals.

FUNDRAISING EVENTS
The NDP Advancement Department traditionally supports four fundraising events each year. These evenings are well attended and provide an opportunity for friends, neighbors, business associates, and relatives to get to know our NDP community. Although times are fluid due to the COVID-19 virus, it is our intention to host these events again this year, but reserve the right to cancel or postpone, if necessary for the health and well-being of our community. The revenue generated from these events is a key factor in achieving our fundraising goals. Not only do the funds raised help bridge the gap between tuition fees and the actual cost to educate, but most recently, we were able to complete a number of campus beautification projects, improve campus safety and update our technology. View all the underwriting and sponsorship opportunities at ndpsaints.org/sponsorships.

ADVANCING OUR CATHOLIC MISSION Thanks to the generosity of a group of families in our community, Notre Dame Prep has begun construction of a flexible blackbox theater and much needed classroom space. Construction began spring of 2020 and we anticipate the opening in spring 2021.
ABOUT THE PROJECT This 20,000 square foot facility will have a tremendous impact on the entire student experience at NDP and will provide our community with the following opportunities: Academic space to support theater, instrumental, choral, and digital video programs Expansion of the performing arts curriculum to include theater tech and stage design Gathering space for large community events, including Mass, Christian service activities, lectures, parent gatherings, House meetings, and events The total cost for the flexible blackbox theater and additional classrooms is $6.8 million. As of June 2020, we have raised approximately $5.2 million toward our goal. We are grateful for the leadership and support received thus far and welcome the participation of other families to support this effort. As soon as the funds are secured for Phase I, we anticipate moving quickly to address other needs, including the completion of the Stadium Complex, STEM classrooms, and the construction of “Saints Hall to accommodate in-door dining and large gatherings, among other priorities. We currently have an unmet challenge gift of $300,000 from an anonymous foundation, so your donation is more critical than ever! Please visit ndpsaints.org/campaign and make your gift today and help bring the arts to life for our students. You may contact Lyric Naquin, Director of Advancement and Major Gifts at 480-634-8226 or lnaquin@ndpsaints.org with any questions.
