MATER DEI AWARDS The Mater Dei Awards are presented to seniors who most epitomize the qualities we associate with an NDP Saint. They are involved academically, spiritually, athletically and socially at Notre Dame Preparatory. This is the highest award Notre Dame Preparatory bestows upon its students.

VALEDICTORIAN & SALUTATORIAN Valedictorians and Salutatorians at many schools simply represent those students who achieve academic excellence. At NDP, the honor represents so much more. The Valedictorian and Salutatorian of Notre Dame Preparatory are certainly individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary academic achievement, but it is the quality of their character and their commitment to the mission of our school that, when combined with their intellect, makes them worthy of recognition.

Patron SAINT AWARDS Our Patron Saint Awards honor seniors who, while demonstrating all of the attributes most associated with an NDP saint, have distinguished themselves among their peers in a particular area.

St. Francis of Assisi | Zabinia Arvizu The St. Francis of Assisi Award for Discipleship is given to the student who demonstrates deep personal spirituality and lives it out through his or her everyday life. Award recipients are recognized by their obvious commitment to their faith as seen through daily actions.

St. Teresa of Calcutta | Megan Torrel The St. Teresa of Calcutta Award for Service and Justice is presented to a senior who is spiritually and intellectually devoted to social action and justice, as demonstrated by their passionate commitment to service, particularly with the poor and marginalized of our world.

St. Thomas Aquinas | McKenna Timm The St. Thomas Aquinas Award for Scholarship is awarded to a senior, a scholar and thinker, who exemplifies overall academic excellence. Going well beyond demonstrating excellence simply by their level of achievement, this individual demonstrates a desire to learn for learning’s sake by possessing an inquisitive and critical mind.

“She is quick to look for the positives, the funny, the stunning, the thought provoking things that she can glean from what is around her.”

St. Katharine Drexel | Zoe Bryant The St. Katharine Drexel Award for Leadership is given to a senior who not only possesses the ability to lead, motivate and inspire, but also the courage to do so both privately and publicly for the promotion of our school’s mission.

“Zoe’s time at NDP has allowed her to showcase her natural abilities along with the growth the school has allotted to her, and she is every bit deserving of this award.”

St. Augustine | Matthew Rogers The St. Augustine Award for Promise and Growth recognizes the student who demonstrates exemplary personal growth over his or her career at NDP, growth that has not only benefited the individual personally, but also our school community.

“His innate leadership skills, inner joy, and positivity will serve him well in his future endeavors and he will do well wherever he goes and whatever he does.”

Saints Performing Arts Award | Oliver Kedish The Saints Performing Arts Award is presented to an outstanding senior whose talent in and commitment to the performing arts is worthy of special recognition.

“He has demonstrated that he knows how to “work for things that no one can take from you.” - Mr. Bob Powers

Saints Visual Arts Award | Nicole Huffman The Saints Visual Arts award is presented to the most outstanding senior whose talent in and commitment to the visual arts is worthy of special recognition.

“She is humble and modest and kind and has magical talents that just flow from her fingertips....every chance she has, she is either painting, drawing, sketching, inventing, creating new visual works that are exceptional.” - Ms. Jennifer Kiraly

SENIOR SAINT AWARDS Scot Bemis Award The Scot Bemis Award is presented to two graduating scholar athletes, one female and one male, whose engagement in NDP’s athletic department is exemplified by extraordinary talent and commitment to NDP athletics. These recipients also have a love of NDP, they lead by example, and have a “Get After It” mentality. It is fitting to name the award in honor of Mr. Scot Bemis, whose dedication to NDP and NDP athletics encompassed those qualities for which these two graduating seniors possess.

Brock Locnikar “Not only would Coach have loved to teach and mentor Brock, he mirrored him greatly as a student athlete in his own right; for Coach Bemis was a star linebacker, wrestler and always took pride in his work in the classroom.”

SENIOR SAINT AWARDS Saints Pride Award The Saints Pride Award is given to seniors who demonstrate extraordinary commitment to the mission of NDP through their participation in, and leadership of events, activities, clubs and athletics, and do so with unabashed enthusiasm and spirit. They go well beyond the norm to support all aspects of student life, from sports and the arts, to activities and service. One might say that these students “bleed” purple and gold. Candidates for this award are nominated by their peers in the senior class and final selection is made by the Awards Committee.

SENIOR SAINT AWARDS Saints Loyalty and Commitment Award The Saints Loyalty and Commitment Award is given to seniors whose support of NDP through service to their House and in leadership in various other organizations at NDP exemplify our school’s commitment to service and sacrifice for the good of our community. These individuals demonstrate loyalty to our school and its mission in numerous and varied ways, often well beyond typical responsibilities, and are respected by their fellow students.

SENIOR SAINT AWARDS Spirit of Courage Award The Saints Spirit of Courage Award is presented to seniors who have successfully navigated and overcome personal and other challenges, all the while living out the mission of NDP in their daily lives.

Daniel Doherty “I cannot imagine how difficult it must have been for him, but in my classroom, I never once saw anything but respect, attention, effort, focus, humility, and integrity.” - Mr. Rob Gwinn

SENIOR SAINT AWARDS

Senior STEM Award | Davis Pitts The Senior STEM award is given to a student who has demonstrated innovation and creativity through the integration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. This student has also shown a commitment to the improvement of the community through STEM. “Engineering, technical drawing, aviation, robotics, computer science, Davis thrived in them all.” - Dcn. St. Angela Merici Award for Perseverance | Kathryn Bastien The St. Angela Merici Award for Perseverance is given to a senior who goes above and beyond to excel in their studies, demonstrates patience and dedication to their end goal, or perseveres beyond what is commonly done by others in the course of their time at Notre Dame Preparatory.

Congressional Awards Congressional Merit Award | Lauren Kobley Aimed at recognizing outstanding high school seniors, this award is given to students who have been pillars of academic excellence and community leadership throughout their high school careers.

Congressional Scholastic Achievement Award The Congressional Scholastic Achievement Award recognizes outstanding students from each high school who have achieved academic excellence and exhibit the following criteria: a minimum 3.5 GPA, outstanding leadership, and exemplary conduct.
