A Letter to Our Community

Dear NDP Friends and Donors,

I want to thank you all for a wonderful school year! It is a breath of fresh air to be able to reflect on a year beyond the pandemic. We were able to start looking ahead once again, and we made some wonderful changes and strides. God continues to bless us and shine His light upon our community.

This was my first year in the full-time president role, which allowed me to create many relationships that led to great philanthropic giving. We hit many goals and set records during both our Giving Day and Auction Fashion Show. I want to thank each person who gave this year, attended an event and/or volunteered their time. It is because of our community we have a school like no other in the country.

Here are a few of our accomplishments:

Our students helped raise more than $102,000 during our Mardi Gras Giving Day through the NDP Live! 8-hour live streamed broadcast

Twenty-three athletes signed letters of intent to compete at the collegiate level

Our NDP Girls Volleyball, Girls Lacrosse, and Girls Cheer Team all took home State Championship Titles NDP Players performed Cinderella and the Importance of Being Earnest in our brand-new Saint Catherine of Bologna Performing Arts Center

Two students were appointed to the United States Military Academy at West Point

We welcomed 260 Freshmen and 36 Transfer students from 60 different schools

We raised more than $340,000 at our Auction Fashion Show. A new record!

Named ‘Best Private High School’ in the Valley by Arizona Foothills Magazine

Our NDP Culinary Festival was named ‘Best Culinary Event’ in the Valley by Arizona Foothills Magazine

Here are a few examples of how we used the monies raised through the Saints Fund (now known as the NDP Fund):

Cafeteria upgrades, including adding additional lunch lines

Classrooms were updated in the 400, 500, and 700 buildings

Guidance moved to a new building with new offices and furniture

The Center of Mission and Ministry (COMM) moved to a new building with new offices and furniture

Two new conference rooms were built

A wrapping company did new window designs for the Saints Store and Security Office, as well as the Guidance Center

The Faculty Lounge was fully updated

Additional security enhancements were made A new school bus wrapped in NDP colors was purchased

We are blessed with an amazing community of astonishing students, involved and sincere families, dedicated faculty/staff, philanthropic donors, and generous community partners. I feel incredibly lucky to be part of such a beautiful experience. I am proud beyond measure of our students and love seeing how far they go beyond high school with help from the solid foundation set by their NDP experience.

Notre Dame Preparatory FY2022 Advisory School Board

We thank the parent members of the 2021-22 Advisory School Board for their time, talent, treasure and leadership during our Year of Hope as we navigated our way out of the difficult COVID years. The members listed below were instrumental in guiding the school in our continual pursuit of excellence in all aspects of Notre Dame Prep life from academics to improving communications and our facilities.

This dedicated group of parents spearheaded our Thanks for Giving Campaign and raised a record amount of funds for the traditional faculty and staff Christmas fund and gave every school employee their largest holiday gift in school history. A Reflection from Fr. Kurt Perera

“Hope” was a wonderful theme for the 2021-22 school year because we moved forward boldly and with great joy to overcome the negative effects of the pandemic.

Pressing forward in hope, we were able to host Kairos retreats again and this benefited everyone from students to faculty and staff. Many came back on a Kai-High feeling that, in the words of Mr. England, “Kairos is one of the best things at NDP!”

Pope Francis has said, “No matter where God has planted you, hope. Always hope. Young people should love, believe and follow their dreams, never despairing because Jesus is always with them.” I believe here at Notre Dame Prep we have lived that reminder of hope Pope Francis speaks about, recognizing Jesus is always with us through our:

Kairos, Faculty and Staff and All-School Retreats

One Mission service trip

Lunchtime Bible Study that was sponsored by Chick-Fil-A

15 NDP male students attending the St. Andrews Vocation Dinner for those discerning the priesthood (this was more than any other school in the Diocese)

In the spring of 2022, I was informed that Bishop Olmsted was reassigning me and that 2021-22 would be my last school year as the chaplain of Notre Dame Prep. The bishop appointed me as Director of Vocations and Formator of Seminarians for the Diocese of Phoenix where I hope to see many NDP Saints enter the seminary!

My good friend and brother priest, Fr. Clement Attah, will be the new NDP chaplain starting in the 2022-23 school year. He is an amazing, joyful and spiritual man, so I leave you in good hands.

Thank you to everyone in the NDP family for your love and support during my time here. You are all in my prayers and I ask that you pray for me as I embark on this new and exciting journey at Nazareth House Seminary.

possibly play college basketball somewhere. But as luck and time would have it, he fell in love with the ASU community and the great friends he made. He also met several entrepreneurs.

Although he did not have a perfect vision of what he wanted to do “when he grew up,” Sarandrea knew he wanted flexibility.

One day at the gym, Sarandrea saw a man playing basketball at 11 a.m. and he was intrigued. “I wanted to know what he did that allowed him the freedom to play basketball at the gym that late in the morning,” Sarandrea explained. “I wanted a career that afforded the flexibility to do that.”

So, he went over and asked the man what he did. The two talked about internet marketing and how it is done. Sarandrea asked if he could work for the guy for no pay. “That took some persuasion, but he finally let me shadow him and I learned so much.”

During this time, Sarandrea came to appreciate the cost of teaching someone, even if he/she does not take a paycheck. “That is when I learned the value of time and mentor-mentee relationships,” he said.

This year, he gave the most generous gift ever given to Notre Dame Prep by an alumni student. “I love NDP and all they did for me, and I think it is important to pay-it-forward,” he said.

“It is so obvious that it is important to help others,” he added. “It is insanely lucrative to assist the next generation.”

Sarandrea stated this advice for the current students at NDP:

1. Fail fast and know that perfection becomes the enemy of execution. So, if you have an idea, try it. Speed is more important than perfection and if you wait too long, your idea will become obsolete.

2. Over deliver on everything you do. That will help you gain confidence to charge more.

3. Always give back and help others.

4. Surround yourself with smart, motivated, and positive people.

As an alumnus, it is incredible and overwhelming to see how much Notre Dame Preparatory has grown in such a short amount of time. I still remember watching our football games at Scottsdale Community College, and our NDP Players performing on the cafeteria stage. Just 20 years later, our Saints have one of the nicest football stadiums in the state, and our drama productions are in a state-of-the-art theatre. You, our generous donors, are the reason for this. As a staunch supporter of Catholic education and the executive director of The Pitre Family Foundation, Dominic was instrumental in securing our lead donor for the building of the St. Catherine of Bologna Performing Arts Center, along with other major projects.

“We are so incredibly grateful to Dominic, his family and The Pitre Family Foundation for everything they have done for NDP,” said Notre Dame Prep President Jill Platt. “Their stewardship has made a monumental impact on our school, allowing us to enhance our programs and facilities.”

Dominic is the epitome of a servant leader who humbly helps however he can to provide for his family, community and Notre Dame Prep.

The Notre Dame Prep community is full of people who selflessly give of their time, talent and treasure to help move our school forward and create a place of pride for past, present and future Saints. Each year, we present the Patron Saint Award to a key member of our community, who has gone above and beyond to advance and support the mission of our school.

In May, we recognized Dominic Svorinic as the recipient of the 2022 Patron Saint Award. Dominic and his wife Mary Beth, sent all four of their daughters to Notre Dame Prep; Sarah, ‘08, Stephanie, ‘10, Ali, ‘13 and Victoria, ‘15 in hopes that they would grow in faith, receive an excellent education and develop the virtues of reverence, respect and responsibility.

Dominic instantly wove himself into the very fabric of NDP by supporting fundraisers, joining the (then) Booster Club,

“The passion he has for helping others is remarkable,” said family friend and fellow alumni parent Cathie Cuda. “Despite his calm demeanor, Dominic is a fierce competitor, who uses encouraging, uplifting words to bring out the best in those around him,” she added.

Dominic’s optimistic attitude and determination have helped him become the successful professional he is today. Through his strong faith, Dominic’s daily actions exemplify what it means to live your life for Christ.

Unfortunately, Dominic was unable to receive his award in person this year. We will present the award to him on stage at Notre Dame Prep’s Auction Fashion Show 2023. In the meantime, President Platt had this to say, “Congratulations, Dominic! You are a true blessing to our school, to your family and to your new little grandson, Luke Matthew!”

We thank the parent members of the 2021-22 Advisory School Board for their time, talent, treasure and leadership during our Year of Hope as we navigated our way out of the difficult COVID years. The members listed below were instrumental in guiding the school in our continual pursuit of excellence in all aspects of Notre Dame Prep life from academics to improving communications and our facilities.

This dedicated group of parents spearheaded our Thanks for Giving Campaign and raised a record amount of funds for the traditional faculty and staff Christmas fund and gave every school employee their largest holiday gift in school history We truly are blessed with the best faculty, staff and parents at Notre Dame Prep.
