Devex Invested: The future of development finance.

In October 2022, the NDPI Foundation and Devex successfully hosted the fourth annual Devex Invested event in London, UK. The event focused on the theme “The Future of Development Finance” and explored how the nonprofit sector can leverage development finance to align with evolving impact measurement practices. Distinguished attendees, including representatives from DFIs, finance experts, aid agencies, NGOs, and corporate leaders, engaged in discussions on overcoming sector challenges and shared insights from successful impact measurement projects. The event provided a platform to amplify key stakeholder voices amidst complex global economic challenges. It highlighted the threats to investments in critical areas such as global health and economic development, particularly in low-income countries.

The ongoing effects of the pandemic, coupled with increasing food insecurity, debt, and inflation, have raised doubts about public financial commitments. Additionally, there are persistent funding gaps across various domains such as sustainable development, pandemic preparedness, and humanitarian aid. While impact investors, development finance institutions, and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) trends are making notable contributions, concerns remain regarding transparency, impact evaluation, and measurement.

According to Aline Varre, Director of Strategy and Business Development at NDPI - “In a world grappling with the aftermath of COVID 19 and pressing development challenges, impact investing emerges as a robust sustainability strategy. Impact investors can be a lever for social change and foster inclusive growth by deploying capital with purpose and intention. This approach can forge a definitive pathway where economic progress aligns with sustainable development goals.”
