ABOUT US

NDINDA is an architectural firm based in Kigali and was founded by young, committed and passionate architects who thrives for creative designs and spaces that impacts, provides and comforts through architectural services. Name NDINDA is a Kinyarwanda word that means ‘protect me’. Protection was the basic need a man needed when he decided to live in a shelter. We base on history to position our practice on an architectural timeline. We believe it all starts from an idea!

Text description: To be built on a highway road joining Kigali and Bugesera International Airport. This project proposes single bedroom apartments associated with offices on the ground floor. There is also a luxury villa that can host families. The composition is made of a repeated module proportioned to the width of each apartment. It is repeated orderly to create a rhythm that protects elevations from boredom of scale. Use of local bricks perforated with Imigongo, traditional patterns, was a good way to exhibit Rwandan culture on a road that shall be used by almost all country’s guests.

This was a Mixed use facility which comprises of 2 adjacent blocks wih various programs and a courtyard. the first block oriented toward the road hosts public facilities while the second block extends towards the courtyard constitutes of appartments. Spacial composition and face design prioritised a balance between openness and privacy to facilitate a comfortable and efficient user experience.

Text description: Rwanda is a country of thousand hills, topography is an important aspect to pay attention to while designing. By combining slopes and hills, this proposal came up with a stepping hill of 18 apartments. The composition has two parts separated by a courtyard and joined by circulation bridges with nature on them. Efforts to orient each apartment on Kigali views has achieved the complexity desired to make the front elevation look as a man made hill.

Project name: Habitation Mixte

The project comprises 2 vertically superposed blocks situated on two different levels of the slope. The upper block consists of 2 villas of 4 bedrooms, a double height living room, and a roof terrace on each villa. the lower block consists of 3 single bedroom apartments with a very rich lifestyle. Each of the singles has an open plan concept with a private courtyard at the entrance. On the same block lies a two bedroom apartment that connects to a shared facility with a swimming pool and a small coffee shop for the users.

Mubiligi Plazza takes an opportunity of a newly developed residential site of Bisambu, and proposes a commercial facility in this neighborhood to provide different programs near the people. The composition is based on simple principles. On its ground floors, the plaza contains several shops,First floor proposes restaurants, hair salons, ice cream shops, coffee shops etc. The roof top which maximize the views contains an open sits bar. The rhythm and order created on elevations highlights simplicity and beautiful arrangement, which makes the structure itself attractive, not only the services.

This project is designed on a site of 1 hectare and programmed to have 10 luxury cottages oriented on the lake with all facilities. The main shape is a triangular section that touches ground to make the roof and landscape look integrated. All the walls shall be built with rammed earth construction. The restaurant is an open structure connected with a buffer zone and connects the whole project with the lake.

Status: Approved project Rwanda is facing a problem of public spaces in cities which are growing very fast. Some of the solutions are to transform existing roads into car free zones and welcome people to use them as public open spaces. This project transforms a road of about 2 Kilometers into a public space for people in Rubavu City.

Project Name: Pretty Village

Pretty Village proposes 5 luxurious villas located on a steep slope that gives an opportunity for each house to maximize the views. There is shared space in the middle that has a swimming pool, shared parking and dining rooms associated with the landscape. This project was designed with much attention to the construction techniques to balance luxury and economy. Each Villa is designed with a Raumplan concept that makes beautiful and creative interiors.

Status: Idea

Kimihurura is a hill opposite the central business district hill and separated by a wetland which is planned to be an artificial lake in the city. This idea proposes a hotel and offices in two towers joined by a horizontal base that contain all facilities on ground and first floors.

Project Name: M-Petrol Station

Status:Under construction

This was a remodeling of an existing petrol station. The idea was to transform the old canopy into a new modern structure and propose a commercial building which will work as station facility. The building’s footprint is curved following the movements of cars as a fluid motion.

Project’s Name: nyabugogo Warehouse

Client: KAMURU Trading Company

Year: 2021

Location: Nyabugogo - Kigali

Status: Built

This is a warehouse mainly for storing steel tubes and steel bars. It is associated with offices. It will also be a headquarters. Design idea is to highlight the strength and heaviness of steel and to reflect it in elevations using concrete. During the 20th century when concrete was introduced in the World of construction, Le Corbusier was one of the masters to use it, therefore he was taken as a reference.

Project Name:MIXED USE PROTOTYPE

Year: 2021

Location: Different Sites in Five Sectors in Kigali

Status: Approved Project

This is a proposed prototype of mixed use buildings that can be replicated around Nyarugenge district. The proposal hosts various activities including restaurants, shops, and apartments. The project had to be incorporate on a footprint of 35mx12m. This allowed the creation of a long narrow building which facilitates ventilation and lighting. Windows were Similarly made long and narrow to allow adequate sunlight while preventing overexposure in the interiors. This prototype was conceived with the prediction that it can be constructed in different phases depending on the available funds and program requirements.

The main idea of A Jeff House is borrowed from modern architecture where terraces are horizontally highlighted to emphasize on openness that gives an opportunity for users to enjoy views.

Project Name: Kassim residence

Location: Rebero-Kigali

Status: Under construction

The site is located up on the hill oriented on Kigali views. To explore this opportunity, the proposal is composed in two main wings. The right wing perpendicularly captures half of the views while the left wing is tilted on 45 degrees and makes interior spaces enjoy the other part of Kigali. Successfully this idea marges interior architectural promenades with the landscape.

Project Name: Pretty Village

Construction of House one -Pretty Nita- is ongoing. Moving from Design to construction is exciting and equally challenging. The design team conducts a timely follow up with the construction team to make sure that the project impemementation is a achieved with maximum efficiency, and the challenges that arises during construction are attended to without compromising the details of the design as well as preventing unplanned costs.
