Lauren Gunn: Editor-in-Chief It is with great honor and enthusiasm that we, the 2019-2020 Editors, present our final issue of The Gates! Being on this staff has not only given me an opportunity to explore various realms of academic journalism, but it has also been a launchpad to refine leadership skills and get to know members of the ND community from all grade levels. I have absolutely loved watching fellow students pursue their passions through writing over the past four years, and I extend my very best wishes to Meghan Gallary, next year's editor-in-chief, as well as all members of the 2020-2021 staff! Dedicating this last issue to the Class of 2020 -- my best friends -- is, in my mind, the perfect way to express my love for both this publication and these individuals. Best of luck to all in your future endeavors! Sincerely,
Mary-Katharine Pontarelli: Senior Editor To the best people,
It’s crazy to think that I am even writing this note to all of you. I don’t think any of us could have ever imagined that everything would end like this. Whether it has been four years, seven years, or any number in between, ND has been our home and the place that holds some of our best memories. I know that it is so hard to not think about all the time that we are losing at ND, but I’ve been trying to think of all the things that we did have. We won Spirit Day, had a prom, had four Fall Flings and Winter Balls, countless Fiesta Fridays, and celebrated 100 days. We had so much time with each other, even though now it doesn’t seem like enough, and we made so many unforgettable memories. You are all so amazing, and I can’t wait for the time I can see you all again <3 love,
Eva Kraus: Art and Design Editor Dear Seniors and Fellow Gates Readers,
It is my honor to bring you this very special edition of The Gates. I hope that this short snapshot is one last thing that can help you to remember the Class of 2020. I’m trying not to focus on what has been lost, but what we have experienced. We are 2020 strong. I’ve had a seven-year adventure with you all and I am forever grateful. It has been my absolute joy working on the paper this year and through this experience I have discovered a love for journalism. It has been a privilege to capture the fun, funky, and whatever other adjectives you want to insert that is so uniquely Notre Dame. I miss you all and I can’t wait until we can all be reunited on campus again!
Meghan O’Meara: Sports Editor
Until then…
To My Dearest Red Class, Whether it was for seven, four, or some odd amount of years, I will always cherish my time as your classmate. As time passes, I know I will remember the big moments like winning Spirit Day, but I hope I remember the little ones just as vividly. The small conversations as I pass each of you in the hall, the excitement of Advent Angels, laughing till I can’t breathe at a joke, cramming for tests in the lounge, are the moments I will miss for the rest of my life. I will always be grateful that I had the best 98 friends anyone could have ever hoped for. I cannot wait to see what each of you accomplish in the future, and I will always be cheering you on! Love,
