Dear Friends,
We are delighted to welcome you to the Academy of Notre Dame de Namur’s Middle School musical production of Matilda, JR., the story of Matilda Wormwood, an inquisitive and intellectual child with extraordinary powers. Matilda has a passion for reading, learning, and creating her own stories. In the end, she asserts herself, stands up to bullies, writes her own narrative, and is a little naughty, too!

The amount of time, talent, and dedication to this production is immeasurable. It all began the year before with acquiring the rights to the production, then planning meetings, deciding on casting, setting the rehearsal schedule, rehearsing, blocking, costuming, designing costumes, sound, lights, and set, and even more rehearsals. Still so much happens behind the scenes, with programs, headshots, gallery board, and marketing the production. In the process, Middle School students have learned that hard work and teamwork transform a script into a production, and like Matilda, they are empowered to change and write their own stories.
We are grateful to our faculty for making Matilda, JR. a reality, creating a top-notch musical for our Middle School students. A special thank you to Mrs. Pam Devenney and Mrs. Lindsay Miller for their love of theater, remarkable patience, commitment, and vision. They inspire and encourage our students and pass their passion along to the next generation.
Thank you for supporting the arts at Notre Dame. Enjoy the singing, dancing, and cleverness - with just a touch of rebellion!

Matilda, JR. SYNOPSIS
Rebellion is nigh in Matilda, JR., a gleefully witty ode to the anarchy of childhood and the power of imagination! This story of a girl who dreams of a better life and the children she inspires will have audiences rooting for the “revolting children” who are out to teach the grown-ups a lesson.
Matilda has astonishing wit, intelligence... and special powers! She’s unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey. Matilda’s school life isn’t completely smooth sailing, however – the school’s mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don’t abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils’ saving grace!
Packed with high-energy dance numbers and catchy songs, Matilda, JR. is a joyous girl power romp. Children and adults alike will be thrilled and delighted by the story of the special little girl with an extraordinary imagination.
